Residents of Corral, Latigo and Escondido canyons were allowed to drive into their fire-ravaged neighborhoods Sunday night. Checkpoints ensured that only residents -- and not looters -- drove up the twisting canyon roads.

As many as 14,000 residents were ordered to evacuate Saturday.

Something doesn't jive here.

In the beta news clip, which was from Saturday, didn't she say the fireman told her to close her garage and go back inside?

So did they not evacuate?

Unless beta checked the house out afterwards?

Fernando was the smart one and was out of the country altogether.

I hope they catch the little cock suckers who set it originally. Accident or not, even the stupidest person in the world would know not to screw around with fire in that area.

Any news how bad the damage is around the house?  Can you imagine looking out on a land charred by fire?  It's going to take years for that to grow back and what is going to hold the land on the hillside when it rains?  How long is it going to take to wash way the evidence and smell of that?  And everytime the wind kicks up, they are going to wonder if a wall of fire is blowing their way.  Saved the house but this is going to take a long time to recover from.  This was far more than a little piece of the roof on fire wasn't it?

From some of the interviews I saw, the fire started in the middle of the night and caught a lot of homeowners by surprise.

Also, some homeowners do stay and try to defend their property.

This fire seemed to move very quickly and probably surprised most.

The only good news that will come out of this,
If you want to look at it as good news,
is that There wont be another fire then now for a while, considering that now all the bush is burnt off,
It should be fine for the next few years...

Glad to see axls putting his life on the line for his money  beer

Only kiddin, shows how much of a brave man this guy is,

Well done Axl , and Beta, I love your accent,

At that point it wasn't safe to leave. Sounded like the property was surounded.

would be better if there wasn't a fire.

Damn! That's not cool!

it's an inferno. can't be cool But strangely you wouldn't feel the heat on the spot. It's that scary.

how come ? do you mean the heat is so hot that you don't feel the burn ? i'm lost, i'm too frenglish on this one, i need baby talk please??? Embarrassed

I mean in an emergency like this one, people tend to forget the senses.
I heard just 3 teachers managed to carry a grand piano out of a fire.

For all you geographically challenged, Brazil is a bit south-east of where the fires happened.  Wink

You shouldn't be so flippant. When fires learn how to jump over oceans that guy could be in serious trouble.  Tongue Have fun in Brazil Fernando.

Doesn't have to jump.  Head south and make a left.  Canal crossing and that's easy.
