Here to hell, gone today....

From Duff McKagan's twitter today:

"I'm gonna try and release 'Beautiful Disease' somehow.....some way." - http://twitter.com/#!/DuffMckagan64

That would be really great. Maybe a little fresh mixing would be funny. At least on "Rain" wich has a weird cut in the middle of the song....Anyway, great intentions by Duff

I don't know if there's any complication now, but when it was supposed to be released (in '98?), the record company who were supposed to release it was taken over by another record company (Geffen was taken over by Interscope?, I don't remember the details), and there was a "clean-up" in their line of artist (out with the old, in with some new), and unfortunately they didn't wanna release BD. And after that I guess it got to expensive to release it on his own, and there weren't any record companies showing interest in the album at that time. Now, that time has moved, I guess it's easier to put out records without having a major record company in the back....

PS. This is how i remember it. Some facts might be wrong....

You are dead on with the take over.  Interscope absorbed Geffen along with other big labels such as A&M.  A friend of mine was actually part of this and lost his job at A&M studios on Le Brea Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Interscope own the rights to the album, and last I heard were asking a ridiculous amount to buy them despite not having any plans to ever let it see the light of day. The original idea behind Loaded was to re-record the album so he could put the songs out, but in the meantime he wrote more songs, so only a couple of songs from the 'Beautiful Disease' made it onto the album that became 'Dark Days'. I guess Duff's decided it might be worth paying to get his record back, which is great news.

Serious fans would want an actual physical copy of it, though. The Perfect album, 'Once, Twice, Three Times A Maybe' was already available in its original form when it was released, but I appreciated being able to actually buy it and contribute.

This news is exciting. But only if it is better than the LOADED music.

It's pretty much on a par with that (I'm married to someone who managed to get her hands on a promotional copy and spearheaded a campaign to get Geffen to release it a few years back). It really showed Duff's growing confidence as an artist outside of a big band, and is a major improvement on the patchy 'Believe In Me'. The mp3's are out there somewhere, too.

It's the physical copy I dream of. I've seen how the album-cover was intended to look like, and I got the songs, but I've always wished it was released. And yes, it's nice to contribute the old fashion way when there's some good music, and to hold the cover in the hands.....

Sleeper: As AxlReznor points out, it is early Loaded. Episode 99 Live is the touring of BD. Some fine songwriting in there indeed.

I hope it gets released. I have mp3s of some of the tracks and it's some of Duff's finest songwriting ever recorded.

Much better than the jumbled drunken mess that was Believe In Me.
