So did The Crue.

It all comes down to writing good riffs and catchy choruses, no matter the genre.  Something the crue hasn't done since the 80's.  That will be the difference between the Crue's attempt at a comeback and Axl's.

It's all down to a matter of opinion, but I thought Motley Crue's 1994 self-titled album and "Generation Swine" were great albums and they barely resembled what the Crue sounded like in the 80's. But then I guess people don't really like change.

Motley went back to their lame 80's sound after that, such a shame with the potential they showed...
Let us please leave the Crue Out of this. Motley Crue are a great band.

You didn't read what I wrote - I really liked the albums that the Crue put out that showed there was more to them than their cheesy 80's style, but they dismissed those albums and went back to their lame sound again.

But you may possibly change your mind after listening NINs new release. And GNRs one. Roll Eyes

Maybe I?ll change my mind, just speaking at the moment from what I've heard in the past. By the way, I don't think they're style will change that much

yesterday I went to a music Store in Paris and tried to give another chance to NIN. I took an album (released in 1995), listened to it and... I can't. I'm sorry but I don't understand that "kind" of music. It's weird, I heard computers effects everywhere, there was no drums but computers effects, ultra-satured guitars, and ultra trafficated voice.
It sounded terrible for me. Unless you are crazy, mad or totally psychatric, I can't understand how somebody can appreciate "that". Huh It smells like death. It's violent. It's scary.
Definitely one of the worthiest kind of music (Indus) I have ever heard, with Ministry and other bands like that.
I hope "chinese democracy" won't be like that? no? crying

You listened to "Further Down The Spiral", a remix album.  hihi

Some great remixed on that one.

Did you miss listening to "Hurt"? Definitely not noise. Then again, I'm crazy and mad.  Tongue

Maybe it's called "March Of The Pigs" or "Into The Void"?

It's not difficult to get into it at all. Some songs maybe, but Trent has done some very easily accessible stuff too.

in fact I think I prefer Rock n' Roll, with guitars, drums, bass, piano and keyboard. I'm definitely "Classic Rock"  Wink

Don't base your opinion of NIN on remix albums. They're not very good IMO. My personal favourite has always been the first one, "Pretty hate machine". Once you've gone past the fact that the synth sounds very outdated (like early Depeche Mode or something), it just floors you. Well it floored me at least  Grin

Pretty Hate Machine used to be my favorite, the lyrics remain my fav' ... For the music now it's the downward spiral ... hurt, closer or big man with a gun are amazing songs.
Try Starfuckers, inc : The fragile album !
NIN is not listener friendly at the beginning but if you hold on it's just amazing !  yes

Now I'm hearing Axl has been seen at System of a Down shows and wants to tour with them?  Where do people get there info at anyway?  I wish some kind of statement from AXL HIMSELF would go down sometime soon!

Hey everyone,

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I got in contact with NIN's manager, Jim Guerninot of Rebel Waltz Management.  I asked him if there was any truth to the rumor that NIN might embark on a Spring tour with GN'R, and possibly System of a Down.  He said "Neither are true".

Just wanted to share that.

it's pretty exhausting to do a gig, doing 2 (of that size too) would probably be impossible for most of the worlds artists

I have no clue how Trent thinks of Axl but at least Axl supported NIN back before they became really big
before what? I've never heard of NIN before I read Axl's interviews about this band. I discovered that a band called "NIN" existed around 2001...never heard of them before that.
For me bands who became "really big" are bands like: queen, U2, Guns n' roses, dire straits, oasis, nirvana etc...

Funny. I heard about NIN in 1991 when they opened for GN'R. They became the biggest band in that industrial genre in 1994 when they released "The Downward Spiral". Johnny Cash (RIP) even covered a song written by Trent Reznor.

NIN and GN'R on the same tour would be amazing. Always wanted to see those bands (never seen this GN'R line up).

But I don't think it will happen. I don't think any of them would want to be the "opening act".

/jarmo

True.  But they did find a way around that when they toured with Metallica -  alternating "opening" and "headliner" slots AND having other bands open?
