Title: Man shoots talker in philly movie theater
Post by: The Dog on December 28, 2008, 03:07:19 PM
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/12/27/movie.shooting/index.html

(CNN) -- A man angry that a family was talking during a movie threw popcorn at the son and then shot the father in the arm, according to police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

James Joseph Cialella, 29, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations, a police report said.

Cialella told the family sitting in front of him in the theater on Christmas Day to be quiet, police said.

An argument ensued while others at the Riverview Movie Theatre watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Cialella then approached the family from the left side of the aisle and shot the father, who was not identified, as he was standing between Cialella and his family, according to the police report.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm, police said.

Cialella was carrying a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun clipped inside his sweatpants, police said. He was arrested and taken into custody

----Call me what you will, but I sympathize A LOT more with the shooter than I do the guy who got shot.  I HATE movie talkers/cell phone checkers.  Hopefully this will make some people think twice about talking during the next movie they go to.  he asked them to be quiet and they STILL kept on talking!!

There is no excuse for shooting someone, come on.

If it makes you that mad, then go and watch movies at home. Geez!

I had turned around and asked some guys if they could "shut up for at least an hour" a few movies ago. I was waiting for the "fuck you" and potential brawl, but they actually STFU.

the attempted murder charge is bullshit.

aggravated assault should be the charge

there was no "ATTEMPT" at murder. I mean for fuck's sake he shot him in the arm and he was point blank range. If he wanted to kill him, he would've had no problems.

2 questions

1. why the fuck do people socialize during movies

2nd? why the fuck would u bring a gun to the movies?

Why would such a seriously disturbed person go see that movie.

Seriously though, why would you take a gun to a cinema?? You obviously plan to do something with it or at least threaten someone with it...

The guy was clearly disturbed (take a look at his mug shot, hehe).  Maybe he was just fed up with talkers.  I've had to shush people more than I'd like to admit at the theaters - I am a magnet for every asshole that goes to the movies.  Most of the time they shut the fuck up.  But why should I have to shush them in the first place!?!?!  It's not like I enjoy it and you never know how they are going to react.  The most "HUH!!" moments are when they yell back at you - as if "who are you to tell me to not talk during the movie".

I rarely go to the movies anymore which is a shame.  Too many cell phone lights, people actually answering the phone during the movies ("hey, I'm at the movies, i'll call you back....what am i seeing? oh, the new james bond.   yeah its ok so far..."), and of course the average asshole talker.

Protection perhaps.

I think that's why we're allowed to sell them and carry them.

Movie theaters would do MORE business, if they had an usher that looked more like a security guard and not wearing a dumb uniform stationed in every movie.

Ushers are generally kids who are afraid to confront rule breakers.  Have an usher stationed in each screening and people would follow said rules better and more people would enjoy going.

I still hate the bastards that ruined Spidey 3 for me.

I am aware of gun toters and maniacs, So i generally never say anything because it would be stupid to die over a movie.

The problem with that is it would cost the theater more money which means the ticket prices/concession prices would have to be even higher.  I would buck up another $2 if it guaranteed no cell phones/talkers.

The truth is there shouldn't be a need for ushers in theaters.  You're told more than once to not talk and turn off your phone.  people just don't give a shit about other people.

damn whiggers can't even kill a man sitting still in a chair watching a movie

but really, this dude actually shot him! how crazy is that, i bet it would have been enough to show the gun, but this dude was thinking "hmm if i just show it i won't get a rep but if i kill him i'll get life in prison, i'm just gonna shoot him in the arm and say i got pushed while aiming for the heart"

oh he was almost 30, then there's no reasonable reason to shoot a man, it's too late to becoma a wangsta

all he had to do was go get security to warn them or chuck them out.

all he had to do was go get security to warn them or chuck them out.

Why should he have to?  So he has to get up, miss part of the movie, hunt down an usher/security, disrupt everyone elses movie experience (usher comes in, flashlight, argument with the talker).

Maybe people just shouldn't talk in the first place!!!  Easily my #1 pet peeve.

I still can't muster any sympathy for these people. People who constantly talk in movies and shit should be chinese water tortured until they learn to shut the fuck up.

would've been hilarious if everyone in the theater had stood up and gave the guy a standing ovation.

People don't realize how annoying it is to check cell phones etc during movies. I don't know how many times I've been blinded by some bastards bright ass cell phone checking text messages. Go to the bathroom or wait till after the movie. If u are so important and your life is so busy u can't shut the fuck up for 2 hours, then how about staying home?

missing a bit of the film?

going to jail for attempted murder?

I say give him probation

one thing is for sure

i bet those little brat bastards will never talk in a movie again.

not my point - I'm not suggesting people should shoot talkers instead of getting someone who works at the theater.  people shouldn't have to do anything in the first place.  is it that hard to shut your mouth for 2 hours, especially when you know other people are trying to watch a movie?  Why the F would you answer your phone in a movie theater??

Title: Re: Man shoots talker in philly movie theater

People are selfish assholes is why.

Still don't see how that is attempted murder instead of aggravated assault.

I turn off my phone when I go to the movies.

When I'm at the movies, I want to get away from all the outside distractions.  Even if it's only for two hours.

If you have Arclight theatres in NY, I highly suggest them.  They really do make the movie-going experience quite worthwhile.  I was sitting in the back last Saturday, and I did not see one cell phone come out.

2. East Coast  were more mellow out here on the west coast.  We don't boo santa clause  :hihi:

Before the movie begins, an usher goes up front and greets the audience.  He/she goes on to tell everyone to turn off their phones and they alert as that if they need anything, there are two ushers situated at each exit and if we need anything or have any complaints, we should let them know and they will handle it.

It is a bit more expensive but the experience makes up for it.  I think it helps keep the riff-raff out.

I remember seeing The Simpsons movie in another theatre and it was mass chaos.  All these kids were stoned out of their minds and the place reeked of marijuana.  And they were all talking and texting.  It was quite a scene.

1) The man deserved to see the movie uninterupted, I agree but...
2) He let his temper get the best of him, and that is exactly why he probably packs a gun illegally
3) Maybe some anger management and self controll classes may be entered in his punishment

The man put alot of people in jeaprody, not to mention the one who got shot, no one deserved that regardless, sorry but I cannot agree with his method of madness, it's insane ???

My husband legally carries a firearm every single day, we are business owners, sometimes we do get some employees who don't take being let go to easily and they pass threats, it's strictly for his/our own safety, as you really never know if one of them may try to make good on their threats, we don't take them for grantid, cuz some people are flat crazy!!!

So what is the point? U said, how would i feel if it were someone in my family

my family knows how to act in public and they are from a small psycho free town..

so I was just answering your question.

How would i feel?

honestly, pretty god damn happy that my family member was just shot in the arm and not murdered. Always look at the bright side.

He's asking you if this was your family it happened to, would you feel the same? He's not asking you how psycho (or not) you're family is.

Too many people are inconsiderate and when they ask their sig. other next to them a question, they do not whisper.

Nobody here is advocating killing anybody...people just oughtta know it's fucking rude to talk so loud during a movie other people can hear you, that's all.  : ok:
