An idea for the board

While I respect your desire to keep this board mature, I don't believe that merely punishing people with neg karma, banning, etc., is the way to do it.

You cannot merely suppress anger and hostility, as it will always be there, bubbling under the surface. Here is what I suggest you do; create a new board--an "anything goes" board if you will, were people can bash and insult each other. You can still have the karma point system and the same standards for the other sections, but at this "anything goes" board, anything goes. That way people can get out their hostilities and aggressions else where. Ultimately, I think there will be even less work for you and the other mods, as the cathartic release of the "anything goes" board will take care of people's need to vent.

I used to know a guy who tried this at the camp he ran for the little children. There was sections set up for all the activities, backgammon, video games, a little peaknuckle, all with their own "moderators" and sets of rules.

Then he decided to create a room where the kids had no rules, so they could unwind and just go crazy.

They all murdered each other in that room, and now there is no more camp.

Think about this; just try it for a month and see what happens. I bet you end up doing less work in terms of giving out neg karma/banning.

Well, I'm beginning to think we need a new section - an entire section, all on it's own, completely devoted to which band and which lead singer is better or gayer. Specifically, where everyone can rant, freely, about which version of GnR is better, Axl vs Scott, GnR vs VR.? ?So many topics eventually become that, anyway.? Why ruin every topic with it?? Why not just have an entire section where people can just speak their mind about it, and keep it in one place?  It could be called You're Fuckin' Crazy or Out Ta Get Me or maybe even Don't Cry.? Don't you agree?

It doesn't work. I use to mod at a board that had that kind of section and it just made things worse. The fights in the "anything goes" section will eventually spill over into the rest of the sections creating more work then there would be without the section. In theory it should work, but in practice is a whole other scenario...
