How about taking those AC/DC influences and creating a new original sound rather than copying it?

AC/DC should've taken that advice themselves for about 15 years now!  hihi

I'm warming up to the new Killers CD... More songs are starting to stand out after a few more listens.

Tori Amos - A Piano (Box Set)
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (Deluxe Edition)
The Beatles - Love
The Dresden Dolls - Yes Virginia
Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites
Bic Runga - Birds

Great albums:

Tool - 10,000 Days
The Who - Endless Wire
Buckethead - Crime Slunk Scene

Okay albums:

Ian Gillan - Gillan's Inn
Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death

Disappointments:

Slayer - Christ Illusion
Eric Clapton & J.J. Cale - The Road to Escondido
Queensryche - OMII
Joe Satriani - Super Colossal

Overall, I found 2006 to be a bit of a dry year. I'd really been looking forward to a couple of these albums (especially Slayer, Gillan, and 'Ryche), but they just weren't as good as I hoped. The Who album was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting the worst, given that Entwistle and Moon have been replaced, but Daltrey and Townshend surprised me.

Well, to be fair, since Entwhistle and Moon are both dead, replacing them would be the logical thing to do. Unless you want some really lifeless performances... peace

...Or just release it as a Townshend / Daltrey collaboration album. Wink I dunno, I have mixed feelings on them calling themselves The Who when it's just the two of them, but regardless, it's still a great album.

Without a shadow of a doubt....The Racontuers Broken Boy Soldiers is the best...hands down.

I also liked Tool's new one. Pearl Jam was good, and The Chili Peppers had too much filler on Arcadium to call it great, it is a great 1 disc album, an ok 2 disc album

Beck's new album is cool..and Tom Petty's Highway companion has it's moments

Thank you.

Waits is the best of '06. Better than Dylan.

You Tool fans should definitely check out 'In the Absence of Truth' by Isis. Very similar feel to Tool. I actually think it's better than 10 000 days.

Here we go again. It's December....

What's your favorite album(s) of 2006?

My picks:

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam They still rock!

The Twilight Singers - Powder Burns Filled with great songs.

Muse - Black Holes And Revelations

Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad Of The Broken Seas Beautiful mix of two unique voices on one album.

Best re-issue:
Depeche Mode - Violator [remastered] Their best album, now sounding better and with nice bonuses.
