hey guys...i'm looking for some help starting on the guitar...i just picked up an electric, and i've been messing around with it...i've played the piano for a decade now, so i have a good musical background, and i've found that guitar hasn't been as difficult as i'd thought (yet)

anyone have any suggestions where i can find some good tutorial stuff online or anything like that??...i'd be open to anything...thanks guys

That's a good idea... I'll try to gather stuff from here, and from my personal links. Additions will follow.

I'll get to this on sunday, if that's okay with people, when I have more time and a decent connection...

Okay, so here are some sites that I've found very helpful on the way:

Teaching the basics (and then some):

http://www.cyberfret.com/

Guitar Pro 4: the best tool to learn new songs (and to jam along, if you  have a good MIDI card)

http://www.guitar-pro.com/

PowerTabs editor: Another great tool for learning new songs

http://www.power-tab.net/

A place to find lots of Guitar Pro tabs:

http://www.mysongbook.com/

A place for your Power Tabs needs:

http://www.powertabs.net/

A really good place to find GN'R power tabs from:

http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/tablatures/UltimateSLASH.htm

You're welcome, but I can't take credit for them, since - although some of them were common knowledge - some links were introduced here by The Other Member, and Wag My Dog.

So thank you TOM, and Wags

A good place for general tabs (not powertabs) is:

http://www.e-tabs.org/news.php

It beats all others if you ask me, but I may be alone in that view.

Slash is saucy.

« Reply #12 on: September 07, 2003, 01:48:53 AM »

A scale is a series of notes in sets of 8 that starts and ends on the tonic, which determines the key, and thereby the accidentals and notes in between the tonics (first notes of the scale).

A chord is a few notes from a scale. Usually, the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes in the scale. Most solos are based around a scale. They are also useful for knowing the fretboard inside and out, so you dont have to think where your fingers are going next.

Start with a C major scale.

The hardest scales involve many accidentals (sharps/flats)

Sash uses Pentatonic (blues) scales.

Actually a standard pentatonic (rather than a blues pentatonic) is really easy.

Try....

E  -----------------------0-3
B -------------------0-3----
G --------------0-2---------
D ----------0-2------------
A -----0-2-------------------
E 0-3------------------------

its been mentioned before but i like the powertabs site.
http://www.powertabs.net

you need to download a program to use the files but the program makes them really easy to read and even easier when you print them off.

it plays them too!

i've used that since i started.

mmm... i remember you (Skid Row) is finally there
