Hey guys.  New here and driving from the States for this show.  I have never been to Winnipeg before and am looking for some stuff to do.  Will probably only stay there two days maximum.  I'm a history nerd so right now I've got the legislative building and the mint on the agenda.  I looked in a couple tourism books and it looks like Winnipeg kinda shuts down for the winter so I desperately need some suggestions.

hey MADMAN, if your into history go to the forks as well... and then maybe this little restaurant close to the forks called "times change". they have good mexican food, and usually have a good band playing. or you can also go to the kings head pub for some good beer

Thanks for the suggestion...the Forks looks pretty badass so I'll check that out.  Any meet up planned before the show?  Name the place and I'll be there.

I've actually got lower bowl seats, 3 sections back on stage left.  Hope you all enjoy the madness on the floor.

I will be on the floor, ballin' out of control.  This will definitely be the best concert Winnipeg has seen since 2006 (when they last came).

That is, if the concert happens.  I'm checking ticket availability, and it seems there are a ton of tickets left.  You can seem to get 8 tickets in any section I've looked in.  Has anyone heard how ticket sales are going here?  I haven't heard a single thing about this concert.

For Madman, Winnipeg is more akin to a large town than it is a city.  I've felt that way since we lost the Jets.  With temperatures dropping down to -50 degrees celcius with the windchill in January, all of your activities should be indoors.  The Forks is most enjoyable in the summer, so if you ever plan on coming back I would do it then.
I also suggest the Planetarium.  Our zoo is below average quality, but in winter I wouldn't even bother.  If you want to do any shopping, the best mall we have to offer is Polo Park (not too impressive, but it works).

Temp thanks for the info.  I hear Winnipeg is called Winterpeg.  I love cold weather and the last time I traveled to Canada in the dead of winter was awesome.  Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

Canada freakin' rules.  If I could live life over again I woulda moved up there to go to school or something...just for a short time, cause I love Iowa (my home state).

For anyone interested, the Sun is running a contest to win a pair of tix:

http://www.winnipegsun.com/contests/2009/12/18/12206326.html

There's actually a form being printed off in the Sun between Dec 22 and the contest deadline that you have to fill out... guess they haven't got on the online contest bandwagon just yet.

ya know, after hearing those Japan bootlegs I feel a bit spoiled.  It is unreasonable to expect a 3+ hour show but if I can just hear Prostitute and There Was a Time I don't give a shit what else they play.  Regardless I have a feeling it is going to kick major ass.
