He said that it ws just the band...Axl was not there.   He didn't see any of them and only heard them for about 30 minutes.

If he didn't see any of the band, then how does he know it was just the band and Axl was not there?

Hearing these guys do Estranged would be soo perfect!!! love

Only if Slash is back. Finck and Fortus might hurt themselves trying to play that one.... and I like Finck and Fortus.

Personally, I love Estranged and think its Slash's best guitar work on UYI II.  But for whatever reason, he never quite nailed it right live.   Slash's playing was just missing something when he attempted to play it live.

For some reason, I see Richard Fortus playing it.   Finck could too.

Maybe he heard no lead vox..

And Axl not being there for rehersals- I can believe that.

That's my point though... if Slash (the author) couldn't even nail it... I don't see Finck or Fortus getting it either... in fact, I think on the Making Fucking Videos Part IV (Estranged) the band talks about only playing it live or in rehearsal w/o a mistake like once or something... I don't think it is good territory for the new band to be treading in... plus who wants the set eaten up by a 12 minute old song when we could be getting more CD tracks played?

Well the thing about music is that it can always be reproduced. Just because Mozart left us 220 years ago does not mean we cannot enjoy his works live.

Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

« Reply #28 on: April 16, 2006, 05:21:11 PM »

Estranged is a very difficult song to play, not because it's technically difficult, but because of the guitar riff timing. You need to concentrate a lot to be in the right timing on guitar.

Buckethead would have no problem nailing any guitar parts laid by Slash, Buckethead's finger length/speed make is sufficient enough to hit just about anything....

Guys, this seems kinda BS... If anyone can just walk by and listen to GNR playing, you'd think people would be camped out at this place to see what they're rehearsing or to see the band.

No disrespect to Slash (whose guitar playing I really enjoy), but Buckethead could play anything by Slash half-sleep.  Whether you like or dislike Buckethead's image, there is no denying his unbelievable command of the guitar.   His versatility is incredible (check out Colma sometime, for instance).

wtf? buckethead doesnt even deserve to tune slash's guitar.
There's only about 5 or 6 guitarists all time better than Slash

umm.... i don't think you've seen these guys play.  I love Slash and all, but if you know anything about playing, Slash really wasn't that amazing a guitarist. He writes really good solo's and IMO is one of the all time best soloists, but BH wipes the floor with slash in terms of precision and technique.

So very true.  Bucket is by far one of the greatest players.  Having said that, Slash is not only great but wrote some of the greatest guitar solos and music ever.  I really can't say that about bucket yet.
