I know Robin is still officially in the band

Which band is he officially in, according to you?

Hint: It's not GN'R.

On the other hand, he's part of GN'R history and he's part of the group of people who made the album.

I know Robin is still officially in the band (...)
No, Robin isn't in the band anymore.

DJ Ashba or Robin Finck?  What do you guys think?
I don't think it changes anything. Whatever, whoever, really.

I saw the band in 2006 and to me the 2 guys who made the show were Axl and Richard. They are the 2 Stars of the band onstage. I don't want to bash Robin, he did an awesome job on the record, but I don't really have a good memory of him during the show. He fucked up A LOT of his Lead solos, especially November Rain (second solo).

However, Robin was a close friend of Tommy, Richard and Dizzy. They all lost a friend in the band. Axl shouldn't under estimate that.

Duff can't "open" for GN'R : it's his band.

Robin at RIR 3 looked like most Marilyn Manson / NIN fans back then.

robin in RIR3 looked WEIRD
ashba in 2009 looks POSER

That's a very good point.
Robin may have had different looks, but it was always a very honest look, either as a goth mummy with a half shaved head or a hobo look wearing a plastic bag onstage (that was cool as hell when I saw him)

Dj does look like a poser, and it's not glam or goth, its more like EMO-twilight bullshit.

DJ's look is far less out there than Robin's look in 2002.  THAT was ridiculous.  Not to mention Buckethead's look.  Are we really complaining about image?  That 2002 lineup was all over the place as far as image goes.  Maybe they should wear masks like Slipknot, or costumes like Gwar.  That way no ONE person would look weird.

I guess it's just a personal preference than.  Personally I much prefer DJ's look to Robin's 2002 look.  And who are we to tell them how to dress or look anyway?  If that's how he wants to dress than that's fine with me, as long as it doesn't hinder him from playing the guitar.  If it bothers you so much, when/if you see them live, just don't look at DJ.

i think after all saying image doesnt matter is being hypocrite
it is a matter of appreciation, everyone has his favorites

if it wasnt like that, we shouldnt have "the axl clothes thread", or in 2003-2005 era the eternal question to the supposly insiders "does axl still have the braids".. or what about the classics: "brain looks like a rapper.. he shouldnt be in GNR", "Buckethead looks like robotic turd with the mask and the bucket.. he must a be a geek" and "robin looks horrible, GNR shouldnt have a guitaists that plays slash's solos with that haircut... he is so friggin industrial"  Roll Eyes

i like ashba guitar style, the BC record is one of the most rockin guitar cool records of this decade and when i heard the rumors about he auditioning in GNR.. i thought that he was the indicate.. but i really dont like his look, i dont like the whole glammy, modern, hot topic-ish, overblown appearance in his guitars and clothes.. i have always hated the way that motley crue guys have dressed in the last years, and he looks exactly the same and just because he is in GNR i wont change my mind

Can't understand how you guys can bitch about Dj Ashba's look after these :

Not to mention Slash still smoking while he plays after all these years because he's soooo rocknroll and laidback and because it's so cooool and who has become a caricature of himself both in his guitar playing and attitude.

We haven't even seen DJ with GNR yet.  How do we know he won't get plastic surgery and don a tophat when they hit the stage?

i was thinking the same thing, it's hard to comment on someone's live performance when he hasn't performed live with the band yet.......it's probably best to wait till he actually plays with the band before complimenting or criticising the guy beer

I think, deep down, the real problem is : the link with Motley Crue.

It has repercussions on his playing, his style and his looks, probably his IQ too, but I wont get ahead of myself.

My bad.  I know he's in NIN, but I didnt know he was completely out of the band.  I guess I was hoping that he would come back around at some point.  looking at the song credits on chinez, he plays on all 14 songs i think, and has about 6 or 7 solo's. people like continuity in bands, and I'm just disappointed that the guitarist who played arguably the largest role on the album, and is a big part of their sound and identity on the album, doesnt want to be in the band.
