Thanks for the link guns_n_motley.  These songs are alright, I was holding off on judging the lousy sounding live boots but we get to hear album versions here

She Build Quick Machines is generic.  Slash has a cool solo though

The Last Fight sounds promising, only have a snippet here but it could be a really good track.  Better than Fall To Pieces but I don't see it being better than Loving The Alien though

Spay sounds decent

She Mine sounds decent

Buckcherry is doing this style of music better than VR is at the moment.  Still sounds a lot more like STP than GnR as well.  Sounds like Libertad is going the direction of Contraband, in that there will be a maybe 3 or 4 standout tracks mixed in with a solid set of songs

YOu are not missing anything.  None of it sounds as good as Contrband.  Nothing near as good as CD.  I love Contraband so, this not an AXl vs. the guys thing.  I justs did not hear anything impressive.
I'd rather decide that on my own.

SBGM is going to make an awesome single. It totally rocks and that bridge is just killer. Throw in an awesome Slash solo and you have the recipe for a hit song. All the worry about this being the first single should be alleviated now hopefully.

^chill girl...

Last fight is easily the best yet. haven't heard the others as much, i got stuck on the last fight.. Spay and She Mine is ok rockers.. it aint no fucking revolutionary songs though (not saying anybody has said that, i'm just saying that :P)

I'll be back with opinion on SBQM laters ;)

Title: Re: Heres some samples from the album here!

I'm totally diggin the last fight and the backing vocals on all of the other songs...

but?I still think slash's solos should be cranked up a couple of notches, that actually goes for all the guitars the sound is a bit thin imo...

* edit: She mine blows on the album not liking it at all, It's a million times better live!

Thanks for the links.

My opinion:
- Spay: sounds ok, but a bit weird at points. I have to listen to the final version to form a good opinion.
- She Mine: still like this song a lot.
- SBQM: nice song, but I'm not blown away.
- Last Fight: I think this is the strongest track of the samples. Has a nice flow, sounds good overall.

I would have chosen Last Fight as the single  ;)

Title: Re: Heres some samples from the album here!
Post by: jmrgnr on May 15, 2007, 05:05:38 PM
As much as i really want to like the songs i find myself being bored....it doesn't really light a fire. They aren't BAD...just boring. Sounds a bit muted....no punch to the sound. Contraband may have an edge in my opinion and that really isn't much of an album to compare to.

Title: Re: Heres some samples from the album here!
Post by: greendog on May 15, 2007, 05:21:28 PM
I dont know if its the low bit rate, but She Builds Quick Machines isn't very good at all.

Spay sounds OK at best, I want to hear the full song though.

She Mine.. what the fucks that all about? I want the Scott from Contraband. The music sounds weak. The guitar sounds thin (not in the low bit rate way, im ignoring that)

My general feeling is that unless there are songs a hell of a lot better on the album than this then album will blow. I can apreciate the fact that its a different musical direction, I'm all for artist development and stuff but it feels forced. It feels like the band has died. It could still rock hard like contraband, even if the songs dont sound as hard. Maybe its the production?

Last Fight wont download... so il edit my opinion a bit when ive heard that.

I can honestly say that this is the ONLY material ive heard by Slash, Duff and Matt that doesnt turn me on, so to speak. All their other projects are pure brilliance.

IMO SBQM after a few "listens" it's an ok song.. kinda catchy.. but it's not as good as slither and slither wasn?t a groundbreaking song IMO

best song easily last fight, it rawx in a figure of speaky way ;)

Title: Re: Heres some samples from the album here!
Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on May 15, 2007, 05:35:14 PM
Outside of The Last Fight which I'm digging these songs are pretty bland

She Builds Quick Machines, Spay and She Mine all sound worse than most of Contraband.  Nowhere near as good as Superhuman, Headspace, Sucker Train Blues, DLT, not to mention the softer songs like You Got No Right and Loving The Alien.

IMO those 3 songs are pretty mediocre, they sound like the worst stuff on Contraband

These blow Contraband away! I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! But Get Out The Door is Still my favorite, I heard it at the SF show. Scott has these great Whiny lyrics, and the chorus is just aweosme.

Title: Re: Heres some samples from the album here!
Post by: AxlReznor on May 15, 2007, 05:55:07 PM
I really like Spay.  The guitar has a really Aerosmith-type sound.  She Mine has a fair bit of potential, too.  Could be a bit too STP-ish, though... not a bad thing necessarily, but still.
Still think SBQM is the most annoyingly repetitive song I've heard for a long time... even more repetitive than Big Machine.  Don't like it at all.  And Last Fight... I'll reserve judgement, but so far I don't like that one either, although it is the one song that Scott sounds as great as he can on.

damn I think overall the songs are quite good!  especially  Last Fight which is still my favourite  :peace: oh and the chorus of She Mine is so good!
but on other hand, listening to the songs just make me more sad just to think about the cancelled show in Lisbon I was going to... oh dear...  :'(

She Builds Quick Machine- I think it is average... not the strongest of the songs we can here by now. In my opinion it shouldn?t be the single. though the chorus is quite catchy after hearing it some times... oh and Slash?s solo could be a bit longer I think. But yeah, comparing to contraband?s first single, Slither, it is quite bad indeed.

Oh another thing... alike Contraband... I think these songs sound much like each other, concerning rhythm and stuff... but hey! let?s wait for the full album! ;)

She builds quick machines sounds more like Vertigo every time I hear it. I loved Contraband but these songs are fairly average (I haven't heard Last Fight - can someone upload it please?). Spay has a cool old-type bluesy solo at the end - I now know what Slash meant in those interviews.

Hmm...I'm not incredibly enthused by this.

She Builds Quick Machines - A touch too "poppy" (at least vocally) and a redeeming Slash solo was all too short.

The Last Fight - Kind of uninspired, but it was just a snippet.  Got better at the end, when it faded out, as there was some interesting guitar in the background.

Spay - Am I the only one who thinks these songs are really suffering from bad vocal performances?

She Mine - Interesting rhythms and a cool Eastern vibe in this one.  Im the most intrigued by this one.

I dunno...it seems like this band is not really using its assets fully.  I mean, Slash can tear it up and I always enjoyed Duff on bass, but they seem to really want to be vocally centered, despite that being, from what I heard, their biggest weakness.

Both better than anything on Contraband beating Slither & Fall to Pieces.  Guitars are crisp.  Much better mix this time around.

My opinion about the tracks:

01) ''She Build Quick Machines'' has a catchy and ''poppy'' chorus, and that's it. It has an innecesary long ''slow'' part, which is very boring in my opinion. The Slash solo is decent... but if I were told that Slash recorded that solo in 1987, I'll believe it. Nothing interesting in this song IMHO.

02) ''Last Fight'': It's chorus remembers me intensely of another song that I cant remember. I'm sure I've heard those melodies before, at the point that I was anticipating what was following in the song. Cool song, not bad at all, but I expect a lot more from Weiland/Slash.

03) ''Spay'' the strongest track of the four, and the only one that left me desiring the full version. Very cool Slash solo, great vocal parts by Weiland, and this is probably the song that is closer to the ''Contraband'' sound of all the four. From what I could heard, this song is promising and could be a good choice for the second single.

04) ''She Mine'' is probably the worst piece of shit I've ever heard from Slash/Weiland. Maybe I should wait to hear the full lenght track, but this sample is terrible in my opinion. That 8/10 second Slash solo is very weak, 8/10 seconds ''wasted'' in the track, and I didnt like at all the voice that Weiland used at the end of the sample. It reminds me of ''Babasonicos'', the biggest pop/gay/teen icon in argentine/latinamerican music.

Now I need a full lenght version of ''Spay'' to blast my speakers. Very cool track, very promising  : ok:

Very cool track, very promising? : ok:

I agree about Spay!  Everyone is dogging this song, but I like it.  Reminds me of Spectical a little in the attitude department.  The music is a mix between Bad Obsession and Perfect Crime.  Well kind of anyway.

SBQM is such a weak first single.  is that seriously the best they can do?

SBQM has all the elements of a hit single, and it will likely do awesome for the band as Slither did. I am sure they will be quite happy with it even though you think it is weak.

It's still really interesting to see such differeing opionions here.
I've heard a live boot of She Mine and I really dig it, it has a bit of an AIC vibe to the chorus. And Spay has been written off by some people, while others love it.

It at least shows there's a bit of diversity amongst the new tracks.

i really like The Last Fight and She Mine.

She Builds Quick Machines has NOTHING on Slither.

that being said its decent. pretty catchy, but nothing special. it'll do fine as a single.

also these songs at least prove they have evolved and moved away from Contraband. thank god for that.

My point is that we are all sometimes quick to label something boring, mediocre, forgettable and whatnot when in reality we just don't always know how things will be received. When people heard Slither was going to be the single some were quick to dismiss it based on the idea of it being mediocre based on the El Rey performance. No one at the time would probably have believed the song would help propel them to a triple platinum album and a Grammy.

The moral of the story is we just don't know how something will be received by the general public. We live in an insulated world on these message boards in terms of our perspective, so just because we may deem something as forgettable, average, mediocre, or boring.

SBQM is such a weak first single.

That's yet to be seen.

Smart money says American modern rock radio will take it and run with it, time will tell if it has the resonance of "Slither".

? is that seriously the best they can do?

Beyond a goofy selection for a 3rd single from Contraband (DLT), VR, management and label have done nearly everything perfect as far as strategy's concerned.

I see no reason to not trust them here, they've earned the courtesy via track record.

I couldn't agree more. This song will be a homerun on modern rock radio as it rocks, has that awesome bridge, and a killer Slash solo. Throw in the fact the label seems highly committed to helping them get media exposure and airplay and the formula screams radio hit. They will follow it up with Last Fight which will also be a major hit (as it will follow the FTP course) and if they don't screw the 3rd single up again they might have a monster album on their hands.

The first time I've heard ''Slither'' I was really shocked. Slash guitars were killer, the track sounded like a 4 minute hard rock lesson and I was absolutely happy with it being first single.

Now I dont feel anything like that. None of this tracks sounds as hard as slither, none of them (maybe ''Spay'') have a killer guitar solo, and I still cant understand why SBQM was chosen to be the first single.

''Slither'' had everything to be the first single, because people were expecting a hard rocking song with a catchy chorus and a wild guitar solo. And the song/video was a huge success. Shame it would end being the only hard rocking song in ''Contraband''

I cant imagine too many people being enough hypnotized with ''She Build Quick Machines'' to go and buy the album. I wish to be wrong

I loved the snippet of "Last Fight", I'm anxious to hear the full version.  I liked "She Mine" up until the chorus, that was just bad.  "Spay" has potential.  Not a big fan of SBQM but it's only on first listen.  Maybe I could warm up to it, but it certainly didn't grab me initially.

After a disappointing first listen, I went back the the one full song and three snippets and gave them another try.  And, I have to say, most of my concerns still stand.  But I also realized what is really bothering me about these songs.  Within a single track, the instrumental parts are very repetitive...boringly so, in some cases, without a superior vocal performance to distract from the repetition.

So I went back to what I think is the best hard rock record I've ever heard (which just so happens to feature two VR members) are really tried to listen to the instrumental parts.  Now, I don't expect Libertad to be Appetite II or for VR to be GNR II.  But, I gotta tell ya, those Appetite songs are alive...writhing, electric songs, with feeling and emotion.  The stuff I just heard lacks that.  I don't know if it's a song writing problem or a performance problem, but what I've heard so far, in my opinion, isn't even as good as Contraband.

As I said earlier, these samples don't reflect a band that is fully utilizing the talents of its members.  I seem to recall a remark from Scott Weiland that they "made the record he wanted to make."  Maybe that's not such a good thing...

From what they have said in various interviews it sounds like they were purposely going for a little less abrasive in your face sound like Contraband had and more towards a smoother textured layered type sound. You're never going to hear that writhing electric feeling out of any of the guys who recorded Appetite because they are all 40 something millionaires now who aren't living on the streets and just scraping by like they were when they wrote Appetite. They have all moved on now to a more clean and polished sound compared to the gritiness I think you are looking for.

Grittiness is part of it, I think, and I do tend toward bands that have that, but it's more than that.  There's just something missing in the songs, for me.  Then again, I'm not without hope.  After all, it's only one FULL song I've heard (not counting shitty live vids, which I don't rely too much on), and I'm hoping that they didn't put all their BEST material out there so early.  SBQM is catchy, but I rarely find a bands first single to be the true gem of an album, so we'll see.  I'll probably still buy it, and will likely enjoy it.  After all, anything with Slash and Duff is going to be better than most major label releases, these days.

I think Slash's solo's so far are more appetite and early gnr like, but the songs are not as complex as say a welcome to the jungle. ?Though SBQM has a bridge and some different timing, its not as complex. ?That being said, I don't think that is a factor. I like the songs alot. ?If mixed in with CB, you have a great concert. ?9 songs from CB were in your face. ?On Libertad, we will be luck to get 3.

If so, they're gaining quite the reputation for taking utter shit and making it appear as though it's worth listening to.

We've got quite the split. I'm going to side with those that say it's weak.

I agree.  These songs scream "mailed it in" to me.  She Builds Quick Machines is like they sat down and thought out how to make a corporate rock song.  The only redeeming part is the Slash solo, and Duff's bassline is pretty cool.  There's really nothing else about this song that's memorable or interesting.  The riff is decent.  The lyrics are lame.  The vocals/vocal melodies are boring.  Chorus is annoying.  Kushner is anonymous as usual.  The song itself is unremarkable in basically every way

I agree with your whole post but specially with the text in bold.

I think VR is trying to make corporate rock songs since the first day.

To be honest, I only feel sorry for Slash. I dont care about the rest of the guys anymore (I never cared about Kushner). If I ever buy this album (unlikely at this point), the only reason is gonna be Slash.

It would be very interesting to compare this board's first impressions after listening to the first studio tracks from ''Contraband'' and now.

About the guitars, I dont notice the big step forward due to the new producer.

Maybe tomorrow, with the new high quality clip (the MP3s made with the AOL stream are not the best quality), my impressions may change. I hope so.

The thing that I'm still trying to understand is why Slash decided to kick Josh Todd and Keith Nelson out of the group.  Their style is much more in tune with the ex-Guns background.  They had recorded 10 songs and then Slash just kicked them out of the band without any explanation.  IMO 15 is a better album than Contraband, more replay value, not to mention the self-titled Buckcherry album which is better than 15.  Slash kicked those guys out of the band to make songs like THIS?  It's hard for me to understand

Yes, Josh Todd would had been a better choice. But currently, my theory is that Slash is not the one who decides that kind of things in Velvet Revolver. I think that the one deciding the most relevant things for the band is not a former GNR member, and that's why the bands sounds like this: mediocre, flat, disposable.

My theory is that Slash is limited to make the guitars for Weiland's band, and that's it.

who knows if I am right or not... All I know is that I dont see any other plausible explanation for this mediocrity

SLASH IS NOT TRYING TO RECREATE GUNS N ROSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is why Josh todd isnt in the band or Bach or anyone else.

They are doing a new style and arent trying to be GNR. Slash has moved on and knows trying to recapture the old days is impossible so he has adapted.

I still think that a band consisting of Slash-Duff-Sorum with Todd and Nelson, both from a songwriting perspective and just a blend of styles, would be hands down the most ass kicking hard rock band in the biz right now.  And they would be a lot better band than what VR is right now

VR is still trying to do the hard rock thing but Weiland isn't really an ass kicking hard rock frontman.  Todd is the real article.  I can understand why they wouldn't go with Bach because he's an 80's metal guy.  But Todd is a much better songwriter than Bach, and Nelson is a hell of a lot better guitarist and writer than Kushner is.  They're still basically making straight ahead hard rock, but it sounds more like STP than GNR

But hey they made their decision.  Buckcherry has been reconstructed and when it comes to contemporary hard rock, I'll take them over what I'm hearing from VR.  It's just hard for me not to think of what might have been.  These new songs to me just lack vitality

I don't know what Contraband you're listening to

The black one. Maybe I should try buying the red one or the white to contemplate the ''hard rocking'' sound... Nothing in the black.

I can't see this argument going anywhere if you don't think that songs like Suckertrain Blues and Dirty Little Thing are hard rocking.

not again this discussion please... I will only say that I think that ''Sucker Train Blues'' (a song I really like) and ''Dirty Little Thing'' are, at least, ''harder'' and more catchy than any of these new songs.

I also like much more the Slash guitar parts in these 2 CB songs (with the ''loser'' Abraham as producer) than any of the guitars I've heard in the snippets with the ''almighty'' O'Brien...

Do you peacefully want to tell me your opinion?  :peace:

The sound is weak, I've read that Slash said somewhere in an interview that the producer of Contraband didnt know how to record guitars. Thats never a bad thing, when you dont know how to do something you aren't influenced by the 'dos' and 'donts' of recording techniques. Which in my opinion is one of the best ways to go about something, keeps it fresh and raw. The guitars on Contraband kicks like a mule! They are pretty damn sweet.

I do feel harsh picking the new stuff to pieces without hearing studio quality recordings on my studio speakers but fuck me. It sounds bad so far.

Well, I gave in and downloaded these tracks and I don't think you can make any judgement on these at all, the sound is obviously compressed and the audio is pretty bad. It's good to get an idea of what some the songs sound like, but I honestly think the album versions will shit all over these.

That said, I'm really liking what I'm hearing though! : ok:

I actually think She Builds Quick Machines will be a pretty cool single too from having heard the full version. It does have a bit of a Slither vibe to it too.

I agree with your whole post but specially with the text in bold.

I think VR is trying to make corporate rock songs since the first day.

my theory is that Slash is not the one who decides that kind of things in Velvet Revolver.

The thing that I'm still trying to understand is why Slash decided to kick Josh Todd and Keith Nelson out of the group.? Their style is much more in tune with the ex-Guns background.? They had recorded 10 songs and then Slash just kicked them out of the band without any explanation.? IMO 15 is a better album than Contraband, more replay value, not to mention the self-titled Buckcherry album which is better than 15.? Slash kicked those guys out of the band to make songs like THIS?? It's hard for me to understand

because its all about the $$. In a way I think slash compromised the kind of music he likes to play to get Radio play. They got scott weiland because he has low vocals like most singers on modern rock radio.

the songs are generic, but sadly its better than most new bands on the radio!!

btw. scorpions new cd sounds killer as well. modern but killer :hihi:

and where is the damn download??? its 9:30 it was supposed to go up almost 5 hours ago!!

Okay sooo. "Right right rhymes with night and spotlight." Good job Scott.

Lets dont go there Buddha

How many times does a certain other singer rhyme heart and apart and even rhymes "ALL" with yes "ALL" :o

D. Dude we have known each other a long time here. I know you couldn't possibly be comparing the lyrics by Scott to Axl's. Axl's reads like poetry and after listening to the leaks, are inspired work. There is nothing that sounds inspired with these songs from VR and definitely not in these lyrics. Seriously man.... ummm, are you being serious?

like "somebody raped my tapeworm abortion" really hes just taking some jibberish and putting it together. But then people say "oh what a great writer it must be an analogy for something"

Thing is Shotgun, that is YOUR opinion and u are entitled to it but me personally I think Weiland is a million times better than Josh Todd.

I dont want Slash in a band with a guy who sings  a song like "Crazy Bitch" are u kiddin me? That song is just a few steps up from Stripper Girl.

Well, if Slash and Todd were in the same band it's doubtful Crazy Bitch would've been made.  I'm not a big fan of the song, in fact it's one of my least favorite Buckcherry songs, but the guys made it because they wanted to make a strip club anthem, never anticipating it would be a single let alone a hit.  I don't see how Crazy Bitch is any worse than Back Off Bitch or Anything Goes, like those songs it's stupid but it's entertaining enough.  Musically it's got a good groove, showing off the difference between Keith Nelson and Kushner :smoking:

Todd is at this point IMO a better songwriter than Weiland is.  His vocal melodies are more interesting, his choruses are better.  Weiland's lyrics are not what they once were.  Todd's no master lyricist either but he at least doesn't resort to gibberish just to rhyme at times like Weiland has been doing in recent years.  Also, just from a vocal standpoint, he has a lot more energy and emotion

I firmy believe that if Todd and Nelson were in the band, the music would be more fun to listen to, it would have a lot more attitude, it would have more balls, and would rock a LOT harder.  But we have what we have.  I'm just not inspired by it, at least on the VR side

That song sold alot of singles and helped propel there album to gold along with constant touring.

The lyrics are awesome in all buckcherry albums, check the song sorry, its awesome just imagine is slash had done a solo on it, would have been perfect.

buckcherry piss over VR, and they are much younger too which is better cause we need more younger rock bands that make quality albums and perform good shows.

The single isn't that good, lets face it.

"Last Fight" sounds like a great song, better then "Fall To Pieces" I agree. "Spay" is at best average, nothing great, just a STP filler it sounds to me. "She Mine" is another solid but average track.

So far, out of the 4 previewed tracks "Last Fight" is only exciting. "Slither" and "FTP" both hit in the top 60 on the charts, these won't stand a chance.

Like that was such a huge feat in 2004. Realistically, what other rock songs were there then? None that were very memorable.

Why the need to diminish the accomplishment?

Maybe because it wasn't such a huge accomplishment? If they were up against a lot of great rock bands and then won, then that would be awesome for them and they would deserve props. But when they are up against the likes of Good Charolette et al, I don't see it as being a big deal that they beat those type of bands.

If memory serves correctly, other nominees included Metallica, Slipknot, Nickelback and Incubus.

Beyond that..

In a subjective realm such as music, it makes no sense to diminish the, yes "accomplishment" by what you deem a lack of competition.

The fact remains they won, plain and simple.

Winning a Grammy or any other award doesn't mean shit these days.Record labels have taken complete control over everything.Awards are bought and paid for just like getting on MTV ,Clear Channel and the Billboard Charts, hell they even lie about album sales,it's called promotion nowdays.DJ's don't even exist anymore so how can the playlist be decided by what the listeners want,it's not,it's bought and paid for by the Record Labels.None of these things are anything other than a promotional tool.

I agree that the level of the competition does not necessarily indicate the quality of the winner.  Put Zeppelin IV against Slipknot, Nickelback, and Incubus, and it would also win.  That doesn't mean it isn't great, just because the competition is shitty.

It does, however, say something about the caliber of music being nominated for rock Grammy's, considering that Nickelback, which is widely regarded by music fans as a fucking joke, was among the nominees.  It would have been a MUCH more telling statement if VR had LOST that Grammy which, fortunately, they did not.  If Slash lost to Nickelback, I think that a Jonestown-esque drinking of the Kool-Aid would have been in order.  :hihi:

Anyway, I agree with D: I though SBQM was crappy at first, but this studio version is miles above the youtube one. Nothing earth-shaking, obviously, but a good song indeed. I think it will do nicely in the charts.

The rest was all right; I?m looking forwards to hearing the whole thing. Thank God the production has improved...I always thought CB?s sucked.

BTW, Slash?s solo in SBQM is awesome, he should have totally kept going at it through the rest of the song, rather than going back to rhythm. Oh, well.

I agree. What is even cooler about it is that he said in an article recently he hit that solo on one take. He has a true gift at being able to listen to something and then be able to fit his solo into it seemlessly while keeping the flow of the song. He just feels something and goes with it, which is probably why he has always been revered for the amount of feel his solos have, as they don't have that slaved over feeling where they have been tweaked to death to hit every note.

It's not the stream. Encode the ''You Could Be Mine'' drum intro from UYI2 to [mp3 32kbps] and the drums won't sound as bad as in SBQM.

I listened to the clips.

she mine clip at first I'm thinking WOW , and then it slams on the brakes and scott starts singing. it goes back and forth from cool to lame. Damn slash is doing some cool stuff on that.

Spay I like music wise but it is not great and again I do not think scott is right with the music.

last fight - I have to say I like it, it will be a great song on the radio.? Even scott seems to fit that song.

SBQM as I said elsewhere music wise is awsome,? lyric wise it sounds corny and scott sucks on it.

Overall - Music wise A to A +
Lyric / vocals wise C

I do not epect them to sound like something else, but face it 2 (3 to some) of the guys are fucking legends, and I think Scott does not seem to fit them. They are rockers and he gives me that glame pop rock feeling. He is holding them back. IMHO

I never got into STP, maybe if I did I would like it more, i dunno

Stone Temple Pilot's music is fantastic. They were a hit-machine, and they have some songs that are really, really brilliant (''Plush'', ''Big Bang Baby'', ''Interstate Love Song'', ''Dead & Bloated'', etc)

The unplugged version of ''Plush'' at MTV is timeless... Weiland's voice doesn't sound like that anymore, sadly...

All the previous bands of the VR bandmembers are bigger/greater bands than VR... Stone Temple Pilots, Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit, Neurotic Outsiders, The Cult, ?Infectious Grooves?

It's called growing old, it happens to everyone. Age is a bitch to singers unfortunately because people expect the power in your voice you had in your 20's when you hit your 40's and it just isn't realistic. It happens to even the best of them. I do think Scott actually sounds better though on what we have heard so far than Contraband, so I guess that is a mini victory.

Last Fight sounds really good...a lot better than FTP

She Mine sounds good as well

SBQM has its moments but overall very average

and Spay is horrendous...atleast the part that is sampled...

Been hearing SBQM on radio a lot.  Love it.

Last Fight is much better than fall to pieces

Yep, same here.

An educated guess says it was probably the most added song to rock radio (in the US) last week.

what does horrendous mean? Spay is superb I think! She builds big machines is awesome in my opinion

Whats "horrendous" about it, out of curiosity?  Musically, its not that dissimilar to some of Use Your Illusions rockers ("Double Talkin' Jive" in particular).

Reminds me a ton of Bad Obsession too.

Booker, just listened to the Snippet again of Spay.  Wow, love it.  Matt's drums do sound a lot like Double Talkin Jive.  This song is a sleeper.  I love it.

Wow, very bland. I'm bummed.

I'll buy this album and give it a fair shake when it comes out. But I'll buy it used, not new, I'm not in that much of a hurry now.

Yea Id guess id categorize it in the Bad Apples, Dont Dam Me etc box. IDk, to me it sounds like a mess.

btw did you know that Slash did in fact go to Axls house? I read it in an article earlier

The songs are embarassing to listen to. I mean really.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but this album is shaping up to be even WORSE than Contraband. I didn't think that was possible.

Wait...I think I know where I've heard Last fight before.

My sister was watching the prom episode from 90210 back in the day. Are you sure this tune isn't a cover of that one? (So help me fuck if even one person misses the insulting sarcasm in that last sentence, I'll run off and kill Efish out of spite)

The unplugged version of ''Plush'' at MTV is timeless... Weiland's voice doesn't sound like that anymore, sadly...

Male Opera singers peak in their 40s.

I really dig those samples, Sway particularly sounds awesome. Last fight is a sure hit, uplifting mid tempo pop-rock with a killer chorus.

The Last Firght and She Mine sound like they are gonna be good.

Spay sucks and SBQM is boriing....very bland. The bridge and the solo are the only cool parts.

Does anyone know where I can find a clip of "she mine" as the old links no longer work.

SBQM has grown on me, liked it at first but it sounds a lot better now.
