I was surprised to see that my Best Buy opened up before 10am (I arrived at 9:35, fearful that there would be a huge line outside the doors). I walked in, grabbed an LP from the display that was in the process of being filled, and picked up my pre-ordered CD.

I got to the Best Buy in King of Prussia, PA at around 8:55 AM, expecting to a scene at best buy which would at least include GNR music being played.  Another best buy in the area had a giant Hulk display in the windows / above the doors when that movie came out on DVD, so i just assumed there would be something similar in nature.  I got there and there was barely anything.  The display was still being put up when i walked in at 9:02! ( store opens at 9 ).  It was definitely best buy employees putting the display together, and it sounds like a similar display from what other people have said ( 4 sided display with vinyl on the top and CDs below that.  I kept thinking " wait, you're still putting this thing up?? "   I wanted to take a picture next to the display and i had to wait like 15 minutes while they half-assed it.  Then after i bought my copies, i walked outside and realized that on the way in I had walked right past a tiny little "wet floor" looking sign that on one side had something about giving money to a child's charity and on the other side had a glossed over, foggy looking poster on it that said the new GNR album was here and it was the most anticipated album ever.  Really?  Thats all you could do best buy?  The fact that i walked right past it on the way in, while looking for signs of promotion, shows how lame it was.   Seems like each best buy was different.  Some good, some bad.

Sounds like 'Get in the Ring 2' may have a bit about BestBuy (and Hu Jintau).  rant

Can't help but imagine Best Buy would have anticipated the band would be out there doing more promotion too.

That sort of stuff is normally ironed out in the exclusivity deal and unless they got Ghi-Dem real cheap, I can't beleive they'd have taken it on without assurances the band/Axl would be pushing the hell out of it in the media.

^ I don't understand why it's even an issue with some people. I noticed it. It does not take anything away from the song.

i don't believe it's intentional. no matter what anyone says. i work with ProTools and edit my own recordings. things like that aren't intentional. they happen... but you don't record a track saying "at this word i want this blip"... it would be in other songs too... or other forms of blips... it's there, i can't change it.

I think that's a kick ass effect on Axl's voice at 1:19.  I think some people are reading WAY too much into some things.  Does that really ruin the song for you?

that's the thing... i don't believe it's an effect. if it was it would be in the first verse too.

it's a great song. it's not ruined. just feels that it's slopp final touches. kinda like the errors in the booklet. lol.

It certainly sounds a lot like a pro-tools screw up. I've made a fair few similar mistakes myself in the process of cutting/pasting and auto-tuning.  Grin

But mistakes like that are so easy to fix.  It just can't imagine it being unintentional.  It just doesn't make sense, it takes 30 seconds of work to fix something like that.  And for the record, though that effect could have been made by an extreme auto-tune change, I haven't heard a single artifact that actually sounds like the artifacts you get when auto-tuning a vocal track.
