So has anybody seen this long-awaited movie yet? I just got back from seeing it tonight. I had read the first two books and part of the third, but it was only the first one that I really liked. I thought that the movie version was okay, with bits that were brilliant in parts, but it failed to stand as a whole. I think it probably worked better in the original radio show. Mind you, I was entertained by this movie. But it just felt a bit too episodic for the story to stand on its own two feet.

The books were very clever and funny. I doubt the movie will do it justice, but I'll give it a chance.

I've heard that the film is a major letdown.

Years ago there was a short lived tv show of this book(s). Cheap cheap cheap production. Looked like 10 bucks/per episode. BBC I think.

and that was why it was a great series...they seem to have turned marvin the paranoid android into a childrens character...give me the chunky metallic marvin any day
i hope the movie still has the humour of the book and the series...otherwise ill be pissed

I thought the film was really, really terrible.
The only good bit was Bill Bailey as the whale, and Slarty Bartfast, who was really well done. Everything else was exactly what you might expect from a shitty, cliche western remake. Wouldn't it be great if they tried thinking up their own, new ideas for a change?

I saw it this weekend. I havent read the books so I dont know how it compares. I thought the actors gave good performances but the biggest problem with the movie was you couldnt figure out what they were trying to accomplish for the longest damn time. It was good but not great. Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin was probably the only person who actually made me laugh in the whole movie.
I think those reviewers that are comparing this to Monty Python need to go back and watch Life Of Brian and Holy Grail. This movie doesnt even belong in the same breathe as those two.

I liked it, it doesn't compare to the books though.. There were things about it that just didn't work though, 1) they changed the plot to the book (damn you douglas adams for changing your own story so many fucking times) 2) everything was a little too hollywood friendly.
But with the budget they had for it, I thought it was brilliant. Better than a lot of shit movies put out anytime recently.

I hate reading reviews before seeing it, but curiosity got the better of me.
I havent read the series in like 8 years, so I'll be seeing the movie with just some vague memories of intergalactic bypasses and whatnot.
(and to eMe if he reads this thread: yes, I'm coughing up $8.50 to see this flick as well)

this movie was great, by far one of the most entertaining movies ive seen all year... rivals sin city as the most entertaining.... it was witty, funny and made me laugh my ass off, there was no cheap shot to try and get an oscar nod or anything and there was no underlying story, it took me away for an hour and a half and kept me satisfied throughout it. ooooh crazy british people.

I saw it last night. I never read the book previous to this, and both my friend and I who saw the film thought it was nothing short of god-awful. I found it rather boring and was actually thinking about walking out of the theatre and asking for a refund. I would definitely not tell others to watch this movie, that is for sure!!

Seems like it has gotten decent reviews....
I bet the book is better though, it was very clever, and unique. Most times that is lost in a big Hollywood movie as they dumb it down for the masses.

I saw it again yesterday without the distraction of the seven morons who wouldnt shut up last time and really enjoyed the film much more this time. Was much easier to follow without a bunch of jack asses running their mouths.
If you liked these books, check out Bad Omens.
