Statistical facts?  OK...what percentage of the time, when a white person is near a black person, is the white guy assaulted in some way (beaten, mugged...whatever)?  Just because blacks are convicted of crimes at higher rates does not mean that you're likely to be assaulted in some way, by blacks, if you're white.  It's not as if 25% of white people who run across a black person get their asses kicked!  So, yes, seeing black people and thinking "I'm about to be a statistic" is racist.  Perhaps it's not KKK, burn-a-cross-in-your-yard racist, but it's still racist.  But I'm not as bothered by his inner thoughts...people of all colors have misconceptions about others, and it's a problem in this country.  But to actually say that?  A state Representative?  Come on!
