GN'R covering a bunch of "proper English songs" in London in 2006.

Sway (the Rolling Stones), Sailing (Rod Stewart), Back In The USSR (The Beatles)

Very cool selection

Will have to give it a listen!

Really?  You've got to check that one out.  Axl sounds amazing on it.  The other 2 covers were good too, but "Sailing" is fantastic.  I never heard of the song until GNR covered it but they certainly did a great job with it.

Thanks for the link mate, ill give it a listen!

Sailing (Rod Stewart)

or
(Gavin Sutherland)  Tongue

Rod Stewart's version is what I was hearing on the radio when growing up.

Axl neeeeeeeeeeeeeeds to do a studio recording of Sailing, and just release it as a single.

Actually, just use the wembley version, and fix it in in the studio and release it.

The single would go to no1 in a matter of minutes , all around the world.

a bit hard to do a studio version and use the live version...
Ron doing the Robin solo, or Ashba, or Fortus... to complicated.
Just record it put it on album 2 and release it.

if only as a first single (would be cool!)

The song works well. They both have unique raspy voices....Perhaps they can release a version on a soundtrack or benefit album..

Who here agrees with me that GnR should release a version of Sailing, i was at Wembley when they played it it brought the house down amazing and i never really cared for the Rod Stewart version.
It could be new GnRs Knockin on heavens door, a song they truly make there own

Love Robin's guitar (and emotion) during this performance too.

Very true, that guitar solo fitted perfectly with the song.

Would be cool if Axl sang some of this as an intro before they played "Madagascar" - would transition really nicely I think.

Thanks to welshrose for starting this topic - I had forgotten they had covered this in '06...and almost forgot how amazing it sounded.
