The 1st song is awesome, the 3rd is really good as well....I gotta say I'm pretty surprised....

Why the hell would that guy be mucking around as a GN'R fill in if he's got his own songs like that going on ????

from what i know... mank Rage, as a band, has been in self-imposed exile from the music scene for a number of years, due to circumstances beyond their control... does the posting of these demo-tracks mark a return?... we shall see

Was Shannon Hoon in the band, if so when?

Title: Re: Mank Rage
Post by: mank Rager on July 07, 2006, 10:02:12 PM
from "what i've heard:..." it was in the late 80's, in between hoon's successful copy tune bar band breaking up and his leaving indiana for california, that he was briefly with mank Rage... after years singing copy tunes he stepped into mank Rage, who did all originals, and seemed to be in a phase of "finding his own voice" (which he did later with blind melon...and what a band that made!... what a shame about his death... shannon was so very talented)
hoon's time with mank Rage never went beyond rehearsing and partying... more time partying than rehearsing it would seem... and there are no recordings.
(side note): it was during this time that lank introduced hoon to axl...

Axl seemed to produce them, actually. Do you know what happened with this, and are they still going with a similar game plan?

mank Rage are working towards making their CD available. Who you say?

mank Rage include Dave Lank (co-writer of Don't Damn Me) and Paul "Huge" Tobias (co-writer of Back Off Bitch, Oh My God). The CD is co-produced by the band (mank Rage), Axl and Tim Gedemeer.

The songs on the CD were recorded quite some time ago, but the band feels the music stands the test of time and is still as relevant today as it was when recorded

They are also trying to put together a website where you can download some songs.

Sounds pretty ordinary to me. I'm not a great fan of Paul 'Yoko' Huge anyways, so maybe Im biased.

With Axl producing it, no wonder it never got released:

'Axl mate, hows it coming along, when do you think you'll be finished'?

'Probably 2013, just gonna stick some disco beats on it first'.

i think what rockiesgirl is trying to get across is that each of the artists she has named had/has a unique "voice" in their words, a stamp of individuality on their words, and a talent of artistic expression with their words...each had a personal connection with their audience.
in rockiegirls opinion, lank shares these qualities as a writer. i am sure that when lank reads this he will be blushing at the compliment and great honor of being compared to these greats of writing, and saying, thank you for your opinion, rockiesgirl.

Someone has posted the lyrics to a couple songs on the MySpace page.

You can hear the songs at www.mankrage.net (http://www.mankrage.net)

Lyrics for "Its funny 'demo"?

YOU MIGHT THINK ITS FUNNY
YOU MIGHT THINK ITS SAD
THE SKY MIGHT FEEL SUNNY
ON THE DAY YOU GO MAD
YOU MIGHT DRINK IN DEEPLY
THE LIMELIGHT OF YOUR LIFE
DAWN MAY FIND YOU WEEPING, CHILD
DRUNK ON ANGELS WINE
ITS GONNA BE ALRIGHT
ITS GONNA BE OKAY
WE'LL MAKE IT THROUGH THIS NIGHT
ITS GONNA BE ALRIGHT
YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD A NOTION
A 'WHAT IF?' GLIMPSE OF TRUE
YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE CHOSEN
BECAUSE THE CHOICE HAS BEEN MADE FOR YOU
CAN YOU CLAIM TO BE THAT RICH MAN?
CAN YOU BLAME THE COMMON THIEF?
YOU MIGHT THINK LIFES A BITCH, MAN
BUT DON'T YOU COME BITCHING TO ME

{chorus}
....WHATCHYA GOT TO BITCH ABOUT TODAY?
....WHATCHYA GOT TO MOPE ABOUT TODAY?
....WHY DO YOU CALL YOUR LIFE A SHAME?
THE BEACH IS ALWAYS GONNA BE SANDY
EVEN WHEN THE TIDE IS HIGH
EACH GRAIN IS UNDERSTANDING
IN GODS HOURGLASS OF LIFE
SO IF YOU FIND IT SLIPPING THROUGH YOUR HANDS
YOU'D BETTER CATCH THAT GRIP AND HOLD ON TIGHT
LETS LAST, AT LEAST, TO LAUGH MADLY
AS DRUNKEN ANGELS IN DAWNS LIGHT

Lyrics for "makes no sense ' demo"?

I'd like to state something about hate
if you do then you're its slave
whats with this land man killing man
filling in our futures grave
take a little trip down to the river get down on your knees
the waters calm and peace reflects
the ignorance we breed
its dirtier than hell...America the beautiful
makes no sense to me
makes no sense to me
makes no sense to me ......
I'd like to teach the world to sing in a perfect harmony
I'd like to set this whole world straight
a better place could be
take a little dive down in the gutter
go swim in some concrete
can ya climb out of there without a broken back
and one shred of dignity?
its so like us humans being...united in destruction
its dirtier than hell
makes no sense to me
makes no sense to me
makes no sense to me ......
...................................... not enough peace and love

Humble Song

THERE COMES A TIME FOR BEING THANKFUL
THERE COMES A TIME FOR KEEPING ON
AND WHAT I GOT, IT AINT ALOT
BUT ITS MINE AND IT KEEPS ME STRONG
I SAID I GOT SOME GOOD FRIENDS
AND PRIDE ENOUGH TO CLAIM THEM
THROUGH TENDER TIMES TOGETHER
AND TIMES OF RECKLESS FUN
AND I LIKE THE ROOF I'M KEEPING OVER MY HEAD
MY CHEAP STEREO, MY WORN OUT QUEEN-SIZE BED
THAKFUL FOR WHATS MINE-THATS ME
I'M BETTER OFF ALIVE THEN I EVER COULD BE DEAD
THROUGH TENDER TIMES TOGETHER
AND TIMES OF RECKLESS FUN
AND I LIKE MY JOB, I DON'T MIND ITS 9 TO 5
ITS AN OCCUPATION JUST LIKE KEEPING US ALIVE
THANKFUL FOR WHATS MINE-THATS ME
I'M BETTER LIVING RIGHT UNTIL MY TIME ARRIVES
..YEAH, I'M GETTING ON WITH IT NOW

THANKFUL FOR WHO I'AM
THOUGH SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO ME
EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US MISSUNDERSTANDS
I HAVE MEMORIES THAT ARE ONLY MINE TO SEE
MY PICTURES OF PERFECT, PLACID PRIVACY
IMPORTANT TO ONLY ME....AND THEN I'M HUMBLE
AND I LIKE THE RAIN, YES, AND REMEMBER LOVE
I LIKE THE BLUES, AND THE GOOD LORD ABOVE
THANKFUL FOR THE TIME THATS MINE, ALL MINE
EACH AND EVERY MOMENT FILLED WITH ALL THIS PEACE
AND EVERY ONE OF THESE POETIC LINES
...I'M HUMBLE
MY OLD MAN, HE LISTENS UP THERE NOW
TO A SONG OF A HUMBLE SON
WITH THE KINGDOM COME, MY WILLS UNDONE
IN MY WORLD AS IT IS IN HEAVEN

no... i am not your question dodger... i have not recieved your questions... please re-post... and by the way, why do you assume i am a guy?
I may know who you are.  If so I've partied with you quite a few times in Lafayette around 1990 or 91 I believe.  I'd forgotten about those times until tonight when watching the "Heavy" (origins of heavy metal) 4 part series on VH-1 which of course included some G'n'R.  The show made me search for Axl and see what's up with him and then I saw Mank Rage on a website and it all came back to me.  The early 90's were mostly a blur as I was drunk quite a bit.  I wish I knew then what I do know as there was some history there that I just drank through.  I did pull the Lafayette to Southern California move like Axl, Izzy, and Dave among other but not for music, I'm talentless there.  Hope to get a response one way or another.

flavors of entwhistle, and also, slight
shades of townshend on the guitar strumming

who is this person? Dave's gf or something? kinda odd to get an email like that is all does she run the myspace page or something? trying to get more fans for MankRage :-\

Title: Re: Mank Rage
Post by: snooze72 on October 14, 2006, 06:51:32 AM
That is interesting because? Why? We already know that Paul contibuted to CD. We already know that Paul does studio work for GNR. Y'all act like this is earth shattering news.

That IS very interesting.?

We know that Paul DID contribute to the CD and that he DID studio work for GNR.? Many sources seem to think that he was turfed from the band and no longer had any involvement.? ?His supporters were saying that he was still close to Axl, and the press release issued said his departure was a touring thing, but I didn't know who to believe.? Having the Mank Rage fanclub here publicly state that he's CONTINUING to work in the studio says a lot.?

And yes, this is obviously a concerted effort by these few people in this thread to promote the band, but that's great.? Anybody connected to Guns N' Roses has to deal with the double-edged promotion sword.? ?The connection means notoriety -- the media wants to talk to them -- but they can't talk to them without risking the wrath of Axl.? ?Poor Paul doesn't have many options when it comes to defending himself, and he and Dave don't have a lot of options when it comes to promoting their own music.

Ditto with most of the other players, producers, etc..? Working with GNR would have been a great stepping stone in the logical progression of their careers (which isn't taking 'unfair advantage'), it must really put a damper on things to have to keep everything so secret.

Kinda selfish, really.?

Title: Re: Mank Rage

So what - they have friends promoting them... the problem with this is?? ????

I never said I had a problem with it.? Someone asked me who you were, and I explained.
I did as was asked and deleted all of my posts on the matter out of respect.? But that doesn't mean I understand what it is the band got so upset about.? You shared the information freely - information that we didn't have before, and I thought it was interesting enough to share.? If there was some highly confidential information about the album on there, I would have kept it to myself, but posting the fact that someone we thought had left the project four years ago is still part of it I didn't think was taking advantage at all.

It's just something you're going to have to deal with when your promotion of this band involves singling out Guns N' Roses fans, I'm afraid.

Title: Re: Mank Rage

I did as was asked and deleted all of my posts on the matter

Oh, you got one of those 'terse' little uppity notes too?? ?:hihi:

I really hate control freaks.? And it's one thing to have a 'veil of secrecy' around GNR, and maybe around Mank Rage... but around the Mank Rage fan club?? That's annoying.

I can't find the original post here... deleted?

Anyway, I don't think it's secret that Tobias could still be involved. Why wouldn't he be? He was part of this, he's been friends with Axl since the 70s, and he would probably like to see it happen about as much as Axl. If he has also written stuff for it, I can't see why Axl would fire him and then lie about it.

No, I think Tobias in some way is still involved. Only thing that doesn't make sense then is that he has not been seen with the band on tour. But that could be explained by him not wanting to be in the spotlight.

i was recruited at one time to help a junkie come off of heroin. i locked myself and her up in a secluded location where she had no access to the crap for 10 days. it wasn't pretty, to say the least. definitely an interesting life experience. made me glad that i never tried the stuff. paul's guitar work in JUNK, especially the lead section, qualify that song as being a soundtrack to the withdrawals and torment i witnessed in that 10 days. after the 10 days were up i went back to my own life and she went back out to the junk... oh well... i tried. last i heard of her was a couple of years later. i heard she contracted AIDS, probably from a dirty needle or from one of the people she was having sex with to obtain the drug or money for the drug... i heard she killed herself in new york. she was around 30 years old...sad. "... nothing ever lasts for the junkie..."

I think he wasn't big on the whole touring and playing in front of huge crowds.   I thought that was pretty much always the case and that Paul was there as a friend to Axl helping him get the band back out there.

Mank Rage   'After All'

everybody's gotta' learn now
how to fall down
everybody's gotta' learn
to cope with their pain
everybody looking
for their easy way out...
hoping they find it
hoping they find it
before looking's
gonna' drive them insane...

am i the same?

i remember long ago
so many things i wanted to know
and i learned, yes, you learn in time
your lessons are yours
and mine are mine

after all
they're the facts of life

i discovered truth is truth
and i learned to love life
with my passing youth
i realized as each day passed by
the lessons don't end
'til the day we die

don'tcha know
it's the facts of life
wrong is wrong
right is right
black is black
white is white
your "abc's"
and
your "123's"
spelling out
life's numerous
"way it should be's"

after all

take your time
and pass it along
it's all we got
and life's moving on

after all

mama told me once
and
my daddy told me twice
and i never listened
to a bit of advice
i says "hey man...
back off!...
let me live my life
the way i want to
let me live
let me live and learn..."

don'tcha know
it's the facts of life

we have our lives
just as
that great big mighty man Jesus did
we all wear crowns, yes
each thorn formed
by every damned thing
we ever done and said
best to learn now
how to be kind
what's yours is yours
what's mine is mine
do unto me
as i do unto you
and let's pray the lesson
don't end too soon

(chorus)

after all

(c)2006

"The Rage Cage"

"It was my mothers house on the corner of 10th and North street in Lafayette. We practiced in the basement. It was pretty small but it started to turn into the biggest party in town once word got out. In its prime, there would be a few hundred people in and out of there on a Friday or Saturday night. It has grown into this big, legendary sort of thing. If all the people that claim to have been there were actually there, then your talking, like the whole town and then some. My poor mom has ringing in her ears because of it. It was real and raw. We were not faking anything and it came through in the music. Shannon Hoon claimed it opened his eyes to what music was all about. Axl was in town and came down to see us play, but Lank had broken his arm skateboarding the day before"

- Darren Mickler on the RAGE Cage

I actually know a lot about this band.

This girl I used to date's dad was a guitarist in mank rage.

I don't quite remember his name... lol

He was a guitarist in the early nineties. I kinda didn't believe him. He was a dude that was good at guitar that collected amps and guitars like crazy.

He showed me a video of this band and he was in it. It was a farm setting. With a stage in front of a barn with about 800 people there. David Lank and this guy were clearly visible in this band.

he said nothing ever because of it and he quit the band.

The girl lived with her dad in Crawfordsville, IN.

Which is 25 minutes from Lafayette.

So I thought that was very very cool.

He even told me a story once, and said that Axl Rose sent David Lank a brand new electric guitar once as a present. And once night David got on drugs real bad and used it like a chopping axe and snapped it.

He said that David was always jealous of Axl... (they were friend because Axl left for LA)

Pretty cool story! He also said he met Axl in 87  i think. He just stopped by a place they all hung out in Lafayette before Appetite really blew up. He didn't say, he said Axl was always on the move.

Dave sang and played guitar. Matt Dutton took over lead vocals for awhile. Matt killed himself at the age of 22. It was a very traumatic experience for the band, ...he was a brother. Mank Rage had a song called 'Foolish suicide' that Matt used to sing(insert irony here). Dave went back to vocals and guitar until Mike Staggs took over guitar duties and Dave sang. Staggs left and Dave was back to guitar and vocals until Shannon Hoon joined. Shannon sang and Dave was on guitar until Shannon left for L.A. Lank and Mickler visited Paul in L.A. and told him they were moving west and he was going to be their guitarist. They booked some gigs in Lafayette to pay for the move and got Jeff Hampton(RIP)to play guitar. Jeff was a great guy and shredded the guitar, but was in a very different place musically. It was known to him from the start that he was temporary. When Lank and Mickler got together with Paul everything fell into place.

He was a guitarist in the early nineties. I kinda didn't believe him. He was a dude that was good at guitar that collected amps and guitars like crazy. He had like 10 guitars or something, all very nice. and tons of amps etc..

He showed me a video of this band and he was in it. It was a farm setting. With a stage in front of a barn with about 800 people there. David Lank and this guy were clearly visible in this band. It was really cool. he said he was only in the band for a few months then he left. I believe he was in the band somewhere around the 1990 or 1991 point.

he said nothing ever came out of the band and he quit

The girl lived with her dad in Crawfordsville, IN.

He even told me a story once, and said that Axl Rose sent David Lank a brand new electric guitar once as a present. And once night David got on drugs real bad and used it like a chopping axe and snapped it. he was there when this happened, so it must of been around the 90-91 time or so.

He said that David was always jealous of Axl... (they were friends before Axl left for LA) he also stated they kept in contact on and off again over the years, less so when Gn'R got really big.

Pretty cool story! He also said he met Axl in 87. He just stopped by a place they all hung out in Lafayette before Appetite really blew up. He didn't stay long, he said Axl was always on the move.

I totally believe this dude. It's been 10 years since I had this conversation, I edited my post from forever ago.

I wish I could find all members of Mank Rage former and present somewhere!!!!

I truly had no idea what you meant with that since as far as anyone could see, you didn't edit anything (especially not "forever ago" since you just posted it).

I went back to the original thread that I remember posting in years ago. I did it for you to see that there already was a thread with some fans and you might be interrested what they had said before you. You said that you wanted to find members of the band, I figured maybe you could try and contact someone in that thread. It was a nice thing to do but then I and stumbled upon your original post.

You copied it and added those lines at the end.

I have no idea why you're so defensive. I haven't been offensive to you other than that sarcastic "bravo" which came after you had called me a "tryhard", a "huge post prick" and a "smart ass". Now you're calling me an idiot as well. Trust me, I'm not the one who looks and acts like an idiot in our little debate.

It seems that you really are insecure about your post count (what?!). Feels like you want to feel important so you ignored the old topic, ignored the fact that no one cared back then so you yet started a new topic 6 years later, trying to brag but it backfired. One could say that you're the one that tries too hard.

I haven't hijacked this thead, you did that yourself with the 'tude ,dude.  : ok:

If you know something about the band, please share.

Anyone else heard these?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13yKr79_bc4

The lineup is:

Dave Lank - vocals
Paul Huge/Tobias - Guitars
Johnny Evans- drums
Darren Mickler- bass

Dave Lank, as some know, was a big contributor to the UYI records, and Paul Huge we all know. I've read these demos were recorded around 1993/1994 and produced by Axl as a favor to his friends....And as they're the only stuff which features Paul's guitar work alone, it's a good insight into his talent as a guitar player. I actually think outside of Lank's singing, they're a great band, and I wish their album had come out. Paul's playing is the right mix of bluesy and alt rock to have been perfectly contemporary in the mid 1990s.

I wish this had come out in some official way. I rather like his playing. I don't like the singer, but he had a lot of potential. I wish the new band had just been Axl, Paul, Robin, Tommy, Josh and Dizzy. Stripped down and we could've gotten a better feel of both guitar players' sounds.
