New update to his site, added a really cool gear page with pictures of a ton of his guitars, including a lot you see him use in GNR, like the Fernandes Sustainer (Madagascar)...

Notice how at least two of the Les Paul has killswitch. Maybe because of Buckethead influence...? Wink

Stupid question time.. what is a kill switch?  I play guitar, and I have heard this mentioned alot, but I honestly have no idea what it does.

You can interrupt the tone of the guitar by using the kill switch.  ok

I think Tom Morello is using that one very often too.

Maybe this clears it up a bit further:

There's a prominent example in TWAT.  During the outro where you hear the section that has the "skipping" effects, he's using the kill switch.

In Better, the final part of his shred solo also uses the kill switch

TWAT - 5:16 ~ 5:23

Better - 3:33 ~ 3:36 (you will listen easier in the instrumental version)

IRS - 3:15 ~3:16 and 3:37 ~3:39 (this last one is also easier to listen in the instrumental)

He used that sometimes live, you can see him hitting this button in RIR3 Madagascar solo.

But anyways, Richard is versatile and likes "new" (tho this is not new, but he likes Amplitube, Jellyfish and so on) stuff... It may have nothing to do with Bucket. Tongue

And here you have an pretty extensive example of it, while playing Jordan (one of his own songs):
