SO they have played Yesterdays, TWAT, Sorry, My Michelle, CITR, and a few others, but this Stadium Leg, they have stuck to the main list.  I wonder why they rarely change it.  Maybe it is simpler for them to leave it...As a die hard, I wish to hear all the songs at least once.

I think that they have perfected the setlist and are focused on delivering a well oiled machined show everytime. Let's face it seeing the show live is amazing regardless of the setlist and each performance of each song almost gets better each time performed. If this leg of the tour isn't broken then why fix it? So yes, maybe it is simpler.

I'm thinking we will continue to get the same setlist with a surprise here and there. I'm perfectly fine with that, but I understand your perspective. If anyone were to tell you last year that GNR would be playing Double Talking Jive and Coma during a show you probably wouldn't believe it. I know would have a hard time believing and I'm willing to guess the hardcore fans who check out this site on a daily basis would have a hard time it believing too.

By the way, hearing Double Talking Jive live this tour has been amazing. It's now one of my favorite songs live now. I hope it stays on the setlist.

I think it all has to do with playing stadiums

With a lot of these stadiums you are seeing time curfews.   The show times have to very tight to allow everything to get off before the cut off time

With these stadiums I am seeing a lot of timed pyro.  With this you are going to have certain songs in certain places.  Just the way it is

I hate a few of the songs they play, but as it was pointed out to me on here.  There are a few of these songs that I hate that are perfect for large stadiums   They really involve the crowd and make for the General gnr public to have a great concert experience.  Kohd, lald. (Even though they are cover songs)

I do not know why they alter some classic guns songs though and not play all the hits or just play all guns music all the time.
But oh well

This is there stadium show on this leg of the tour and they have been great so far and I can't wait to get my fix

I also can't wait for a arena tour, hopefully.   With no curfew

Right before Nightrain Axl sang the line "I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans" from the song "City of New Orleans".  Awesome song!!  Has one of my favorite lines from a song "Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle."
That song also features the lyrics "Good morning America How Are You?" which was part of the Chinese Democracy "Grenade" art.

This is the current setlist breakdown, I think less covers and more UYI and CD would be better.
Appetite for Destruction   8
Covers   6
Use Your Illusion I   4
Chinese Democracy   3
Use Your Illusion II   3

6 covers sounds like a lot but it isn't really.
Layla and Wish you were here are literally just jams.  Axl needs a little break and then needs to warm up on the piano before NR.
Its a total of 6 or 7 mins.

Heavens door and LALD are technically covers but they were recorded by Guns and are songs associated with Guns.  Also great songs to play live.

Attitude is another one were Axl just needs a small break.

Axl is an intense front man and needs to take some small breaks.  I prefer them to play a Spaghetti Incident song and some jams instead of a drum solo for 10 minutes.

I think the set list will pretty much stay the same until the end of this leg. Maybe we'll see a change to the set list in South America after Axl's next run with AC/DC. Don't Damn Me is one of my favourite tracks from UYI and they've never played it, I dunno why cos it's a kickass song!! Breakdown would be also be very welcome or Dead Flowers as an alternative for The Seeker. If Izzy joins the band at some stage they should Locomotive, Anything Goes or Slash's Ghost, that'd be cool. Whatever they play I'll enjoy anyway but would love to hear some more original Guns material

I think this is basically the setlist.  I don't expect too much in the way of changes once they hit South America or anywhere else.

And that's all fine.

Now, god willing there is another tour in 3-4 years and its the same setlist, that's an issue.  Then is just the never ending Chinese Democracy World Tour thing all over again.

I agree all around. LALD and Heavens Door are not going anywhere and rightfully so. People want to hear those songs. Duffs spot and Layla are all good and give Axl a breather.

The only spot where you can reasonably complain for another GNR original is the seeker. Which I also would rather not be in there... But the band seems to disagree!

Is there any real surprise to this, though?  If anything, it shows that AFD has stood the test of time more than any other album, which is generally how things shake out.  Jungle is still played at NFL games, and still fires up the crowd each time...almost 30 years later.

I'd swap out an AFD song, maybe 2, for some more UYI stuff.

And I'd ignore CD completely.  I think the elimination of the 3 CD tracks for a 'Used To Love Her', 'Yesterdays', or even a 'Dead Horse' is a stronger show.

I think it s a fair assumption to make that a majority of these crowds are crowds going because its the big 3 back together again. Most of the people going to these shows are probably people who never gave Chinese Democracy a chance so unless your a true die hard fan who stuck with the band over the last 15 years thats why people don't get behind the CD songs. Now if this version of the band can stay together for the long haul and slash & duff continue playing some of those songs i think people will get behind them more but it will take time.

All these unicorns I heard about for years, who became big fans during the CD era and just love that stuff...guess they all skipped my show.

I made it a point to talk to people everywhere, just to see what was what  In the lot, in every beer line, in my section, walking in and out of the stadium.  All fans from way back.  The younger ones I did find were there for the material from way back.

It's a not a hill worth dying on, but it doesn't mean you can't call it what it is.  People where there because "Guns N' Roses were back!!"  And no one meant back since 2014 either.

Pink Floyd
the stones
Kiss?

I want to hear a gnr song.

Not a bob Dylan song.  Ugh

Not a song by wings.  Ugh

Play some more song off of lies.   It was a great selling album. People may want to hear some of that

I don't get what this means?

Just because they put someone's song on there album doesn't make it theirs.

I didn't like it in the 90s. And I overly don't like it now.

Guns has so much music to pick through.    But we get 6 covers?

Some that were on guns albums. Lots that were not

So if gun put out another cover album of hard rock music

And just toured with that   You would be happy?

I wouldn't.    I want guns music.  No covers

If I wanted a bob Dylan song I would go to some flea market   Give the guy a quarter and eat a hot dog and listen.  Oh the times they are a changing.     Great song

If I wanted to hear anything from sir Paul. I would pick up his one legged ex wife.  Ask her to tell Paul to call ringo and meet us at the local cheese factory.  Get her to give him 10 percent off his alimony and listen to a day in the life.   I woke up got out of bed combed my head.    Lovely

Guns music!

Is this super realistic?

These songs were singles, with videos, radio staples, and mainstays at GNR concerts for over 25 years.

They've played KOHD in practically every show since B E F O R E the release of Appetite. You think they'll suddenly stop playing it now? It was basically the 4th single off Appetite... via the MTV show. One of their most recognizable hits. LALD was one of they're highest charting singles. Neither one is going anywhere, and shouldn't if they want to keep filling stadiums.

Not a song by wings.  Ugh

Is this super realistic?

These songs were singles, with videos, radio staples, and mainstays at GNR concerts for over 25 years.

Well I am not overly crazy.  So I do think it is realistic.

For this stadium act.   Not so much though.

I would love to see a poll of the unwashed masses    If they went to a guns show.  And they played zero covers.   Would they be happy or not.

I don't even think this forum would be happy.   Well

Some are happy no matter what

Some complain no matter what

Some actually try and justify that cover songs are actually guns songs.  They were on a album!  Ugh

Play the garden.   That's a cool song

Like most bands they played cover songs before they actually got there own songs

Alice cooper was the same way

Guess what.  Both Alice and guns have a bunch of songs

Cover songs.  Ugh.  Welcome to my nightmare

I guess Jimi Hendrix should have not played All along the Watchtower since it was a Bob Dylan song first

Enough already.

Did anyone catch Axl referencing the City of New Orleans before Nightrain?

I never went to a Jimi show.  Or plan on going to one anytime soon.  Depending on how my liver lasts haha

My point is I guess I don't want guns to play any covers.

Jimi may have been young.   May not have had all his songs.  I don't know

I am sure there are tons of other bands that play covers as well.  Great

We have a band that the members are 50 years old with tons of music in the guns backlog.  Tons of songs they have never played live.  But they keep the covers coming.

It's not every show update.  I just started this cover hate.

True.  That video from the Ritz played non-stop.

Might still be my favorite early version.

Well if you would have bothered to come online and watch the periscopes and updates being posted in real time, you would have seen that YES the City of New Orleans song reference was noted in the Setlist posted:
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=67700.msg1440004#msg1440004

and that MNGS717 told the story of the connection between that song and the Chinese Democracy grenade logo!!!
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=67700.msg1440083#msg1440083

What could you have possibly been doing at that time that was more interesting than being online here??

Hope you're having an awesome time!!!  :)

In all seriousness I agree with you there.  I've gotta say, besides a few things I would tweek I am pretty happy with the set list.  The only song I don't understand like so many others is The Seeker.  That being said if its a song that Axl looks forward to and gets pumped to play then I am for it.  I'd rather have a focused and happy Axl than a grumpy Axl.

Would be shocked if this is not the case at every venue.

Look, if doing a few of those tunes was needed to make the tour happen, it's the cost of doing business as far as I'm concerned.

Seems like the interviewer girl was caught off-guard that the guy at the very end had a positive response.
That interviewer has a bright future as a political journalist for any number of major news networks.  : ok:

As for the other people being interviewed, they don't know what they've missed out on as far as the rumored history behind some of the CD songs.  Listening to Slash playing songs like Sorry brought out a whole lot of shock n' awe from fans of CD.  :hihi:

This question is for DX in regards to the CD songs that are getting played on this current tour. Have you not had any interest in hearing the old guns take on any of the CD songs? The reason for my question is if this band is going to stay together for the long run you can't have tour after tour of AFD & UYI even with the original guys eventually the luster will wear off you have to add new touches in any tours to follow this one the inclusion of any CD songs are important because you have to add some wrinkles to any future tour. Do you agree, disagree?

I dunno. I think a nice chunk of the fanbase, esp those who filled arenas in fall 2011 and went to the UCAP shows a few months later were fans of Chi Dem.  Not saying they're the majority, but they're certainly out there.

Fuck, there was a steady stream of people going for beers during "Coma".  Might as well have been a song off Chinese to them. It wasn't one of the big 3 or 4 GNR tunes they were aware of so fuck it, right?

Honestly, I think a good number of the stadium going crowd are there for Jungle, SCOM, Paradise City and maybe November Rain and tolerate the rest while waiting. Who cares about them? Not this guy.

The tour promoter, the band's accountant/s, and each member of the band whose pay is based ticket sales care very much about those fans. They made the reunion happen and buy a lot of the tickets.... enough so the promoter was able to stage this as a stadium tour. They 'general fan' also bought a lot of the tickets before the reunion too.

Yeah, no kidding, and that's not being disputed. My point is that stuff like that video where they accost clueless "fans" and ask them their thoughts on Chinese Democracy shouldn't be taken seriously.  And also that there are likely just as many people singing along to Better as there are singing along to Out Ta Get Me.

I prefer the way they play CD on this tour.  Think its really strong.

My favorite version was always RIR III.  I think the song is a solid, 3 minute rocker.

HATED that long pretentious intron the album and subsequent live versions since.

I think Slash is a better guitar player than anyone that played on any version of 'Sorry' or 'This I Love'.  But I just don't really like those songs as a whole.

Yet when this tour was announced and people suggested they could leave CD songs out entirely, people acted like we shot the pope.

But I think videos like this support that they likely could have been.  I went out of my way to talk to as many people as I could at my show.  Cut across all groups : young, old, male, female, etc.  Despite seeking out a diversity of people, I did not find diversity of opinion.

Tons of people asked me about the show when tickets went on sale.  Again, from all groups of folks.  Every single one them quickly asked how many CD songs "they would have to sit through".

I hope they play for 3 hours in Peru so they can play most of the Alt on the list  :peace:

I've stated in the past that I would prefer less covers.

As far as Chinese Democracy goes, I think it's interesting to hear Slash play them, though I'd prefer they be kept to a minimum.  I can tell you one thing though, as long as Axl is still in the band, Chinese Democracy songs will never leave the setlist entirely.  Axl's perspective is that he fought too hard for too long to get that album out there (not to mention recently admitting he prefers the newer songs), and he isn't about to let it disappear.  In fairness to Axl, I can't blame him for that.

Quite frankly, I'd rather hear the Chinese Democracy material over the covers they've been playing.

You should work for Fox News.......O'Reilly....since you have this survey thing down to a science. If you polled the average fan at these shows, a majority wouldn't even know who Duff McKagan is. Shows this large bring out people who want to hear SCOM...Jungle.....yada yada. Most probably don't even know Estranged.  :-\

I keep checking this thread to hear other reactions/reviews and all I'm seeing is the same stupid set list debates.  I'm sure there's a thread for that somewhere. I understand the discussion but geez... I saw gnr last night and I can honestly say I was completely satisfied with the set list.  Enjoy this tour and stop bitching. Someday we'll have no gnr at all to discuss.

As far as cover songs go to me the only cover song on the list is The Seeker, to me KOHD & Live & Let Die are more synonomus with Guns N Roses then the guys who originally came out with them. the guitar bits that slash & richard do as others have stated give Axl a breather which he is going to need so I honestly don't think there are too many cover songs.

I like Slash as a guitar player better than Bucket... for me it is just a stylistic thing. With Slash you typically get minimal effects, It's basically a mildly modified Les Paul through a pretty basic Marshall Amp. With Bucket there were 1 million effects and kill switches and loopers. With that said I would a agree that 9 times out of 10 I would rather here the guy that wrote the solo play the solo. HOWEVER in this case we have never heard that happen live with Bucket. I do believe that Philly and Boston are 2 of the better live versions of Sorry that I've heard and the previous guys (DJ and Bumble tend to be pretty true to the original source material so I don't know that Bucket would have played it any different that them).

So that was my long winded way of saying Slash plays it better :)

If you guys are talking about Sorry, the main solo is Buckethead. The chorus leads are Bumblefoot's. Robin played rhythm and the accoustic guitar.
