Simply can't get much better than this!!!

« on: June 18, 2014, 11:23:01 PM »

In September of 2013 my mother was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer.  On that certain Saturday morning, my mom phoned me to say that her shoulder had been hurting and that it had been keeping her up for the past few nights.  She was describing her pain to me and had mentioned that it was hurting from her shoulder down her right arm.  With that said I immediately panicked thinking she was possibly having a heart attack and immediately called 911.  Once that was ruled out she was next sent to have her shoulder x-ray'd.  When they returned with her results they began to show us the Arthritis in her shoulder, and then moved farther down the photo to show us a picture of a large mass that was growing near or on her lung.  My heart sunk, as did hers.  From that very moment we moved so fast that we had not a moment to even think.  Everyday was an appt. of some kind.  In the beginning many tests to determine her strength, to find out if she would be able to make it through the plan of treatment the team of doctors were putting together for her.  Mind you she is 71.  One day on the way home from an appt.  I happened to glance down and saw a shiney penney face up.  I reached down and picked it up.  I at that point deemed it "Mr Lucky Penney".  When I arrived home I put scotch tape around it to ensure it would not ever be spent and I placed it in my wallet for good luck obviously.  Her treatment plan included 30 radiation treatments in which after the first week they encorporated 12- 8 hour sessions of chemotherapy x2.  She was so very sick, caught Pneumonia (<sp?) and it was the most painful thing to see happen to my mom.  Surgery was to be next on the plan.  Her tumor responded very well to the treatment and significantly shrank in size.  Unfortunately a scan was showing lymphnodes could possibly be infected and if they were there wouldn't be that surgery.  We were sent to two different specialist, and it was at this point I was pretty convinced I could loose my my mom to this horrible "demon".  While we were at each of these appts. I would get out my pretty penny and pray and hold it so tight.  In the end the results came back negative.  Now we could make it to surgery.  My mom had one third of her right lung removed, and sections removed from her first second and third rib.  The mass was growing on and crushing her second rib, and that is why they also removed part of her 1st and 3rd rib.  Once thru surgery her treatment plan included 4 more chemotherapy sessions to make good and damn sure.  Yes!!  My mom is now Cancer free, she made it!!!  At this point we are trying to find our place in the world again and working on getting her healthy again.  She lost 85 lbs and so is a little skinny gal with no hair, but she is my mom and I love her so very much.  I appreciate you guys letting me share my experience with you even if you didn't ask, it really helps me to vent, and many thanks to Mr. Lucky Penny for all your help in healing!!

Thank you very much for your thoughts!   I haven't posted here in so long and  then I all of a sudden lay down all that.  I really did just want to share my experience.  It is crazy how one day your living life and the next you are fighting to live that life again!   It was a blessing to have luck on our side  and most important the good Lords healing hand.

Thanks for sharing, msaxl43.  Must have been so difficult to go through.  It's not easy seeing our parents or any loved one having a major illness like cancer.  I'm happy to hear she is doing better and is cancer free.  Best wishes to you and your mom!
