he even referenced him in one of his songs that go something like..

What the fuck does Axl need Earl for? If he could take out someone like Tommy Hillfigger himself, Earl is useless.

dude, a bodyguard wouldn't have stopped that maniac.  my neighbor was working that place that night, and that dude would have shot anyone that got in his way.  he was a homicidal psychopath.  it may have taken him a few seconds longer to get on the stage, but with the chaos, i don't think a bodyguard would have done any good.
