This is really strange for me. I haven't gone this long without listening to Guns N' Roses. When there was all the excitement a couple years back, I couldn't stop listening to my bootleg discs from the shows. I couldn't stop playing Appetite and the Illusions, and Lies.

Even before that, over the years, I would go through periods when I didnt listen, but instead listened to newer music, classic rock, or another genre altogether. But I always came back to Guns. But ever since the aborted 2002 tour, my GNR CD's got less and less play. And more recently, with the departure of Buckethead, I have completely stopped listening altogether. I can't seem to get into it anymore. Its like listening to the music reminds me how sad things have become, instead of just enjoying the music. To put it more simply, GNR music bums me out.

I'm having trouble getting back into Guns N' Roses. I don't even think I will, until something really new and special comes to pass. And if its over, maybe in the future when my daughter is older, I would introduce GNR to her. She's going to learn a lot about music, and the different bands and styles, and certaintly talking about history, GNR had there time.

But as a fan since '88, this bums me out to no end.

Considering I never got out of GNR, i have no trouble getting into them.

Appetite for Destruction hasnt left my cd player in 15 years, and probably never will.  CD Changers rule.

i also stopped listening to GNr after Bh departure because the new GNR as we knew them are now gone. i always had problems with things that  doesn't exist anymore. i have now started my life like Axl said.

Agree-fan since 88 as well-the old music has been played out to me. Now, with Bucket gone and apparently more recording, my excitement for the new band is lukewarm at best. Only an album can pull me out of it-another shitty greatest hits tour is meaningless. Sad

I haven't really gotten out of Guns N' Roses and listening to them, but then again, I draw a bold line between Guns N' Roses and NewGnR. I have had a very tough time getting into the new band, mainly because until they release CD they are just a cover band.....think about it do any of you consider Fred Coury a member of Guns N' Roses? he did play live with them as a fill in member of the band, thats not much less than what Bucket, Brain, Tommy, Robin and Richard have done. If they band were to end now, I don't know how you could make a case that this was ever an official lineup (historicaly)

how did it come to this?

My experience with fading in and out of interest in Gn'R pretty much mirrors what you described. Since Detroit '02, though, when he wandered on-stage an hour late and because of a mess-up with the telepromptor in the middle of "Patience," tossed his microphone in the air and walked away in the middle of the set, I've steadily drifted away. Not that it was Axl's fault that I had subconsciously built him up into some sort of immortal figure, but being so close and seeing him act like such a spoiled brat really burst the bubble.

Since then, I've also become vigilant about noting how other performers react to screw-ups during live shows. Among the bands I follow, I've become convinced that Eddie Vedder is the best front man in the business for, among many other things, the way he reacts to unexpected bumps in the road. Take, for example, the "bootleg" (Pearl Jam fans know why that's in quotes) from the State College, PA show in 2003. Not only is it three discs and 39 songs in length (an impossibly long time for Axl to give his few remaining fans), but Vedder screws up the lyrics to songs two or three times. Each time, rather than throwing a tantrum and marching off-stage, he laughs, the band stops playing for a second so they can get oriented, and then they pick it up right where they left off. The crowd loved it. By the way, it might be worth pointing out, in light of the fact that Gn'R played the same set list each stop of the last tour, that, not only did Pearl Jam play such a long show, they actually stopped and took requests from fans at one point.

Not that this is the only way for a rock band to do things. It's just that so much of what Axl has done in the last 10 years has been the exact opposite of what he should have done, what would have been in the best interests of the band and his music (cooperating with all the former old band members in a mature, adult fashion) and what would have simply been the decent thing to do (honor your committments to the fans who purchased tickets to see you perform).

Once upon a time,  when I was 13 years old, I suppose, Axl's brand of rebellious angst seemed deep and consistent with what I was going through. Now that I'm 25, it just seems tired and pathetic. Grow up, man.

Anyway, my altered feelings and opinions about Axl and the band really came to the forefront of my consciousness when he stomped off-stage so early into the show after making us all wait for so long.

You may have made some valid points, but this is not the thread to discuss this issue. Your post should have ended right after you said "I haven't really gotten out of Guns N' Roses and listening to them."

I was explaining why I haven't gotten out of Guns N' Roses and listening to them. You all give responses like I stopped when bucket quit or something like that.........my reason for why the new band hasn't effected my desicion to listen is because the 'new' band isn't Guns N' Roses in my eyes. Why is that point any less valid than Bucket quit or Axl left the Stage??

I haven't been excited about GNR since the failed tour of '02.
I was listening to boots from that tour daily and had tickets to see them in Dallas.

Since then, I haven't listened to a boot from that tour very often, but still turn the volume up when a GNR tune gets played on the radio.

I'll always listen to AFD when the mood hits me, never much cared for the UYI's and will be hardpressed to listen to anything from the new band until new studio material is released.

Nope, not at all.

GNR is in my car's CD player all the time.

When I am home, I listen to the bootlegs of new band on my computer.

Once in a while, I'll watch a video off WTTV, but I am rarely home.

Old band, new band.......either way the music rocks peace

I only have dips in listening to GNR, but it still rates highest in my ever-growing CD collection.  I got into GNR only about 3 years ago, then become obsessed.  I'll listen to anything with Axl's classic voice, Slash's classic guitar.  I've bought 3 Buckethead albums, bootlegs, videos etc.  I do listen to a lot of other music in between GNR, but GNR are a band I never get tired of.  Actually, the only thing I sometimes get picky about when listening to GNR is the quality of the production/mixing or whatever, but that's another story (I might start a thread about it).  GNR tought me vital lessons in music and developed my ear for what's hot and what's not.  They're still hot.  I admit following this newGNR hasn't all been fun, but the music is still quality.  If you're in 'that' mood, we all know there's no better album than Appetite for Destruction.

I'm still upbeat about the prospect of CD coming out.  No matter what we have or haven't heard, surely the silence = activity in the case of this project.  We've always known that it's been kept secret, and until a member of the band starts giving away info (i.e. songs, release date etc) it must be in the works.

Bhudda_Master, I feel for you (I mean that sincerely).  I know you're really into Buckethead.

Just give it a break for some time, and come back to GNR music later.  It will greet you like an old friend.  Their music is timeless.

I know what you mean about the memories (good & bad) that are tied to the songs, but that cant be helped.  'Just take it for what is'.

I have had some periods of my life with no GnR. Often just for a short "break" but sometimes for a year or more... The trick is "Lies". 1986.
Those four songs helps you remember and get back to GnR.

Anyway, it works for me!

Did Fred Coury even write with gnr? Was Fred Coury ever supposed to be a member of Gnr? Think about it.

That is much less than what the new guys are here for. How are they a cover band? They have been making NEW music in gnr since 98/99. They went on the 2002 tour to get out of the studio and just get themselves thrown out there.

There future plans are to release 3 original albums. There future plans are to tour for each album. How is that not a band? Whether you think axl is cappable of doing somehting liek that is your opinion, but that is the plan.

We know they arent the convential type band in terms of origination. In a perfect world you would love to see nay original band that you love remain an impact for a very long time. But its just not the case. These guys have been a band since 98/99. To me they are a great band and very soon the world will hear their new material and be calling them the greates band in the world. No chance

If anything i am more into GNR than i have ever been.

Every month i find a new fav GNR song, or begin to like a song i hadn't previously.

Its gonna take more than a few cancelled tours and band member changes to get me off GNR.

I guess I'll never stop listening to old GN'R. I always listen when I'm driving a car or playing CM.

And when CD comes out I will perhaps aswell listen to new GN'R continual.
