grunge is not a musical genr?, it was a "wave" in the early 90s, emerging from Seattle.
I see no connection between the bands that were on the grunge wave.
what does Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam have in common? they didn't play the same type of music, they both emerged out of Seattle in the early 90s though
what's this doing in the GN'R section anyways?

Man, some of you need to chill out. Big deal, this post should be ina different section, who cares? There are some Message Board Nazis on here. "How dare you start a new post topic like this on here, you fool." I think some of you need to go out and get laid or smoke some pot, or both. RELAX, it's just a band.

like others before me have said, grunge is a media created label, not a musical genre. I thought everyone was aware of this by now. Every band grouped as grunge (Nirvana, PJ, AIC, Soungarden, STP) sound different. They are just rock n' roll bands, influenced by the 70's greats such as Led Zep, Stones, etc. Punk and Indie such as the Sex Pistols and Pixies had a lot to do with the sound as well. Look at the differences in these so-called grunge bands. Cobain was predominantly punk influenced, Vedder is like listening to a modern day Neil Young/Woody Guthrie-like folk singer. Weiland is much more Bowie, Jagger, Lydon glam-rock excess. So it is easy to see that "Grunge" is an idiotic label.

Ya, I like the post by oldleadbelly. I always thought Alice In Chains was a true metal band but was always thrown in the grunge category due to the location and timing of their success.
But while grunge is just a media label, that doesn't mean that grunge bands are not similar. It does have its own musical style, persona, message, look, etc. and bands labelled as grunge do tend to follow in each other's footsteps. A difference in sound can be attributed to the difference in two singers' voices - which does not mean they are not part of the same family of rock.
As far as Weilend is concerned, he certainly does sound like a singer from that era (low raspy voice, not sure if he has range??), which might not blend in with the Slash's creamy signature sound. Im not drawing conclusions, just speculating here.

so, that would make duff's solo act to grunge? right?

Dr. Funk makes a good point, there are musical similarities with those grouped into grunge, but like he acknowledged, there are more differences. To answer you question about Weiland's range, he is recognized as the "grunge era's" most versatile vocalist. I suggest 5 songs to guns fans wondering about the higher ranges of weiland's voice. Off of STP's #4- Glide, I Got You, Atlanta. Off Scott's solo album- Where's the Man, Son. If you are really adventurous you might want to check out And So I Know, and Adhesive off of STP's Tiny Music.

Well it seems as though they've kinda updated their sound a bit but it's still riffy hard rock similar to what GN'R played and that solo in Slither is classic Slash, so I don't see them as a "grunge" band, whatever the hell that means.

Well, I don't want to put down Scott, but I think you're overlooking Chris Cornell.
