This is the only shop I found where you can order it online I think.

Since I am from Europe I can't tell you how it works exactly.

I hope it helped a little bit.

EDIT:

This one in NJ is not an online shop!!!
NEW JERSEY:

    The Hub

    (732) 247-7933

this one is listed to have it

Don't let the 0.5% less alcohol by volume fool you, the Night Train is all business when it pulls into the station.  All aboard to nowhere - woo wooo!  The night train runs only one route: sober to stupid with no roundtrip tickets available, and a strong liklihood of a train wreck along the way.  This trainyard favorite is vinted and bottled by E&J Gallo Winery, in in Modesto, CA.  Don't bother looking on their web page, because they dare not mention it there.  As a clever disguise, the label says that it is made by "Night Train Limited."  Some suspect that Night Train is really just Thunderbird with some Kool-Aid-like substance added to try to mask the Clorox flavor.  Some of our researchers indicated that it gave them a NyQuil-like drowsiness, and perhaps this is why they put "night" in the name.  The picture (above right) shows that the subject that drank Night Train is down for the count, while the Cisco guzzling subject is ready to rock.  Guaranteed to tickle your innards.

They were selling it where I lived in the South of the US. Pretty cheap too, but I never tried it...it's citrus wine or something, right?

Just found this on Wikipedia, interesting stuff, I didn't know this:

The hard rock band Guns N' Roses wrote a song, Nightrain, about the wine. E & J Gallo Winery contacted the band after the song's release to inform them that they should have paid for the right to use the Night Train brand name (it is believed the song title was contracted to Nightrain in an attempt to get around this). The company later decided they would accept the 300% increase in sales triggered by the song as an alternative payment.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Train_(wine)

I remember seeing it in that format in package stores in the South:

More pics: http://www.ghettowine.com/nighttrain/
On one of them you can read "Citrus wine and natural flavors"...lol I don't wanna drink citrus wine...lol

The song is a tribute to an infamous brand of cheap Californian wine, Night Train Express, which was extremely popular with the band during their early days, thanks mainly to its low price and high alcohol content.

We were living in the Gardener Street studio, where we had one little box of a room. We had no money but we could dig up a buck to go down to this liquor store. It happened to have this great wine called Nightrain that would fuck you up for a dollar. Five dollars and you'd be gone. We lived off this stuff. Duff - Hit Parader March 1988

According to the band the song was written 'in situ', in other words whilst they were drinking Night Train. Some sources claim that the first version was actually yelled (presumably by Axl) whilst walking back to their apartment from the liquor store further up the street.

They USED to sell it up in Winsted, CT...in a little packie, heading out of town, North, on Old Route 8 (about 5 miles south of the Rte 8/CT 20 intersection).  But the packie has changed hands a couple of times since then and I've not gone looking to see if they still carry it in the last 3 or 4 years.

The stuff is potent, tastes vaguely like Nyquil (before reformulation) or Robotussin (also before reformulation) mixed with grape juice, from what I recall, and was insanely cheap.

If you're doing this for "sentimental" GnR related collectable reasons, keep searching.

If you're doing it because you want to taste it, or consume it....don't bother.  It's wretched stuff that's only good if you absolutely NEED a cheep buzz.

Here in Canada, it is most certainly classified as "racist" however I didn't say anything? because Im not easily offended, and because it's none of my business to call someone on a racial slur :)

I used to get Night Train at the package stores around UConn - in Storrs, CT.  It was foul, but effective and cheap.  I think Holiday Spirits had it - not sure if they still do but worth a try.

In Connecticut the Liquor Stores are called Package Stores or Packies for short- nothing to do with race thankfully.

Packie as in "Package Store" (which is what our liquor stores are called up here in CT).

For example: "I'm making a quick packie run.  Anyone want anything?".

Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, and FYI: Our 7-11 type stores (Cumberland farms, Quickie Mart, X-tra Mart, 7-11, etc) don't sell "adult beverage consumables".

I always have a couple glasses before I see a GNR show, so I have had it 3 times in my life. ?If it wasnt for the sentimental rah rah in the pre-game for the concerts, I would never drink the stuff. I still have a bottle left over from the shows I went to this year. ?It can be hard to find. ?I live in suburban Minneapolis/St Paul, and I had to travel all the way to a seedy part of St Paul to find it. ?It was about $4 bucks a bottle.

Well something new learnt here, i wasnt trying to be an asshole or anything its just a word for that type of shop that is used differently in this country,

so a note to Americans Dont come here saying anybody want anything from the packie shop as you might get funny looks.

Anyhow back to the subject ?:hihi:

No biggie.  Really, we use the term so much around here I hadn't even thought about writing it "long form" (Package store) to avoid the confusion and never thought about the possibility to miscontrue the term to something racist.

But I figured I'd clarify before someone either a) got offended or b) a quick clicking mod dropped negative karma on my head. :)

I used to go to school at st cloud state university (MN), and they had night train at the liquor stores there.  I bought a bottle once, it was $1.99, and it was horrible.  Its hard to describe the taste but it was similar to the cough meds comparison, only it had a big kick to it.  If you get a bottle make sure you chill it first, it tastes a little better, but not much.  It will help if you are drunk already then you wont taste it as much.

Yeah. I haven't seen a bottle of Night Train in awhile. It's near impossible to find in the regular liquor stores nowadays, because it's such a low-end drink. Some freinds of mine said they bought a couple bottles awhile back at, just what you said, a ghetto liquor store.

Because of it's cheapness, some of these low-end, ghetto areas might be the only places to track down Night Train.

But it's not that great of a drink. So if you get shot in the process or mugged trying to get it, simply just isn't worth it, lol.? :hihi:

Most people bought it because it's so potent, you get wasted EASILY on NT.

You won't find Night Train in the UK (I know, I've looked and there's something to do with some of the ingrediants that bar it from being imported. Or so I was told by the owner of an Offie who specialised in US imports.)

That being said, I tried it years ago when a friend brought back a few bottles from the US and knew I was a GnR fan so I got a full bottle all to mahself. I wouldn't go out of my way to find it, but if I saw it while in the mood for a cheap n nasty I'd get a few bottles.

In the UK the Cheap n Nasty wine for me, as a teenager, was Buckfast Tonic Wine. Made in Devonshire, England by monks in Buckfast Abbey it's enough to get ya going after a bottle. Most people it makes 'em fight tho (I never had this issue) so watch out if you try it.

I have 3 liquor stores in my area and 2 ordered it for me... Its not hard for them to get , because its made by one of the biggest wine makers in the world.. Usually places could get it on their next shipment date along with their order... Just ask them to order Night Train made by  E&J Gallo Winery... The 2 places are far from ghetto too... The other place was kinda snooty when they told me no... So i'm sure if you call a few places you'll find at least one to order it for you!!

It was pretty awful and gave me a terrible headache.? I would not recommend it unless you're desperate to try the stuff.

Inspired by this thread, I got up this morning and called a couple local wine shops. Most balked or simply never heard of it. Then I "lowered" my aim and started hitting up some of the general liquer stores. Hit one, right next door (to Hell) to where I was going later. I picked up a bottle for next to nothing. They were all dusty, looks like they don't move too many of them. The clerk gave me this wild look like "Why are you buying bum's booze?" Doesn't matter. I believe everyone when they say it tastes like utter shite, so this is more for the sentimental value of me saying "Yeah, Night Train, I have a bottle of that somewhere." It is sitting in the fridge right now though, I'm planning on at least a taste before I give up on it.

Update: I took that first sip and...you're right, it ain't that bad. It's definately got a kick, but in a trashy way it's also kinda sweet (in the taste sense, not the sentimental one). Again, not something I'd sit around and drink just for the hell of it, it seems to have its purpose, and I wouldn't gulp it all too fast, but to anyone else who wants to ride the Nighttrain who hasn't, give it a shot. The worst it'll do is put you back $3.50 and give you a headache.

Night Train was my first drink ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was like 15, I stood outside of a liquer store and asked one of the black dudes going in to buy me some wine - I gave him six bucks and he came out with two bottles of Night Train - one for him and one for me! I didn't even ask for that brand - I didn't know shit - he just bought what he usually drinks and decided to get the same for me. I drank the whole thing myself - yeah it ranks with Boones Farm but it kicks your ass - wasted and sick as a dog the next morning. And then I continued to drink Night Train until I got a fake id and then I moved on to mickeys big mouth malt liquer and night train _ when you are a poor college student nothing like a bottle of night train or little kings for $4.99 a case! Needless to say, I wouldn't mind revisiting the night train again but I'm afraid of the consequences of the next morning because now I can drink a whole bottle myself without much repercussion.

You can get it in Chicago at most local liquer stores but the chains don't really carry it cause it is kind of known as a bum's wine or poor stupid college students Friday night.

I am proud to say I was introduced even before GNR wrote the song! Nighttrain is my favorite song period - take my credit card to the liquer store and that's one for you and two for me (that's what it takes now) by tonight - I'll be loaded like a freight train! But I love feeling like a space brain!

Drink up but be forewarned!

$4 for this is pretty damn expensive I think! If I'm not mistaken, Night Train is around 17% alcohol. Here you can find decent wine around 4-5 euros and some of them are 14%...and when I mean decent, it's nothing that tastes like how Night Train is described.

almost every liquor store in my area has it...it's also less than $3.00 a bottle.  That stuff gives me a really angry drunk though!  After playing beersketball with it one weekend and pretty much kicking my family and friends out of the house, I decided not to drink it anymore.  I like my friends and family  :D  Be warned!!!! :smoking:

When Chinese Democracy comes out, I will get my copy, come home, and open a bottle of the devil and punish myself for waiting in agony for all these years. It will be the last time I touch Night Train. Unless of course I wind up going to a concert with Sex Kitten...all bets are off then!

What we do when we drink it, is get like 4 of us together, crank up the song, and slam the bottle before the song is over....i ONLY drink it to the song, and ONLY with those specific people.....the shits nasty...when i flew to Minneapolis for the show, I told my friend there to bring a couple bottles...well, she ended up getting a whole case of 12, lol, after the weekend we still had 8 left, so i left it all at my buddys place, and unless he gets absolutly desprerate for a drink, I'm assuming it'll still be there the next time I go for a visit.

Are you sure?  I've read a lot about Absinthe and everything I read says that the psychoactive effects are caused by the Thujone that comes from Wormwood. Ive gotten that from alot of different sources.

Thujone along with other herbs cause the drinker to be in a state of drunken clarity.  Thujone blocks inhibitors that stop brain cells from fireing.  Once those inhibitors are blocked, the brain is free to fire at will. This is said to breed creativity.

This is the psychoactive effect that Absinthe drinkers talk about.  You will not halucinate, that is a myth.

That websight is not full of shit,  they are very informative about what is in their drink and what to expect. :peace:

Right, thujone being the key to absinthe's effect. But still, it's not what I would deem a psychoactive effect. The amount of thujone content in absinthe is supposed to be minimal at best and isn't all that essential to the absinthe in the first place. The reason sites like that and others are informative is because they proclaim the so-called "psychoactive" effects of the drink while trying to peddle a tarted up version of the drink loaded to the gills with a thujone content that isn't really part of absinthe as a drink or an experience in the first place. In other words, it's sensationalizing something that isn't that sensational to begin with. Many of the effects of absinthe recorded as being effects of the thujone were in fact effects of the copper content in the drink at the time the drink was originally popular. Depending on the distillery, it could quite literally be poisonous. That's where the misconceptions stem from and that's where the fudgy possession laws come into play. And websites like that are playing on that, the dangerous element of this "forbidden" drink which really isn't. Now I'm not trying to slam you and I do appreciate your having read into the subject, but until one has actually had a proper glass of proper absinthe, without the added sensationalism of an amped up so-called psychoactive, it's not really fair reporting.

I always have a couple glasses before I see a GNR show, so I have had it 3 times in my life.  If it wasnt for the sentimental rah rah in the pre-game for the concerts, I would never drink the stuff. I still have a bottle left over from the shows I went to this year.  It can be hard to find.  I live in suburban Minneapolis/St Paul, and I had to travel all the way to a seedy part of St Paul to find it.  It was about $4 bucks a bottle.

where in st. paul can you get this shit?

Thats cool, I didnt take it as a slamming.

I have never had Absinthe but Im looking into getting some.  They do seem to be the only websight that promotes the amount of Thujone in the bottle.  I see that as a good thing.  You said that Thujone is the key to the absinthe effect and then said that it is not part of the experience at all.  I think that without the Thujone from the wormwood and the other herbs distilling together in the bottle,  there would be nothing special about Absinthe.  Thujone is why people drink it.

I believe that the Thujone content was originally very high and that the effects back then took the drinker past the open minded state into the trippy state.  People became afraid of it and banned it.  Now with commercial Absinthe, the laws allow it to be made with a controlled amount in the bottle. Maybe the websight is playing off that a little bit to try and sell bottles but I dont think that their Absinthe is bogus.  :peace:

We'll see,  Im going to try it.

To the request regarding if someone can get some bottles and ship them...

I work at a liquor store and had my manager order me a whole case to help you guys out.?

Each bottle cost me $2.66 per bottle for the 750ML bottle.

If you shoot me a PM I can see about shipping some bottles to people if they are interested at of course the cost that I had to pay.? Im not looking to make any profit, just trying to help some people out who want to try it or keep it as a collectible item for their GNR collection.

So like I said, shoot me a PM if your interested....I have 12 bottles, and about 5 of them are already claimed.

the effects

Really? That's where I live. Cool. :) Maybe I can get some.

Me and my friend got a bottle each the other night.  It was $3.70 each, and was in the corner of the beer cooler at this local liquor store.  My friend drank the entire bottle and got FUCKED UP, even getting kicked out of a bar later for tripping over a space heater.  I honestly couldn't do much more than half the bottle.  It tastes decent-ish at first, but it gets progressively worse with every drink to the point of it tasting worse than cough syrup.

Not recommended.  But of course, it gave us an excuse to blast Nightrain over and over.

My coccyx isn't too bad...some days worse than others, but I know it's there everyday.  How bad is yours?

btw, I don't know why everyone talks about how bad nightrain tastes...it's really not bad at all...very syrupy...like a mixture of jager and wine.  Maybe it's the "white trash" in me, but I'll go out on a limb and say I actually kind of like the taste!   :peace:

I have a bottle of unopened Night Train Express from like 2001 in my dresser.    It really is pretty damn cheap cost me maybe $2 here at the local liqour store.

If I remember right they had 2 kinds  the red looking win and a white  clear version.

Here are some pics from my vacation home last weekend. We always get a bunch of bottles and pass it around and the bottle has to be gone by the end of the song. Nightrain is better described as liquid death...nasty..but I still drink it, lol
When I went to the liquor store back home, the clerk remembered me cause he said I was the only person that ever buys the shit.

Well, for $2.50 a bottle.....lol, we can't help it. My friends decided that I should get the Train logo from the bottle tattooed on my back..like bursting out from my skin.....then get a caption like "Ridin' The Nightrain" or something.
