technical difficulties.. the band gets those alot in this tour.. ha ha ha.

everyband has a lot of technical difficulties on tour, just sayin...

and i hope no one complains about a similar set list. ?it gets really annoying. ?it's not like Axl/other members come on here and see that the members all think he should play more UYI stuff, and change it. ?honestly only us, the hardcore fans care, so it's not like its worth complaining about.

Considering they started 12 minutes after they did in Glasgow it looks like they will wrap up the set in less time. So far missing Used To Love Her which was played in Glasgow.

no, im sure he loves the song... but the band cant play it... well, Ron cant, we know this because of the songs he's had to learn, and they aint played all the songs he's learned yet, so i doubt they would play that.

Okay that is definitely not the reason they're not playing CITR.? Secondly I love this setlist.? IRS into My Michelle.? Can not wait til the US tour.? The Northwest is the best man!

Okay that is definitely not the reason they're not playing CITR.

why isnt that the reason?

weve been told what songs Ron has had to learn, and weve seen a photo of a setlist with all song possibilities on it... seems acceptable to me.

ive been wondering that too... ive been dieing to hear it... im thinkin they might play it on the last UK date since thats the end of the tour :P then again, i could be wrong hehe.

but if it sucks... then why wasnt he told to learn a good song such as Oh My God? (i like it)

i love rhiad, so i want them to play it lol

looks like it could possible be a midnight curfew :(

It wasn't, the main set wasn't over by midnight! They came on around 10:15 by which time the booing had started (that started after every song from about 10pm) - crowd were generally good, mexican wave went round the arena, lots of girls getting their breasts out (encouraged by the lighting guy who kept putting the spotlight on them!)

Anyway, great show (marred only by the assholes who decided to come and sit next to us in Block 102 after a few songs and talked LOUDER THAN THE FUCKING BAND (how is that even possible?) and refused polite requests to keep it down until they became abusive and I got them thrown back to their own seats) - the guy next to me was definitely bootlegging, although this'll have impacted on his recording some.

Axl seemed in a good mood throughout, and I didn't even spot the technical difficulties, unless you're talking about whatever went wrong in the solo before he went into Don't Cry. He came out to the side of the stage and spoke to someone, then came straight back on and went into DC. The solos weren't greeted particularly warmly where I was (the general attitude was 'ah, time for a toilet break!') but there's nothing like watching a stadium go off when the intro riff to Sweet Child Of Mine is played, for example.

Very little recognition for the new songs - saw one guy singing along to Better and that was about it.

I was surprised at the amount of kids there who weren't even born when Illusion came out, much less Appetite. One kid near me spent some of the time with his hands over his ears, scared of the pyros, he was that young - don't know what his parents were thinking!

Erm, anyway, work tomorrow. Maybe more tomorrow evening. Short video of Patience, too. :)

Gah, should sleep but keep thinking of things. Someone threw a Union Jack flag on stage before Patience and Axl wrapped himself in it while he sang.

Dude - Ron's ability on the guitar has been proven by his solos on TWAT, Better, and IRS. ?I love CITR and haven't heard anything he can't handle. ?Axl doesn't feel like having a live bootleg floating around of it. ?Trust me when its ready its ready. ?I would love to have Brian May on it at Wembley though. ?Holy oh my......

I know damn well Rons ability has been proven... that isnt even my argument about it not been played... my reason is that he hasnt been given it to learn... now from that, there could be a million reasons why that is.. but the fact is:

he hasnt been told to learn it
so he cant play it
so the band cant play it
so it wont be played...

you get where im coming from now?

im not questioning his musical ability at all.

EDIT:

Whatever Finck can do... Ron can do better :P

...

but that isnt hard :P

Okay to all your points but I just feel like you're questioning Ron's ability.? When you say "the band can't play it" it seems like you're attacking their credibiliby.? And I do believe they can play it as they are the ones playing it on the leaked version minus Brian May's contribution.? I honestly believe Bumble can play most if not all of Chinese Democracy

i said the band cant play it... because if Ron cant play it (because he hasnt had it to learn like the others) then the band as a whole cant play it because Rons part wouldnt be in the song and the BAND wouldnt play a song without all the possible parts.

thats all im saying. trust me, the new band are the fucking shit. and ron is amazing... but how can he play something that he hasnt been told to learn yet?

ofcourse, things could have changed, but the fact is, they aint gonna be playing anymore songs than what they already have because of bootleggers so what would be the point in Ron learning anymore than them few songs he was told to?

you get what im saying now? :)

I just got back!!

What can I say?!! ? It was amazing!! I can truly say that was the best show I have ever seen and well worth the wait.

Everything about it was spectacular, the setlist was great, the band seemed in REALLY good spirits with plenty of smiles from Axl and Bumblefoot and the crowd were, for the most part, cool and well behaved (not too much shit being thrown).

Anyway, We got down to the floor early so we could get a decent spot, we managed to get just left of the stage only feet away from the front. The first support band came on, a few people were nodding there heads but overall no one seemed overly impressed! The singer sounded like a bad Jonny Rotten wannabe. I think most were thankful when their set came to an end.
After this there was a brief interval and Bullet For My Valentine hit the stage. Alhough not a fan of them myself, a lot of people were singing the words and appeared to be enjoying their set. I thought the guitar work was good on some of the songs, pity about the vocals though.
After this there was a wait that seemed like an eternity, i'm not sure exactly how long it was but people were becoming frustrated and the heat definately wasn't helping! A few booos started here and there, along with the usual 'We want Slash' chant. A few girls were trying to outdo each other for the loudest cheer by showing their breasts! This made the wait a little easier to cope with nevertheless ?:hihi:
Then it happened! The lights went down, the eerie music started over the PA, the opening riff from WTTJ cried out and Axl appears in the darkness, 'DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE FUCK YOU ARE!!??' The lights come on and the crowd go nuts! Axl is wearing shades and chewing gum like the true rockstar that he is!
After a few songs he commented on how he was told by his tour manager (?) that the venue was special and that he thought we were an amazing crowd, to which he got lots of cheers and an 'AXL, AXL, AXL' chant he then smiled and thanked us! During 'Patience' I noticed something was thrown on the stage, Axl walks over to investigate while still singing and picks it up, it's a Union Jack flag!! He held it open for the crowd and then wrapped it around himself Mick Jagger style!!! The crowd loved it!!
There was a slight technical problem during Ron's solo where he was playing but there was no sound, then to make things worse he tried to tell us something over the mic, but that didn't work either! After this was sorted he played 'Don't Cry' and the crowd sang along, Bumble gave us the thumbs up! He seems like a really cool guy.
We were treated to a decent amount of new songs, a few were singing along but a lot of the crowd obv hadn't heard the leaks. 'Madagascar' was played during the encore, I had hoped they would play it, after seeing it on countless bootleg DVD's it was good to finally experience it (Visuals and all) for myself!

A few other highlights (while it's still fresh in my memory!) :

-'Take that one to your ENGLISH hearts' at the end of Out To Get Me
-Izzy joining them onstage!!!!
-Axl between songs - 'We haven't slept for 2 days, Richard hasn't slep cos he was working on a song, I didn't sleep last night cos I was workin on...Something, I can't remember her name...But I can tell you I worked damn hard' LMAO!!
-Finally getting to see Axl perform 'November Rain', goosebumps on my arms!!
-The confetti and pyro during Paradise City
-Axl telling us to 'Take care and have a safe journey home' at the end of the show, fuck what people might think of him ? or say, tonight he was full of smiles and showed the crowd a lot of love.

Sorry if i'm rambling and if the post doesn't make great sense! ?i'm bound to have forgotten a few other things but i'm exhausted! 10/10 show!!

Thankyou and good FUCKING night!!!!!!!!!!

*EDIT* Forgot to say, got some cool photos on the digicam, will try and get them up 2moz for you guys  : ok:

Just back from the best Gnr show i have seen so far..

The arena was almost full with a very warm feeling. People seemed very happy doing the waves and breast flashing, waiting for Mr Axl to be more than 1 hour late...Even Bumblefoot was at the side of the stage with his guitar waiting at least 30 Min for the show to start ???

Gnr started and the crowd exploded...Generally the reception was really good and the arena was rocking in the Gnr mode..

The band was really tight with a lot of smiles and an Axl to be in a good mood and really performing at his best...

At some point he received a UK flag from the crowd and he was wearing it.

They were plenty of solos in this gig and Robin i think played an extra one...
In my opinion although the solos are really good, they kinda kill the momentum...
As soon as they play a rocker and the crowd really get into it, then they play a solo and make the crowd to either sit again or go for another beer...

The setlist was longer than the other current UK shows with an extended encore and 4 new songs (the blues, Madagascar,Better, I.R.S)

Izzy again stole the show when he came on and the whole arena started cheering when he appeared...

Overall it was the most solid and best performance i've seen so far and this band is really proving that are here for the long run, and have the balls to carry the GNR name...The more i watch this lineup the more convinced i become that they are set for something special.....Also Axl seems to be getting better and better as time passes and it seems that his confidence is increasing...His energy and willingness to perform a great show, doesn't differ much from the old days...

Now although i am a big buckethead fan, it seems this lineup is tighter than the 2002 one...Also visually i have to aggree that bumblefoot fits better with the band. Having said that though, Buckethead performance and solos were more distinct, than ron...Ron is a likable guy with nice music who fits with the band......Buckethead was a personna and imo a level above the other guitarists in the band....I just wish his parts stay on C.D

Well i am really happy right now and excited...Some dreams really come true...I am off to bed now as in few hours i am back at work

Ah i almost forgot....something for you to enjoy.... :)

Overall it was the most solid and best performance i've seen so far and this band is really proving that are here for the long run, and have the balls to carry the GNR name...The more i watch this lineup the more convinced i become that they are set for something special.....Also Axl seems to be getting better and better as time passes and it seems the his confidence is increasing...His energy and willingness to perform a great show, doesn't differ much from the old days...

Am I the only one worried that Axl said Richard's working on a song? Hopefully that's not a "Chinese Democracy" song. Hopefully those are all done. Hopefully he means Richard is rehearsing a song they've never played live before.

I was surprised at the amount of kids there who weren't even born when Illusion came out, much less Appetite. One kid near me spent some of the time with his hands over his ears, scared of the pyros, he was that young - don't know what his parents were thinking!

Dude, I think I would kick that kid's ass if I saw that, he must be 12 years old or something like that, they shouldn't allow children in Gn'R shows...

They were with their parents!

I would be surprised if any Gn'r fan wasn't impressed with that above video of I.R.S. The
band sounds tight as ever and Axl's voice is amazing. I remember watching the VMA's in 2002 and actually feeling embarassed because Axl's vocals sounded so shot. It's videos like the one above that make me proud to be a Gn'r fan who not only loves the lineup (even Pitman!) but can't wait to hear these new songs on the upcoming record as well. and Izzy showing up at these shows is just plain cool. :smoking:

Thanks for the great reviews and for the footage as well

Phenomenal show, the band was running hot last night and the encore was amazing. The first 4 or 5 songs blew the house down and the atmosphere was amzing, the intensity did dip then probably until Izzy came on but more inclined to say the heat was taking the energy from the crowd rather than say it was the bands fault although the solo's do break the momentum a bit too much but it's only a small complaint really.

New songs weren't well recieved overall, they weren't booed or anything but it was clear the crowd didn't know them.

Most main points have already been covered by everyone else, basicall a kickass show ?: ok:

I took a friend who's a casual GNR fan to the show and before it he was saying he thought Axl looked a bit daft with braids and was looking old etc. After this show he was discussing with me how Axl's got to be still one of the great frontmen of all time after that performance ?

Well I think it's bed for me as after the show we spent all night wandering round manchester until our 6am train. I'll be honest it was a boring 6 hours ?:hihi:

Anyway great show and those who are going to the remaining shows I hope you enjoy them as much as I did ?: ok:

About Richard working on a new song.. I think thats fucking great. Shows the band is still writing shit for later albums. Maybe this version of GNR will survive Chinese Democracy and move forth. Of corse its a bit early to talk about later albums.. but it gets me excited as fuck.

If you guys don't recall GN'R were working on a new song when they were rehearsing in N.Y. before the shows. Axl says so in the Eddie Trunk interview.

I hope Axl pulls off whatever he's planning because I would LOVE for this version of GNR to have its own sweet ass prime.

OMG, the left out Paradise City!  :o I guess it's the first time that other song closed the show - and the band played a full show without a riot or leaving earlier for some reasons.

I totally back Axl's decision cause it's high time to do something different and I take it as a good sign that Axl will really start his new career and stop living of the past and he will replace the old tunes with some new ones in the future.  :peace:

looks like it could possible be a midnight curfew :(

That guy next to you bootlegging would be me ;)  Managed to get the whole show as well.....Paradise finished and the battery literally died on me, so good job there was no more encores.... : ok:

I think last night was the coolest night of my life so far. First when we got in and went to our seats Bumblefoot was sat in the crowd 1 seat away from me eating his dinner and watching the opening acts. I got a chance to speak to him briefly but just chit chat really nothing major, but hes a really nice guy. Then I got talking to he guy sat next to me and he had backstage passes and got given a couple of extra ones that he gave to me and my wife. I think hat guy gave me the greatest present ever. So the show really rocked and it was a great setlist. Axl was on great form for the night. Then after the show we got to go backstage and meet the band (except Axl). This was an awesome experience and I got to talk to everone except Axl and they were all really down to earth and friendly. I didnt really know what to say so I jut congratulated them ll on a good show and asked them to sign my ticket.

Anyway that was the best night ever :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace:

Amazing concert....went to Dublin first then Sheffield and finally Manchester and each got better and better...and i dont see how they can eclipse last nights show....wow

The manchester crowd lived up to its reputation and was so great. It was the only concert i could barely hear Axl sing at because the crowd were singing so loud, so it was nice to hear Axl on the new songs that just me, my brother and a few others were singing along to....Us downloading mother f*****s!!

Can't fault Axl's performance for last night, he was awesome, not only with the singing but also with the banter and his overall presence.

I was disappointed with havin to wait so long, because where I was at least the crowd were too knackered to move by the end (we were standing for 4 1/2 hrs before the band had even come on). I think the crowd in the middle looked a bit more lively, but obviously I wasn't going to give up my place at the front for that.

Also the "new" members didn't really get a great reaction, noted once again by Mr Rose; "Back by unpopular demand, Robin Finck" (or Fortus can't remember).

The long solos were also not a great idea - we've all seen shredding before

I was also gutted that Izzy never once came over to where I was stood. He moved twice over to the left corner, but the rest of the time he remained stationary behind the mic towards the back of the stage.

Still, an awesome performance and a near-perfect setlist (why the fuck do they never play TWAT?)

Good job boys  : ok:

Who the fuck wants to wait 4 1/2 hours for a group, then stand around for another 2 1/2 hours for the show?

Alot of people have jobs and kids to attend to the next day.

When you go to a movie theater, do you wanna wait 2 hours in the theater for the show to start?

Because they were crushed and it was damn hot in there, I suspect. It was outrageously hot even in the seats, so god knows what it must have been like on the floor.

The band were scheduled for 9:30 last night, so were at least less than an hour late.

uhm... so you have a choice... to go or not to go. gnr are not a movie theater (althoug sometimes look like one). also if you go you have another choice... to stand or to seat. if you don' want to stand you get reserved seating and enjoy some beer and cigarettes until 10PM. it is really simple. you are paying people, so it is really your choice. maybe better to spend 40GBP for drinks or food or... girls or whaever. or buy something to your girlfriend. don't spend your hard earned money on waiting.

You know why I think people get pissed at the lateness? It just doesnt seem to have a reason. Axl turns up consistently late and never has a good excuse for it. The people who follow the band like us know, but Id sure as hell get pissed if I went there thinking (God forbid) they would actually come on when they are due to.

That could of been me, I sang along to all the new songs but whilst singing 'Better' i became aware of a few people looking at me in a 'How the fuck does he know this but we don't' kind of way!! Ah the joys of the internet!

As for the wait, I discussed it in my initial review but at the end of the day I think we all know Axl will do what he wants when he wants. Axl will come on when HE decides he's ready. I didn't mind too much because as I said before it was WELL worth the wait and Axl put on an excellent performance.

Does anyone know what Axl was talking about when he said 'Now now boys and girls, don't spoil it'? Did someone boo Finck or Fortus??  I noticed when Robin played his very first solo (Which he's played the whole tour I think) a few people were saying stuff like 'I paid good money for this?' and 'I can play better than that!'. This particular solo is quite bad though (and I love Robin's shit), it sounds purposely out of tune and like he's hitting any old strings!!

He said that because he was about to introduce Izzy and loads of people at the side of the stage were already chanting Izzy Izzy Izzy
