I can't vote just yet because I haven't seen the new lineup up close and personal.  I love what Fortus does in a live setting and DJ seems to have what it takes.  Bumblefoot is a class act all the way around, plus he can play.  So he'd probably get my vote at this point, but I'll reserve judgement until I get to see DJ live.

Thank you sir.  I just hope I get to see the band sometime soon so I can cast my vote once and for all.  US, late summer?  Can't get here soon enough.

So, were is the other poll gone?  hihi

Did it really get taken down cos the minority weren't happy with the results?
I don't think i will vote this time around, it might not suit everybody and then what... We vote again?

Reminds me of referendums in Ireland.

Does make sense to keep a thread with the name of four gone guitarrists as "Favorite guitar player" of Guns N' Roses?

I think this thread is perfect. If we should vote our favorite guitar player of Guns N' Roses, then the names that should be there are the names of the people that ACTUALLY are in the band

i think if anything, 2 threads would be better. One for "favourite GNR guitar player" and one for "Favourite GNR guitar player of all time".
I think the person that was winning in the other poll,  just didnt sit too well with some people.

A guy who tried to destroy GN'R . It's understandable not to like him.

If it were up to him, we couldn't have "Chinese Democracy", the excellent 2006/2007 tour, this awesome 2009/2010/I-hope-2011 tour, etc.

Were do you get that idea from?  Do you have any solid evidence to support such a statement?

Remember that he helped to make GNR what they are.

To be honest, this is a stupid arguement though.  it could go on for pages an pages.  I made my point and im leaving now.

It could go on for pages, yes.

You made your point, please let me do mines (well...i'll try because I can't manage english that well).

It's simple, he tried to hinder Guns N' Roses' work all these years. Yes, he helped to make GN'R what they are but he tried to destroy it as well.

He filed several suits against Axl  and he tried to destroy the musical legacy of the band. How? Trying to deny Axl's rights on Guns N' Roses material with a mission: sell Guns N' Roses music, to prostitute Guns N' Roses' legacy. As a proof that I know what I'm talking about, Slash claimed that Axl prevented the sell of Guns N' Roses' music to movies like "Just Married", "We were Soldiers", "Death to Smoochy", "Old School", etc.

He smashed Axl blaming on him of "breach of written contract", "breach of fiduciary duty", "unfair competition", "unjust enrichment" and all kind of shit. WHAT A NICE GUY, huh? If you file suits against the singer of the group several times, logic dictates that the group will be affected for all this kind of things...

Slash always was moved by the money, Axl was always moved by art and keep Guns N' Roses alive.

However, this is not a topic about these kind of issues.

LUCKILY, THE REALITY SAYS THAT GUNS N' ROSES HAVE THREE AMAZING GUITARRISTS: THAL, FORTUS AND ASHBA. The name of "that guy" is not there peace

I think all three are awesome guitar players and cool guys each bringing a different style and energy.
But for me its DJ Ashba all the way...I love is guitar style and techniques.
In saying that I own a number of Bumblefoot Albums and love them, I love the raw energy that Richard has on stage...but Dj's style with Guns, his work with Sixx AM and Beautiful Creatures puts him in a league of his own for me.
DJ Ashba is my Number 1 Axeman

Good point about DJ.  While part of me would like to vote for him because I really think he has what it takes to be THE lead guitar player in GNR, it is hard to tell without hearing him record anything with the band.  At least we have studio stuff from Ron and Richard to compare.  But all 3 seem to be fantastic in a live setting, that I can't deny.

This is really hard for me as I really Love 4tus too, but I chose Ron.

My favourite in 2006/2007 was Robin, but since then Ron has really stepped up and I consider him to be the Lead Guitarist and star of the group. I love the way he seems too good to be true, he's an amazing guitarist and he's cool to the fans.

No offence, but have you been living under a rock for the last 5 years?.  Roll Eyes

Ron is an awesome player, and can play virtually anything you ask him to. He can improvise on the spot, and also play solos note for note, what's not to get hyped about?.

As everyone knows, my favourite GN'R guitarist ever is Robin Finck but regarding the current line-up I would easily choose Ron.  yes

Ron. I'm not a huge fan of DJ (I missed Robin when some solos comes, honestly) and Richard is
awesome and under rated in Guns but his role in the band is less important (musically speaking, not live).

Ron is just one of the greatest guitar hero of our times because he combines every aspect of the job
and he deserves a bigger influence in the band.

All of the current three are amazing players. But I'll pick Fortus cos i love his James Bond theme guitar solo. Too cool.

Of the classic Guns guitarists I'll go Gilby. Ok so Izzy wrote or co wrote many classic songs and Slash played all the solos. Gilby gets shit cos he didn't get to write and play on an original studio album. But anyone who ever bought a solo Gilby album or saw him live with Guns knows that Gilby is pure rock n roll cool.

Really late to the discussion (5 personnel moves late). I'm happy Slash is back, both playing songs he helped create, and playing Chinese Democracy tracks. Ron, DJ, and Tommy deserve a lot of credit though. Ron in particular gives one of my favorite solo-ish performances with 'Objectify' on Appetite for Democracy. And DJ takes a lot of shit, but he is crazy talented.

Slash should have been everyone's pick.

Even while the CD era was still a thing.

Not necessarily. If someone just got into the band during the CD era, those people do exist, they wouldn't have the connection to Slash. I never voted on this until today. I picked Fortus, since he stayed put and DJ and Ron left. I enjoyed their time in the band though. Very fan friendly, which was great to see.

Can we kick this around a bit?  Because this subject fascinates me.

The "CD era" started on 01.01.2001.  Yet there was no album until 11.23.2008.

What was the genesis of this fandom that was developed in that time?  Did you download leaks?  Concert bootlegs from that era?

How did you fill those 7 long ass years?

Did you seriously not have any of the classic GNR stuff to even get you started?

Well I don't fall into that category, so I can't say for sure. But there are plenty that claim they became aware and intrigued by the CD saga. You can't deny that it was a saga, and somewhat of a soap opera. There were many twists and turns along the way to hold people's attention. You had live shows, the VMA's, new songs being performed, new takes on old classics, new interesting band members, even more new band members, countless rumors. I'm sure you're aware of all the minutiae. Hell, a large number of us stuck around the entire time despite only getting one album in all those years. The soap opera element and potential for new music was enough to keep the fanbase alive. If you weren't a fan when Slash was in the band and you more know him for slagging Axl, or for his autobiography, you're not likely to be a huge fan of his. Even if he was a key contributor to songs you've listened to thousands of times played by other guys. You're going to gravitate towards what you know. It's why I prefer Guns versions of KOHD, LALD, Dead Flowers, maybe even Sympathy for the Devil over the originals. I know that won't be a popular take on SFTD, and I know it played a part in the breakup of the band, but I personally love that version. That's another discussion though.

There are no rules for such a subjective matter. Pick whoever you like. I don't have to give you a reason why I prefer someone over the other, you just like one better than the other.
