When all I've got is precious time

« on: July 29, 2004, 03:35:32 PM »

I was talking with the guy over at the "rumor board" and asked him about the VMAs, he said he will do some digging.
Maybe Mysteron can look into this to.

The VMAs are on sunday August 29 and Neither Tommy nor Dizzy have a solo date planned for that day.
We know the rumored month for CD to be released is Nov or early Dec, so do you think Axl could kick off the VMAs with the new single to get things started and the hype started for the  album?

Lets hope they play the VMAs, any thoughts?

Doubt it. That may a one-trick pony that you can only pull once. Dizzy and Toomy may not be playing then, nut they sure as hell will be right in the thick of touring, and probably aren't going to scrap everything just for the VMA's ( I don't think Axl would ask them to). It's a nice thought, but I don't think it's plausible. A commerical or promo for CD may happen, IMO.

How would they scrap anything to play the VMAs? Its just one nite and its an off nite for both of them.? So neither dizzy nor tommy would have to cancel any show.  If im not mistaken mtv wanted gnr back last year too but Axl turned it down.
I am sure MTV has contacted gnrs management about doing this years since they know the album is coming out soon.

No way. MTV will not trot them back out there until they have some kind of music out that is popular and would dictate doing so. The whole shock value with no product thing has been done already.....so I wouldn't count on seeing them again. Also, they will never be able to recapture the magic of 2002 anyway, so MTV is not going to put them out there until there is reason to. 2002 was done as there had been tremendous curiosity as to what Axl had assembled, now people have seen it and are just waiting....which to many people has worn thin, so I don't think we'll be seeing that again.

It's highely unlikely that GN'R play the VMA this year in my opinion. I just don't "feel it". It's too soon, guys, the VMA is only in 1 month! It's too soon for the band. and what will they play? jungle? paradise city? and madagascar?  once again? come on...

The band could play the first single of just play chinese democracy the title track of the album.
And its not too early since last time they played it was on a weeks notice.

As for the VMAs its in FL and i think tommy and dizzy are playing in CA.
But its only  a plane ride there and back.

I see your point, but again there is the question of rehearsal time (which there would be little of). Last time, the VMA thing was bookended between the Eurasia and US mini tours, so the group had some time playing significant live gigs together. The other thing is, why would Axl do it unless Chinese Democracy is ready ? I ddon't think he will make the mistake he did last time of going live without a product in tow....again, the VMA's could play some part in the GNR promotion machine if something is ready, I just don't see a live performance (hope I'm wrong).

I really don't think GNR will play the VMAs this year. And if they do,they definetly won't be a surprise, like two years ago. That would be stupid.People will say:"Oh,it's these guys again. What, they can only play at the VMA's?"  VR are very possible performers, though.

This will probably be the day you see a Chinese Democracy Ad.  Kinda Like the Oh My God soundtrack in 99 but less obscure.  At least, I hope.
