Title: Family Guy!!!
Post by: Gunner80 on April 18, 2004, 04:10:30 PM
Fueled by DVD sales and strong ratings for it's reruns, the animated series "Family Guy" is going back into production - more than two years after the last episode aired. Fox, which had the series originally, has an option to license the original run of episodes - at least 22 will be produced. the show's current home, Cartoon Network, will get them in early 2005. "I'm just incredibly excited that we're back in business on 'Family Guy' " creator Seth Macfarlane said.

Man I love family Guy, and can't wait for the new episodes to air.

Few series in history have fluctuated more in consistency than Family guy which ranged from side splittingly funny.....to television so poor u were embarrased to be seen watching it

The third season sunk to some of the lowest lows in television history......

If it comes back then i suppose thats...good, but after the last lot i watched.....well......

that show is so borderline...its hilarious, just watched the episode where peter gets a gun, and they're showing ads for it where the gun is talking to the child "hold me, i make bad people go away"

"guns don't kill people, minorities do", haha, so low, love it

rock n' roll

Curb's better than Seinfeld <middle finger emoticon>

Anyway, that's great news!  They've been been talking about it for awhile... it's about time!  Now we just need Futurama back and maybe I'll start watching FOX again.

Plot Outline: Based on the popular series, the movie follows the dysfunctional Griffin family, in which the young domination-bent baby, Stewie, searches for his real father.

I love this show it's so funny, it is ten times better than The Simpsons.  I had no idea they were doing a film, it better be good, are there still plans for a new TV Series as well?

What's with this "american dad" series? That looked like exact copy of family guy the same kind of drawing and the same kind humour. Is that created by McFairlane?

Izzy, Family Guy has been pretty damn consistent...until the introduction of the nerdy red-headed dude whose voice is such a rip-off of a Jerky Boys voice it's not even funny.

"Lois, I know where you're headed, and I'm semi-there!"  (Quagmire rocks!)

Favorite episode by far is the womeen's lib. episode with guest voice Candice Bergen.

I've got the dvd's and the narration by the voices of Peter and Lois are AWESOME!  Hearin' them drop f bombs makes my day. :)

I haven't seen American Dad yet, but I've heard luke-warm reviews.

As far as animated series go, Family Guy is alright but doesn't come close to the best years of The Simpsons.? Futurama always sucked.

Family Guy, now theres a name I never thought I'd hear again. Back in the day though the Simpsons was better, it was funny without being controversial, now it's just not funny. This is good news for animated comedy though? :)

The Simpsons?

Yeah, obviously their best years were the earlier ones.? The series, in my opinion, began it's long decline around '97 or '98.? But being as the series began in 1990, if I"m not mistaken, that's 7-8 years of some of the best TV ever made.? And whether you watch 'em as re-runs or go buy the DVD's, they never get old.?

Same goes for the early and mid-seasons of Seinfeld.

How many shows out there today, or ever for that matter, can you say that about?

New eps start in May.  They're currently replaying the first seasons (which a LOT of people missed, due to Fox playing the bouncing time slot game when the series initially aired) here in the States.

argh the 4th season!

I thought the show hit a slide in the 3rd season - but its going downhill faster than Metallica's credibility

Its just endless - ENDLESS - reference to Americanisms - i dont know who these people are! Do Americans know who half the people they mention are? I'd need to spend a month reading through american celebrity magazines before watching an episode to get anything from the 4th season

I can understand Americans enjoying it - they must know who these people are - but for the rest of us, its a bit like if a british show started talking about Peter Andre - see, you have no idea who that is :P

There is NO re-watch value in this show at all.  I watched the latest DVD set all the way through and haven't touched it since... it was hilarious the first time through.

The Simpsons and Seinfeld still make me laugh on the 50th watch.

I'll always love The Simpsons more (particularly series 1 - 7 or so), but Family Guy is good value as well.

Peter: If you could be stranded on a desert island with any woman in the world, who would it be?
Quagmire: Taylor Hanson.
Joe Swanson: ...Taylor Hanson is a guy.
Quagmire: You guys are yankin' me. "Hey, let's put one over on Quagmire."
Peter: No, he's actually a guy, Quagmire.
Quagmire: What? That's insane. That's impossible.
[Pause]
Quagmire: Oh God. Oh my God. I've got all these magazines. Oh God.

I totally disagree with you on Family Guy.  I think it is very clever...with a noticeable dip last season in overall quality which I hope is an anomaly.  I can watch episodes like the sexual harassment one with Gloria Ironbox all day long!

Which, coming from you, completely reinforces what I was hinting at - The Simpsons is the best of the bunch.

Simply put, it has a higher replay value than the rest. And that's the hallmark of art with a higher standard.

But doing away with my personal jab towards you, my informed statement, and my snobbishly elitist point of view, it all still comes back to personal taste.

Kind of like it's popular to say George Washington was our first president, because it's true. I was the biggest Simpsons mark back in the day, shit it got me through some dark timess. But it's gotten so bad that I only caught one episode last season because I wanted to kill some time before Sopranos.

And I'd love it if the movie made me love the show again, it'd make me feel so young again.

I think The Simpsons has gone downhill because none of the episodes are 'normal' anymore. When the series was good, average things happened to the characters, but now, with the constant celebrity appearances in the show, the stupid, unrealistic storylines, it's just a bit too out there, at least that's my opinion.

Nothing will ever top the episode where Homer has to return to college.

"Hey! Did you get a load of the nerd?!"
"Excuse me?"

Oh HELL NO.

I am a Simpsons devotee... I'm pathetically addicted, I can quote a show from beginning to end... it is my favourite show of all time, and I personally think it's an insult to compare Family Guy to The Simpsons.

However, I do believe the standard has gone down in the past few years. I would prefer to see more 'normal' storylines. No special celebrity appearances, no travelling to foreign countries... a bit more realism (well, as realistic as you can get in a cartoon series!)

Nerd: Come on, Mr. Simpson, you'll never pass this course if you don't know the periodic table.
Homer: Ehh, I'll write it on my hand.
Nerd 1: Ho!  Including all known lanthanides and actinides?  Ha, ha! Good luck.

The Simpsons at its peak is easily the finest animated show ever, and surely in the top 5 best shows ever

It really hit a dip for a good 5 years, but of late it seems to be getting better

Family guy really does have no replay value - the Simpsons however is infinietly watchable - hell, i must have seen 90% of the episodes atleast 100 times

well since there are 378 episodes of the simpsons and 90% would be around 340.. and you have seen those at least 100 times.. that would be over 34000 episodes of the simpsons.. pretty impressive, do you have a life outside of that show?.. since every episode is around half an hour 34000/2=17000 hours.. i maybe wrong now.. but that would be around 708 days in a row, 24 hours a day only watching the simpsons...

maybe i have made a few wrongs in this.. but it's around there : ok:

its not just random references to pop culture. and even if it was why wouldnt that be funny?

B/c its not clever and has nothing to do with the plot.  Its like the south park show says, they just randomly pick pop culture characters, put them in stupid settings and show a flashback or something.  Watch the south park "cartoon wars" two parter.  The family guy jokes scenes they have are JUST LIKE the ones in the show - it makes you realize how dumb it really is.

I mean, come on, the writers are Manatees!! haha  :hihi:

South Park is the best of the three (fam guy, simpsons, south park) right now.  Its scathing satire of current events is not only hysterical, but also very poignant.  I love how something can happen in the world and then 3 days later its on the show.

The simpsons back in the day was unbeatable, but it really hasn't been funny in a very long time.  And thats not "popular" to say, its just true.  Still a good show when compared to half the other crap on TV, but its def not as funny as it used to be.

I love Family Guy.... it rocks!
Whenever I don't like something, I like to find it to be shallow and pedantic... :hihi:
And this bit:

Peter and Lois and Chris are standing in the living room naked and showing Meg (still clothed) that they're not anti-nudists
Quagmire: Hey Peter can I borrow... *sees Lois naked* Ooihhhraahhh!! um... can I borrow a towel?

I still love the Simpsons though, I can't believe they've used WTTJ in it so many times!

Futurama... well, that I always liked just for its randomness and because seemingly anything is possible in that show... which automatically makes it cool!

Title: Re: Family Guy!!!

I loved Futurama, it showed Groening still had "it." What made the show great in my eyes is that it had heart (which the Simpsons lost long ago). The episode where Fry learns about his brothers life after he was frozen was moving, and the end of the Dog episode still stands as the saddest thing I have ever seen on TV.? :'( There's no shame in it brahs...

I did try to work out the time i'd spent watching the simpsons - and that figure of 100 viewings per epsiode is no joke either - each episode viewed 10 times a year - for well over a decade....

and no, i have no life outside the simpsons :-X
the Simpsons however is infinietly watchable - hell, i must have seen 90% of the episodes atleast 100 times

The man exaggerated to make his point. And I doubt a mathematical breakdown was needed in order to make that obvious...

actully no - i was telling the truth....

Its always on just as i get back from work, and even after so many viewings so many episodes are still pure gold

My sole claim to fame in life is an ability to identify an episode within 10 seconds of it beginning

me sad? Well obviously - otherwise i wouldn't be on a gnr message board :hihi:

the simpsons used to be on sky for something in the region of 23 hours per week for a good for or five years. I often watched all of them. Thats 46 episodes a week. Often (6 or 7 times a year) they would spend entire days or weekends showing it too.

I think izzy's figure is probably a bit exagerated but certainly not impossible. I'd say i've seen the first 250 or so episodes on average atleast 30 or 40 times each. Spread out over nearly fifteen years of watching it may actually be more.

When season 4 started in the US a mate of mine downloaded the episodes weekly coz we didnt get it here in australia for ages after it started. Anyway when the season 4 dvd was released it was only half the episodes. The next dvd comes out here next month with the rest of the episodes so is that called season 5 or 4 part 2? anyone know?
