08.31.05 ? Soul Asylum recruit new bass player

After the unfortunate passing of Soul Asylum bassist Karl Mueller it seemed that the band may call it quits but not Soul Asylum! No way! They've recruited former Replacements member Tommy Stinson. A new album should be out possibly in 2005.?

Thanks to Holtz, Todd

Edit: He's just playing two shows with them and is still in GN'R.

Wow... Didn't see that one coming. Too bad they don't have more info on what kind of a deal we're talking about here. If it 's a session type of thing, or if he'll be touring also.

My god, please be a huge mistake. This doesn't sound promising if true.

Souls Asylum and The Mat's are from the same scene, it makes sense for all involved.

With GNR inactive, Tommy shouldn't be blamed for wanting to work/perform.

No, you are right, but this would indicate a substantial period of activity away from GnR. Perhaps indefinately.

Even longer than the damn 3 years of silence since the tour? Good for him...probably just a studio player anyways.

With GNR working on 3 years of inactivity and no end to that in sight, it doesn't seem as though
"a substantial period of activity away from GnR" is even an issue at this point.

Lets hope he joins that band on permanent forever, ?as he was definetly a weak link in the nu gnr. ? if you listen to any previous
gnr record you would realise that there was a sense of solid and heaviness brought about by the bass guitar that was very
important for their sound. ?If you listened to his studio version of Oh my God or any of the live mp3's you would know what i mean,
he is more geared as a lead bassist than as a roots low give me some thud. ?too meandering i guess is to say.
Lets keep our fingers crossed! ? ?Go Asylum!

Wow I disagree with that. Live Tommy sounds so much better. Course, Duff probably pounded a fifth of jack every night before playing, so I give him some leeway, but still...

I just hope it's temporary, because if "General" Tommy Stinson does leave GN'R, well...that doesn't sound good.

Considering Tommy must have recorded all his GNR parts years ago does it really matter where he goes?

Yes and No! Recording the album isnt a problem as they state that it will be out in 2005 and we know that this year is out in the GNR world. The only problem is if he decides to tour the album in 2006!

They can just grab a touring bassist - c'mon, who really cares who's in the band, where here for Axl - providing he's on stage who else is there doesn't concern me

Considering RIR5 is in about 8/9 month (may or june 2006), It doesn't sound good for me...
But Tommy is right, if he is pissed off it's absolutely normal. It's a miracle the band hasn't exploded yet.

Nothing can explode that doesn't exist. It seems to me there won't be a tour in the next few months, although the 'music is ready' so Axl could release the damned album.
