Oh My God kicks ass! It's better than anything from Velvet Revolver. So far the best band from, ex-gunners are Neurotic Outsiders. But I guess that's Steve Jones's band. To bad they didn't continue thoug, they were fukkin mental Grin

Slither isn't as popular as people think. I dont hear it much at all on the radio. I've heard it a total of 2 times on the radio since its been released as a single. Same goes for the video, besides the Making The Video premeire I've only seen the video 1, maybe 2, times on MTV or VH1. And I watch and listen all the time.

Oh My God kicks ass!!!!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 'OVER PRODUCED'

We're dealing with musicians/producers at the top of their game. If a song sounds a certain way or has a certain amount of effects, etc; IT'S BECAUSE THAT'S HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SOUND.

They didn't make a mistake and 'over produce' the thing.

Someone may personally think they'd like the song more with no effects, etc, but you can not say the song is 'over produced'. Saying that means the song was done incorrectly, the producer fucked up, and the bands sound (which they choose) is wrong.

I don't think anyone here is qualified to say that.

OMG was the first song I heard of the new GN'R tracks, 1/2 year ago, and then I wasn't so impressed about the song, but it grows on me all the time, and now I think its a killer song...
As good, or better than Chinese democracy!!  ok

I haven't heard Contraband but OMG was a great song because it was innovative and had a great feel to it. My only criticism was I felt that the quality of the sound on the EOD soundtrack wasn't great and the overall sound on the song could have been 'clearer'.

That aside, I love the song because its a new style and yet when you listen to it you still know its GNR, yet it doesn't sound like Illusion, AFD or in fact any other rock band. At the time I remember thinking - if this is the sign of things to come, Chinese Democracy will be a very interesting album to listen to (still thinking that! - just a pity that its TAKING SO BLOODY LONG).

But I can't help but think the words 'Oh My God' will be on everyone lips if a release date is announced!

12/02 - msg show - un fuckin real

« Reply #32 on: June 02, 2004, 12:52:37 PM »

Just adding in my opinion:

OMG - kicks ass. but am i thinking that just cuz its Axl? hhmm, not sure. But it does kick ass. I tried to get an "OMG" chant started at msg in '02, but it didn't work. then i kinda felt like a dick chanting Oh My God, alone. LOL but i love this song and i think axl kicks ass on it. some of the "solos" i can do without. the guitar work on the album kinda sucks. not technically, but "hook"-wise. but its axl, and its awesome.

SLITHER - kicks ass. the half-time chorus is excellent. the bridge is cool. the solo is slammin. the intro is fuckin cool. the words are cool. the song is HOT. face it, whether anyone here likes it or not, this band is about to EXPLODE onto the scene. MTV Music Awards this year, i think we can bet on that. live, this is song is even better. they extended the intro and outro in nyc. (they also did the same to set me free) anyway, this songs kicks major ass and is betten written than OMG. OMG is just cool cuz its Axl and Axl is god, and god is..........well, you get the point.

Contraband would sound totally different with Axl, cuz the melodies and lyrics would be different. Axl on-top-of that album's music, wow, the possibilities would have been endless. But Scott's a rock, he's still "cool" by the public's vision, and they are actually RELEASING SHIT and TOURING.....wow, what a fucking concept!!!!!

Yeah, who gives a shit if it is rnr, you need to expand your musical horizons.

I adore Oh My God,

The main riff is as good as any other gnr song - I'd put it up there with COMA as one of GNR's heaviest and meanest.

The chorus is so intense and evil sounding it engulfs my whole person and makes me want to destroy something (something evil or bad - I'm not a psycho).

The solos - Fucking good - like nothing I had ever heard before.

Only slight criticism would be the post chorus bit where AXL is signing 'ohhh if it opens your eyes'. but then again on the RIR 3 version this sounded much better and was probably my favourite part of the song.

To sum this song up I would describe it as TOTAL GUNS N' ROSES, and you can't get much better than that.

Oh My God was the perfect title for that song, he just forgot to put the second half of the title on it......"Did I really release that?" It sounds just like every other industrial/techno type thing that was out there at the time. Hardly revolutionary, I think frankly the major reason we have no album is he scrapped most of what he was working on at the time as OMG as very poorly recieved by the public, and it makes no sense to make music no one is going to buy and listen to.

If I hear the term "over-produced" again, I'm going to slit my wrist. How anyone cannot agree that 'Oh My God' is better than any of the rockers on 'Contraband' is beyond my mind. The so-called 'over-production' in the song actually helps accentuate the aggression, like the screams, the tire-screech, and the like. It's what rock'n'roll is in today's world, get used to it.

Better singing?  What a joke.  It isn't even Axl's real voice, he sang it into some stupid vocal harmonizer.  More dynamic?  It sounds like a bunch of electronic farts to me.
