Glad I don't visit "Ultimate Classic Rock"s website.  If your regulars are voting "Ratt" over "Nirvana"......

Of course Ratt beats Nirvana.  Weird that Nirvana is even in a "Classic Rock" contest.  Am I that old that they are now considered classic rock???

Lifelong fan of both bands, but I would obviously lean towards GNR.

I'm not a big Nirvana fan, but I'd take them over Ratt.  If 'classic rock' means 'old rock', then Nirvana definitely fits the bill.  They're music is older now then Led Zeppelin's was back then. 

Anyway, forget Ratt-Nirvana, I find it much more ridiculous that voters so far have GNR over Bon Jovi by only a few % points. 

Funny thing is when I first saw it yesterday, GNR were quite a bit behind. By 20% or so, so the fans have made up alot of ground then some in 24 hrs.

Bon Jovi has a pretty solid fanbase.  They are always one of the top grossing touring acts.

Yes they do though I would say that their fan base has certainly dwindled alot , I used to be a fan in HS, way back when Fahrenheit was out, think I lost interest after Slippery, but regardless even way back then GNR were top for me.

I have been a lifelong Bon Jovi fan and been to several concerts over many tours.

And they are one of the bands I look out over the crowd, the packed house, and think...this should be us (GNR fans).

Never cared for their sugar coated pop rock. They're one of the reasons why GN'R appealed to me.

I never really considered GNR and Bon Jovi to be true genre rivals, simply rivals in terms of time frame.

I considered GNR's genre rivals to be the Crue, Poison, Def Leppard, etc.  All bands GNR seems miles above, to me.

All those bands you mentioned, plus the earlier mentioned one, were what was popular at the time and I didn't get into any of them.

That was my experience as well back then.  While GNR was often lumped in with those bands as contemporaries, I never quite got how I could like one so much but have no interest at all in the others (except maybe a few Crue songs).  To me, GNR alone had a certain rawness and grittiness that those bands lacked. 

For what it's worth, when I was making mix tapes those days, I would usually have GNR on the same tape as Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains and AC/DC. 

Just checked Pandora Radio out of curiosity... the "similar artists" are AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, and, sure enough, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard.

I am not really a fan of Bon Jovi but I think they have handled their career much better than Guns have: thirteen studio albums and it is only recently, with the departure of Sambora in 2013, that they began to run into line-up difficulties.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.

The craziest thing is that if you went back to 1988, and treated both GNR and Bon Jovi as stocks, you'd grab up as much GNR as you could get and unload all your Bon Jovi.  GNR looked the far stronger bet, and Bon Jovi appeared to be a fad.

Funny how things work out though, huh?

They deserve respect. They get a lot of abuse from the, ''dude, I like heavy music'', metalhead lobby for being a bit pop but there is nothing intrinsically wrong with what they do. 

Really treat their fans like gold too.  Of the bands that I follow, Pearl Jam and Bon Jovi are models for how it should always be.

Not a Bon Jovi fan.... but funny how little respect they get around here because of one Axl Rose rant about Bon Jovi at a concert over 20 years ago lol

Quantity doesn't equal quality though. I haven't cared for much of their music past the early 90's, save for a few songs. Especially their recent stuff. I realize people could say the same about CD, and I don't mean to take anything away from Bon Jovi. They're still massively popular, and that's to be respected. But if GNR released 13 albums, each one getting progressively less enjoyable, I'm not sure how excited about that I'd be.

Meanwhile, norwegian satanrockers tells their fans to commit suicide.

From my standpoint, if a band whose music I do not like manages its career well and maintains its popularity, that's more reason for me not to like them because it increases the chances that I hear their music, whether it's in public events, commercials, etc.

With motley crue I mostly care for the first two albums and new tattoo. They are very famous for the rest tho.

Just voted, Guns is the obvious choice for me. Looks like they are winning but by no more than a half of a percent.

Don't care how nice some band is to their fans or how well their career is going when the essential thing is missing: The music.

Your favorite band does not start out on an even playing field.  Odds are, you are already incredibly slanted. 

For instance, look at some of the waxing poetic we heard about 'Chinese Democracy'.  The only people on the planet that view it that way are Guns N' Roses fans.  Even the good reviews it got, they didn't go overboard with any sort of "masterpiece" labels.  The only ones that go that far are already established Guns N' Roses fans, because you can't help but be biased towards your favorite.

Are we exactly up to our ass in music though?

Obviously. But I did like Bon Jovi when I was 10. I liked their music from the 80's and still do. I haven't liked much of what they've released over the past 25 years or so. So when I only like 2 out of 13 of their albums, I can't use that as a check mark in their favor. I'm amazed they've been able to stay as popular as they have over the years. They've kept appealing to their aging female audience, as their music has become much softer over the years.

Doesn't matter. If GN'R only put out one album that I really liked and then split up, I'd still think they are better than any of those other bands left in the battle of the bands.
Sorry, don't care for Bon Jovi, Jon Bon Jovi or his career. Don't take it personally.

Poison and RATT beat Nirvana and Soundgarden! It is definitely a poll for the mullet wearer. I am not really sure if it is worth my time voting on such a poll.

Kind of lost their way the last few albums, I think.  The country inspired one was kind of meh, and the last one didn't excite me.

But I liked it all up until 2006's 'Have A Nice Day'.  I think that one is one of their strongest top to bottom.

Yeah, credibility really suffers with those picks.  And I like all 4 of those bands.

I only listen to bands that Axl Rose has pre-approved for me, like Sebastian Bach and Taylor Momsen.  : ok:

I really cant stand Bon Jovi.  Dont really mean to offend any of there fans on here, this is just imo...  My biggest gripe with them is what are they actually singing about?  They are very radio friendly and there music is very easy to listen too, as you dont really have to think too much.  Sorta like the nickelback of the 80s. 

IMO, guns and bon jovi shouldnt even be in the same coversation.

I almost voted for Bon Jovi because I'm not comfortable with GNR winning the same contest in which Ratt beat Nirvana.  But I voted for GNR anyway.

GNR is behind by one percent or so. Just voted for them again (you're allowed one a day). Not that the contest is a big deal but hell, might as well.

Just voted again and now guns has a nice lead.   

Yeah, they are ahead by about 2-3 points.

Today is the last day for votes if I am not mistaken and Bon Jovi seems to be closing the gap. They are pretty close so now every vote really counts!

I'm not really sure why Bon Jovi was included in this poll.  Now I am a fan of Bon Jovi, being from Jersey and all, but they are not exactly a hard rock/metal band.  If anything they are more of an adult contemporary band, and to their credit nobody has done it better for the past 30 years.  They started playing stadiums in the late 80's and still play stadiums today and never went through a down time in popularity, they were always massive.  They attract more of a  Rascal Flatts, Michael Buble type of an audience than a GNR or Metallica one.  You will see them on shows like Ellen, The Today Show and  Live with Kelly and Michael.  So while I kind of understand their late 80's records maybe putting them on this list, they really did move away from the hard rock thing about 25 years ago.  Also they are nowhere near as good as GNR.  :)

Ya I like to refer to them as easy listening rock music..   Something you would here in a elevator.  Songs are not really about anything and you don't have to put much thought into them.   I am sure a lot of Bon Jovi fans are Nickleback fans as well

I wouldn't go as far as the Nickelback reference.  No band has ever had less to say than Nickelback.  :hihi:
