Since Korn can't come and graspop couldn't arrange another band in the same league as them, they arranged for GnR to do a full set: 2,5 hours. So this could be a great gig indeed.

Yeah, let's hope they get permission to broadcast the show. I can't record it 'cause I'll fuckin' BE there.
See ya tomorrow in Dessel!

Yeah, just readed on the site:

21-6-2006 GUNS N? ROSES to play a two-and-a-half-hour set at Graspop!

Last week, when Graspop was informed that KORN would be cancelling their European tour, the search for a worthy replacement was underway within hours. Unfortunately it?s next to impossible to find a band of the same calibre as Korn on such short notice. Graspop negotiated with TOOL, DEFTONES, LIFE OF AGONY and MACHINE HEAD, but none of these bands were able to confirm their visit to GMM2006. As a result, GUNS N? ROSES will take the stage a bit sooner and play a longer set! Other bands like MY DYING BRIDE and ALICE IN CHAINS will also play a slightly longer set.

shitty :'(

oh well we are bound to get a boot of some kinda anyway....2 1/2 hours :o hope fully they fill that 1/2 hr with songs not talking and longer solos....maybe all 7 "new" tracks  that would be sweet, or Don't cry or Civil War...that would be cool too : ok:

Maybe they'll actually play TWAT for a change.  ::)

I really dont understand why they dont play this song. It's a great song, and yeah it might be hard to play live, but judging from the Hammerstein show, they can pull it off. Axl please play this fuckin song more.

I wouldn't hate in either case but the latter with the premiere of ryadh 06 version would be super sweet.

its better to leave flash ON.but there is no difference, unless you are in first rows.

Unless you have some kind of strobe light attached to your camera then the flash wont reach the stage.

Thats really shitty GNR wont let them broadcast it. Other than Tool at RAR every other band has no problem with it.

I love GNR and I think Axl has been great on thi9s tour so far but I dont agree with this decision at all. Sometimes I wish he would get his head out of his ass and actually do something cool for the fans.

I got really excited when I saw on Blabbermouth that they would be broadcasting GNR, then I read how the band "dont want to be filmed", thats just stupid IMO.

The announcer said something like: we need some papers to raise the stage, gnr thinks it's to much leaning to the left or something :p

My bet is that the show's gone halfway through by now.

I am just gonna say I am glad I flew to New York and saw two shows.

I think with Guns...you are safer and guaranteed a no glitch concert if you attend the first week of shows.

It's surreal.  In 2002, Guns pulled off European tour with no glitches.  Then we all know what happened that night in Philly.

Now it's kinda reversed.  They did sucessful shows in NYC and it seems that Europe now has a lot of glitches....weather....lateness....sound problems.

If it's raining really bad....is it safe still to sing with a cordless microphone? :nervous:

Would the band reschedule a Belgian date if this is true? I dunno what the practice is for a rained out gig.

Why is this everyones response to anything that goes wrong?? This band isn't perfect and the tour can't be 100% perfect. If the show gets rained out, life will go on. The band will play a make up date sometime and things will be ok.

This isn't going to teach Axl anything. He will continue to go on stage anytime he feels like just like he always has for the entire existance of this band as a headliner.

he really should fucking show up on time though even though it does build the crowd up and hype them up more shit can happen and fucking ruin a show just like today. 45min is late enough but what was he like an 1hr 25min late today thats just fucked up does he want to start a riot and have ppl get killed.

If the show was stopped because of rain, it really sucks that people are gonna be blaming Axl.   :'(  It's not like he could stop the rain from falling.

Also....does any one have any idea what three songs they were??? ?;)

This isn't going to go over well here..... but I'll say it anyway. I believe in many ways Axl is just an Idiot who never learns his lesson. He's done well showing up. So props for that. However....... DUDE... get up an hour earlier in the morning. Then you'll have no excuse to be late. Why is it that certain people can't master a fucking clock?

Why exactly? I saw Oasis this year under _a lot_ of rain, I don't think this is excuse for cancelling a show. And doing it after playing 3 songs is not a smart move.

Oasis aren't exactly a band that move around a lot.

GN'R run around the stage a lot.  I guess it being slippery might be pretty dangerous to their health?

I think its pretty strange. I had a friend texting me before the show. The last word I had was hours ago saying it was raining. I've tried phoning him and texting him but his phone is now switched off.

I find it awfully strange that NO ONE has any information about it. Its a massive festival in Belgium, a major European country. Do we not have any Belgian forum members at the gig or who have friends at the gig?

Perhaps Buckethead came down in his spaceship and abducted them all?

I'm back from another GREAT show, AXL's voice was amazing, the time off must have done him good!!!

I was front row before and during the show
and before it started i heard the security guy saying that axl arrived in Brussels with a plane and should arrive around 22.45, then the security guy said that Axl wanted to eat and go to a hairdresser before the show  :hihi:

Crowd was good! some dudes were screaming for slash but it was cool, only like 3 people or so!

Security was very focussed on camera's, NO PHOTO's!
I saw the security head into the crow and take a camcorder from someone!

no surprises in setlist

what i remember:

Welcome to the jungle
It's so easy
Mr Brownstone
Live and let die
Better
Robin Solo
Sweet Child O'Mine
You could be mine
Knocking on heaven's door
Jam
Dizzy piano solo (Ziggy Stardust)
The Blues
Band Introductions
Richard Guitar Solo
Richard and Robin solo (Beautiful)
Out Ta Get Me
Ron Guitar Solo ("Don't Cry")
November Rain
IRS
My Michelle
Patience
Nightrain

encore
Paradise city

Just got home from the show. 2 words for it. Fucking awsome. G N' R started to play around 23.45h. and stopped playing around 1.50h. Same set as usual. They started with Welcome to the jungle and ended with Paradise city. 3 songs from the new album where played. The blues,Better and I.R.S. Axl was in a good mood. He introduced I.R.S as the interweb fave and he jokes around about all the downloaders. The rest of the band where also great. Robin was dressed up like some hippie indian at the begin of the set. He even had a sweatband on his head with a feather in it. Frank, the fill in for Brain, was fucking great on the drums. He played the songs very well and he reminds me a bit of Matt Sorum. Sorry for the short review but i'm very tired. I'm going to sleep very soon.

This is why I never see the posts til real late. To many jackasses who speculate and try to ruin the fun for those who want true info. Then get mad and try to tar and feather the band with speculation about what happened.  A big middle finger to those out there who talked smack about Axl and the band while the concert was playing.

show was good, but i've seen them better. axl was hungover, he told us. they drank too much champagne the night before, so now they called it 'vanpain'. but he sounded great! man his voice went over the top during the last singalong line of KOHD "knock-knock-knocking on heaven's doooooooooooor!!!) i loved it!! yeah absolutely great vocals. robin must have been high with his weird outfit. i like ron and richard more, they do better solo's. i missed CD, Maddy and rocket queen. so i think they shortened their set down, just one encore (PC). i went to the middle of the crowd for that song so i could get home faster and the sound was way better over there. man they nailed that song! see y'all in holland next week.

Great show, too bad Axl was late! When the show finally started the crowd was very calm, much calmer then in Dublin where I saw them before (but in Dublin the show started on time and the sun was still shining). We were promised a two and a half hour show but the show only lasted two hours.

Axl said he invented a new drink the night before, a mixture of Vodka and Champagne and he called it "Vampagne. It's pain". He said he had a hangover but let's be honest... who can sing a two hour Guns N' Roses show with a hangover and still sound great?!?

Yeah, the sound quality was really good at this festival. The new songs and solos didn't get the attention or response they deserve. If you think Buckethead was weird, check out Robin Finck, this guy can start his own religion! Check out the pictures of this show when they're online.

Not much more to say right now 'cause I really gotta go to bed again and most things have been posted before. Thank you for reading this. Goodnight!

There where also some negative things in this show.
-To much songs from Appetite. (G N' R have so much other great songs to play live like Civil war,Double talkin' jive,Estranged,Yesterdays,.. to name a few)
-Axl not talking that much with the audience.
-The pauses between several songs.
-To much solo's.
This is only my oppinion and how i feel it. The show was great but only these little things have bothered me.
One of the funniest things of the show was when Axl held his mic low and jumped a little up together with Tommy just to hear to sound of his shoes clapping on the stage.

back from belgium. it was awsome. gnr came 1.5h late.and some people started booing and stuff. but finally they came.
i had a pretty good overview of the people in the front row and they weren't really moving like at rock am ring. although the crowd really loved the show and the band, even in the far back of the venue, which i thought was amazng. they were singing along and were really happy.

the show was really good. axl's voice was phenomenal.i don't know how it's possible to improve that much from 2002 - 2006 just great. he didn't tlak much though. about the votcaine thing i understood that he said "cocaine" after that, maybe i was wrong.

i filmed the show. it was my first time but i think i did a pretty good job. although my battery died durnig november rain. i am missing the last half hour.

unfortunately they only played pc as an encore.

One of the funniest things of the show was when Axl held his mic low and jumped a little up together with Tommy just to hear to sound of his shoes clapping on the stage.

that's just about every show, heavy afd, not much being said, to many solos...

At ;least he is partying and having fun...

Hello Gunners

What a night yesterday.
Guns N' Roses is back for good...
Axl sounded amazing and looked very fit as well. He was magic.
We had to wait a bit longer ( 1.15min ) but is was fucking great.
They played a 2.15 min show.
A lot of Guns fans were there and we all had the same conclusion :

GUNS N' ROSES is the best band in the world!!!!

Who was there as well?

Just one hour  ::) , and it was because of the rain mostly, when the rain started they covered the stage with black plastic blankets and then when it ended they took them off

totally agree: amazing show! We had to get through several bands with very, VERY bad sound, but when GN'R came on, it was just simply perfect! About the waiting, the rain did hold things up a bit, but all in all, it wasn't that long of a wait. (Soulfly, who played before Guns, actually ended their set like 20 mins or so late, so that also hold it up a bit :-) )

and to clear things in the Axl-cocaine discussion, he definately didn't say 'cocaine', he mentioned a new drink, a mix of vodka & champagne, and they called it 'vampagne' (or 'vodpagne' not really sure now), and he said that the day after (day of the show) he was in 'pain', 'vampain'...

all in all, the best gn'r show (as a band) I've seen so far, after Nijmegen '93 & Belgium '02. now up to Nijmegen next week.... :-D

Solos can also help Axl catch his breathe and deliver vocally on the songs late in the show with the same power. ? ?It doesn't matter which era they did solos, they ultimately help the performance.

Ok but listen to Double talkin' jive. There is a great band solo in that song so Axl can rest his breath when the band is jammin' on the song. They also can skip 1 solo and let Axl  play some piano. He can start playing November rain after his solo and the band can fill in in the middle of the song.

I saw Stone Sour yesterday and Cory talks alot with the audience. He also told us several times when the new album of his band is gonna be released. The same for Soulfly and Ill Nino. Great performance by all 3 bands. James Hetfield is also great to his fans. Thats' just something Axl had to learn. Talk to his fans/audience and give some information about the future plans (new album) of the band. And it wasn't raining alot. Just a little bit of rain for about 25min. It stopped rainin' before the show.

All of that may be true but it's really not the majority in rock. Axl does a certain amount of interacting with the fans at shows, but for the most part I think he puts more into his actual performance.

As for the rain, just because it stopped doesn't mean everything dried up instantly. And even if it was a bright sunshine day and the band came out right on time and god himself was at the soundboard, it doesn't mean there wouldn't be pauses and so on. It's rock and roll not a broadway play.

My point is that it seems that people actually want something to complain about.

I had a great time last night, different crowd than Paris of course, lots of metal-heads.
I didn't expect it to be that good actually, had some die hard old school death metal guys (or girls hard to see the difference) standing next to me who were enjoying November Rain very much ?:hihi:
The sound was very good, they had the volume on the microphone right from the start.
They dropped Madagascar and CD, probably a smart thing to do at this festival show, this will work much better at their own show.
Frank did a very good job, very solid drummer. Axl mentioned that he pronounced his last name right, sort of...
Robin for me is still hit and miss, I thought he did a better job than the Paris show, Dizzy rocked the keys, Chris did his thing (), Tommy looked like he had a good time, Richard and Bumble were spot on and Axl's voice was top notch.
All in all a very pleasant evening or night I should say.

It didn't rain yet at 22.30 o'clock when the show was SUPPOSED to start! Yes, Soulfly did play a longer set then they were supposed to but only because Guns N' Roses weren't ready yet. Between the songs Soulfly left the stage to discuss if they had to play a longer set or not (same thing happened in 2002 when GN'R played at Pukkelpop and Suede played before them).
The rain wasn't the problem. I believe Axl arrived at Graspop just minutes before the show started. That's when they put his clothes (all the brown jackets) in his "dressing room" at the side of the stage.
You know, when they say that the GN'R show started late "because of technical problems" you shouldn't believe it. If their technicians were that bad Axl would have already fired them. In Dublin and London the shows started on time because they had to end at a certain hour, maybe festival promotors should write something like this in the contracts when they book GN'R.

I also attended the show, it was absolutely great. Axl's voice was terrific, no sign of 2002 at all. Raspy and great! Too bad they started late, but I think Soulfly (on a sidenote: what a horrible noise is this, and every 5 minutes the same: un, dos tres ) ending late and the rain were the main reasons for this, so no offense to Axl. Off course a lot of people in the crowd were not able to see this, but then again: it was a metal festival and there were a lot of drunks, so... As soon as they start to play, the booing was over. I think most of the things are said, so I leave it. The show is right behind Dublin, Axl was a little less talking. Only thing worth mentioning is, that in Dublin he ran to his tent almost twice a song, yesterday he did it way less often.
My only dissapointment was that there wasn't alonger set, as promissed, but anyway, what we got was great!.
The organisation of this festival was pretty poor. I aslo was at the Dublin gig and you really cannot compare. The Belgians can learn a lot in this. It costed me for example an our to get to the single shitty road leading to the civilized world after the show.

I tried to make some pictures, not to great quality, most are from the videoscreen. One has this nice feather of Finck.

I saw them 5 times on the UYI tour and I can tell you that when Axl started to intro the band everyone knew the solos were coming and were not happy. Nothing worse than having to endure a Matt drum solo at 2AM!

A guitar/bass/drum/skin flute/pan pipe/whatever solo in the middle of a concert at any time is lame.

You'd think a dynamic, groundbreaking "genius" such as  Axl could find a smarter way to eat up time onstage while he's backstage sucking oxygen.

But Jarmo, if you notice, the UYI solos where linked between each other or slash played them to link songs for example double talking with Civil War for example... Now the guitar solos have no sence, just everything stop and the guitar player  play the solo and finish... there's no feeling in my opinion. Despite this fact I love that band as well...

I hate guitar solos  that are not intros to songs.   They have to do away with these solos , they are not wanted.  Why does this band like making things difficult.  I think they are against giving the fans 100% satisfaction.   I am sure they have read these message boards  and seen how people keep complaining about the solos and yet they don't give a fuck and keep doing them.  They serve no purpose .

It was fuckin' great!

Stage-time: yeah, they were late, what else is new?

Crowd: great crowd, but everyone was a bit tired I guess.  ;)

Axl: in great shape, he was running like the devil, his voice is very very good.

Frank Ferrer: a great drummer, A LOT better than Brain (sorry guys, but that's how it is)

The band: a lot better than in '02, much improvement

The solo's: I only liked Richard's one, Robin can do much better and I hate Ron's shredding.

Over all a very very good concert, not the same as in the good old days, but hey, that's how it is.  Axl moved on, so must we.

Some reviews and pictures from Belgian newspapers. I don't feel like translating them 'cause they're full of bullshit and lies! One of the newspapers, "Het Nieuwsblad", didn't like the songs "Chinese Democracy" and " Madagascar". They didn't even play these songs motherfuckers!

Review from De Standaard (by Sasha Van der Speeten):

Maar goed, Guns N' Roses zal ongetwijfeld de nostalgici blij hebben gemaakt: ,,Welcome to the jungle'', ,,Sweet child o'mine'', ,,Live and let die'', ,,You could be mine'', ,,Knocking on heaven's door'' en natuurlijk ,,Paradise city'' waren knallers die luid werden meegebruld.

Het Nieuwsblad (by Wim Vander Haegen, who probably wasn't even there!):

Guns N'Roses sucks
Graspop haalt absoluut bezoekrecord ondanks tegenvallende headliner

The one of De Standaard is quite honest and right.  Except about using the same stage as in 2002.  :smoking:  About the piece saying that GN'R is a karaoke version of the old band, well, let's face it, to the outside-GN'R-world that's exactly what they are.  We moved on, they never will, which is understandable.

3th time I saw them.

1. in '93: Werchter. Superb concert! Played as they were (are) the best rockband out there ! Best live concert I have ever seen (not only gn'r!)
2. 2002: Pukkelpop: bad concert, no inspiration at all, a cover band with Axl as frontman

3. Graspop, last saturday: my opinion:
Newspapers are fucking right! This concert was just not so good! Better than '02, that's for sure but not like 'this was an awesome concert', like I have read before.

When I saw some video on the net from the other europenan shows (and NY), I expected a really good performance...but no way: to boring.
And I really hate saying this, as I love the Guns. I really lost "touch" with them during the show...and this should not happen.

A guitar solo (even a drumsolo, like back in the day!) should not be boring. No people should love them, sing along, whatever... the solo took the "ambiance" away from the concert. The solo's in UYI world tour were never boring, in fact they put the songs together...

I really do not want to say that the new guns are not good enough because I really believe that they are fantastic musicians (they play the song very well), but they do not have (yet) that magic that the (old) guns once had!?

And if Axl & co likes to be once again the best rockband out there...well it's all about the magic! (which I did not feel last sautrday). Let's hope they have this for next time I'll see them!! : ok:

Cheers.

People complaining about the solos probably never had to listen to a drum solo during the UYI tour. :hihi:
/jarmo

I saw them 5 times on the UYI tour and I can tell you that when Axl started to intro the band everyone knew the solos were coming and were not happy. Nothing worse than having to endure a Matt drum solo at 2AM!

guess we're off topic now but wasn't matts solos like 8-10 minutes long?

okeeee, finaly i'm home from a looong weekend...went to graspop saturday, came home around 5, went to paris with school around 7...slept 3 hours in 62 hours...AND have mixed feelings about the show.

first of all band was great, axl in good mood(but having a serious hangover like he said), richard amazing, ron was ok(not he best don't cry performance i've heard),finck was good(looking WEEEIRD haha, in a poncho and with a feather in his head...guess he goes from a pirate look to an aztecs ook or something...weirdo? :hihi:

I? saw almost every bootlegvideo from the previous shows and my expectations were high but it just didn't felt good. An hour and 15 minutes late...ok i can live with that...it's guns n' roses, but the reason why was just fucked up. Axl acted like a fucking diva and the organisation had to rebuild the backstage area just for him not getting a little bit wet. If he had played the full promised 2 and a half hours i would have felt better, but they played like 2 hours and 10 minutes with at least 35 minutes of solos and bandjams...come on axl, if they do that in an arenashow it's probably great. But for a lot of metal fans who aren't really gn'r fans it just sucks. But then again, axl looked sharp, vocals were great, performance of the songs were good, new drummer didn't make a lot of mistakes....don't worry about that guy, he's great...axl was also in a good mood, but i think it's not going the good way with him. If he won't cancel some concerts of this european tour( still a loooong time) i would be surprised. It feels like he is unstable again, partying, getting arrested, having serious hangovers. Ok, that's rock n' roll, and in a way it's cool. But we all now what's going to happen if he would be to fucked up to play a concert and just cancels it --->last chance will be blown, and i just hope he makes it trough all the dates? :-\ .... looks like the last chance is already blown for the belgian press...i was expecting those fucked up reviews...and you can say a millon times the press isn't important, well let's face it...THEY ARE IMPORTANT! they can make or brake axl for a lot of people who aren't familiar with the new band etc.

mixed feelings, not exactly great if you are waiting such a long time to see guns n' roses and are sticking with the band for all those years with no album.

axl didn't 'disappear' alot after songs...the lights didn't go out...band just kept playing those catchy bluestunes, at one point he started acting like a duck on stage? ;D and making ducknoises...weird? :hihi:

Axl moved on, so must we.

bullshit.....  did you see this band live before??

thanks for the pics by the way
