« on: July 04, 2007, 12:09:03 PM »

Japanese promoter Creativeman has announced that the opening act for all five of GUNS N' ROSES' upcoming Japanese dates will be a local band called MUCC.

MUCC (sometimes referred to as 69, which is pronounced "muku" in Japanese) is a Japanese rock band formed in 1997. Supposedly named after a character from the Japanese children's program "Ponkickies", the band has, as of 2007, released seven studio albums, along with several live albums, EPs, singles and DVDs, some of which were also released in Europe.

GUNS N' ROSES / MUCC tour dates:

July 14 - Chiba, Japan - Makuhari Messe
July 15 - Chiba, Japan - Makuhari Messe
July 17 - Nagoya, Japan - Nippon Gaishi Hall
July 18 - Tokyo, Japan - Nippon Budokan
July 21 - Osaka, Japan - Intex Osaka

Dir en grey is Japanese, yes. I'm actually a big fan and they're a bunch of great guys. I'd love to see them live again if they were to ever tour with GN'R...but not likely.

X-Japan are reforming, that would be cool seeing GnR and them share the stage.

It is a kind of interesting to know that people's reaction for MUCC being GnR support is not that bad here... (I am impressed to be honest.)

Reaction of Japanese GnR fans is far from happy as far as I observed.? Inside Japan, MUCC is clearly categorised as 'Visual-Kei' which people here normally associate with otaku young girls wearing gothic lolita dresses....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_kei

Typical GnR fans in Japan are hard rock fans in their 30s - 40s, so it is obvious that there would be some gap in genration between GnR fans and MUCC fans in Japan. I cannot imagine there is any overlapping between them? Grin

I just hope that GnR fans and MUCC fans would not be rude each other in Japan shows and will enjoy different culture...

You know, I've noticed you're right. The few people who I've spoken to who are Japanese or GN'R fans in Japan are generally not too pleased with this. I'm actually a fan of the visual-kei bands, so I'm jealous that I won't be able to see these shows, but I can understand where they're coming from not being a fan of that kind of music, which is admittedly very different.

Guess people there need some updates.
having goth girls at shows is much better than seeing only macho guys in their 30s and 40s in crowds.
GNR never is a gay band.

Wow... You're right, they are reforming...  I've been here in Japan for a number of years and X Japan is one of the only Japanese bands that I ever really got into.

I would love to hear GN'R do a cover of "Forever Love" (the language barrier might be a problem though)...

Here is a very emotional version of "Forever Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL-wk-yw76I from their last ever concert. Pretty sad knowing that Hide (the lead guitarist) would commit suicide just a couple of months after this.

I saw MUCC here in Finland a few weeks back.. Not one of my favourites, but a really nice band and turned out to be a great way to open a festival..
