I'm planning on seeing them tomorrow at the Avalon, I don't know if I should risk taking a camera?
My new favorite song is the haunting Seven Stories Under, doesn't it make you feel hot and cold at the same time

I've only seen Dulli live w/ The Afghan Whigs, and he's amazing onstage. Can't say I've seen Lanegan, though. Hopefully, that will change before too long. Enjoy the show!

Don't know what the camera policy is at the venue, but I'm sure the show will be great.
Saw them in London in February and plan to catch them again somewhere later this month when they return to Europe.

I saw Cornell there last year. My friend got her camera in there, all they ask you to do is to remove everything from your pockets. Just keep your camera in your hands and away from their prying eyes. Also, there are no metal detectors at the Avalon, so you have a better shot at getting your camera in.
Jarmo, there are no opening bands right? If I can scrape together 40 dollars, I'm going tomorrow.

I think there is. Don't remember their name though.
Tickets are $24 + fees.

You better believe it, my friend. When someone wants something really bad, they find a way to get it.
I'm gonna be on my way soon, to get a good spot.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Chief will be joining me at this show, it's gonna be good fun!

Ahhhh, what a fantastic show last night!
But first, I have to mention the weird encounter I had with Billy Bob Thornton. I was waiting outside the venue for Chief, and this white Scion pulls up. I realize that the drive the driver is talking to me, so I go up to see what he has to say. I realize it's old Billy Bob. He asked me if there were any tickets available. I said that there probably were, but I wasn't 100% sure. He said that he didn't want to pay $8 for parking, thanked me and drove off.
Cheap bastard!
Anyway, there was this lame opening band. The guitarist must have been confused, because he also had a drum next to him that he would occasionally pound on, and a tambourine. His idea of guitar playing was making those feedback sounds whenever he pleased. The last 2-3 songs were OK though.
The Gutter Twins hit the stage at around 10:10 and ended the show at around 11:30. There was no encore, unfortunately. But they played one killer show!
They opened with Idle Hands, a great song! Mark just stood by his mic stand the whole night, but he was so cool even by just standing there! Greg often disappeared in a cloud of his own cigarette smoke. Greg was kind of like the host of the party, cracking jokes and talking to the crowd.
There were a few guys from around the Los Angeles area, as we found out during band introductions. The bass player being one of them, the crowd really gave him a good welcome. And the crowd was really fantastic, singing along to some of the songs and really rocking out!
My favorite song was definitely God's Children.
Each to Each was also a highlight. For the love of me though, I can't remember which song had Greg on the keyboard! That was also one of my favorites. They did a little intro of "When The Levee Breaks" before going into it.
The last song was Front Street. Everyone help up five fingers during the "five minutes" bit.
It was awesome witnessing this collaboration.

Haha!
I believe that's a running joke they do every night.
In London, Greg said the bass player, Scott Ford, was "from London, England"......
Sounds like a cool show!

Oh really? Because he said Scott was from West Hollywood, the "gay" part of town! And he mentioned that someone else was from Echo Park, a really ghetto part of town! Sounds like those guys enjoy being around each other!
I hope this isn't a one time thing!

Me too!
?I think we?ll both make our own records after this,? Dulli says. ?But the Gutter Twins is not a one-off project. As long as we?re friends and enjoy writing together, then we?ll be Poncho and Lefty. Neither one of us has been a star or a superstar, but we?ve both quietly done our things for 20 years.? He smiles. ?And now we have come to proclaim our eminence.?

I had a great time! I agree about the opening band, they were somewhat lackluster. This gave me plenty of time to stare at the ceiling and admire all the art deco in the venue. By the time the band came on, the place was packed. I could sworn they opened with Stations followed by God's Children. The heavy drumming bits of God's Children is amazing live! Idle Hands was a pump your fist in the air rocker and Seven Stories was cool and dark. When Dulli would sing in his smooth voice, Lanegan would bob his head to the music and then when it was his turn, he would bellow in his deep gravelly voice. I have to say that Misery Flowers sounds much better live, it was the highlight of the night for me. Lanegan also did a Twilight Singers song, something like 'I've been thinking about you baby, come stay with me', I dont know the song it but it sounded good. Thanks Jarmo and bazgnr for sending me to the Gutter

It's a cover of Massive Attack's "
Live With Me
".
The Twilight Singers did it
live
on their last tour with Mark singing it and they also recorded a version of it for the "A Stitch In Time" EP. Highly recommended......

I was at the Avalon show, and it was amazing. Me and my friends were in the front row in front of Lanegan. The Stations was fucking amazing, and so was their cover of St. James Infirmary.
