Well, the news seems to be out .... Roger spilled the beans on his interview with the Wettendass Web-page gal .... so I endorsed it.
And this time it's not just a rumour. We are in the process of looking at venues for a QUEEN tour in the spring. It really all came about because of the Fender 50th Anniversary gig that I did with Paul Rodgers. We were both so amazed at the chemistry that was going on in All Right Now, that suddenly it seems blindingly obvious that there was "something happening here". And if we were to play together some more, which we both thought was an exciting possibility, who would be the drummer
Well, the expression "No Brainer" comes to mind. Then the UK Hall of Fame awards just came up out of the blue. Apparently we had won one of the categories and the request was there for us to play. I had already had the conversation with Roger at this point, about how brilliant Paul Rodgers was, and, since, very conveniently, he had also been asked to be there, we agreed we would ask Paul if he would team up with us for this event.
The rest in a way is already History. The show went so incredibly well from our point of view, and we got so many rave reactions from out there, we decided almost then and there that we would look at a tour together.
This is what we have been doing over the last two or three weeks, looking at venues, discussing how we might approach our collective material, etc. etc.
It's very exciting .... ever since the run-up to that Awards show, I felt in my waters that something big and scary was happening. Scary because as soon as you press the button for something like this you set a massive juggernaut into motion which cannot be stopped ! So bang goes the home life, and anything else we might have planned for the coming months. Suddenly the QUEEN Phoenix is rising again from the ashes, and will take precedence over everything in our lives. So be it. So there ya go. I won't go into more details right now, but, barring accidents, QUEEN and PAUL RODGERS will be on the road, pretty much for sure, around April 2005
.
Well, I don't agree with the idea of them touring under the Queen name (in the absence of Freddie and John Deacon), and I've never been keen on Paul Rodgers and Free. However, This must be the most exciting music news I've heard in ages - I'm as hyped about this as I would be about the relaease of Chinese Democracy. I really am!

Wy isn't John Deacon joining them?
And Roger Taylor should be the frontman, he's incredible! Plus, people would be less offended if a drummer would be brought into the band than a lead singer

If John was involved that would be cool - as it is...er....this is hardly a Queen tour its just the latest line up of the Brian May band.

How can they call this queen?
Freddie WAS queen.
If they had a new band, with brian & roger, I'd understand but.. this?
Fuck off. Tossers.

Freddie WAS queen.
Well that isn't entirely true. Queen was a team effort from the four members. Sure, when you think about Queen, Freddie's voice pops into your head, but the other three are all incredible musicians, and they all wrote songs. Queen's biggest hit single, "Another one bites the dust", was written by John Deacon.

John Deacon has not partaken in any post Freddie Queen activities since 1997, and that includes really big things like thier Hall of Fame induction and the Golden Jubilee concert at Buck House. He is more or less retired, and there is more chance of Matt Sorum rejoining Gn'R than John Deacon performing as part of 'Queen' again. It's a real shame really - Deacon was a very underrated and undervalued melodic bassist, and of course wrote some cracking songs like 'You're My Best Friend', 'Another One Bites the Dust' and 'Spread your Wings'.

He is very charismatic, but his voice is sounding weak nowadays (and the man himself is looking kind of ill also
). I reckon he might step out from behind the kit to sing the odd song like 'Radio GaGa'.

Fair comment - many of the other musicians involved are likely to be Brians associates. Still, he hasn't toured solo for a while, sothat's reason enough to look forward to this.

Well in despite of the topic, I disagree totally with the Queen tour, I don't think that they are respecting John and Freddie, is like they left them behind like they were nothing, they should use other name or at least their names to tour not Queen's name, but if you ask me if I would go to the concert HELL YES I WILL GO!!

I think it would be better if John Deacon was a part of this. I know it is hard to pull something like this off without Freddie. But it is cool for the fans that never got to see they live. Wonder if they will tour the U.S. also maybe in the summer or fall.

This is rich, GNR fans complaining about Brian May touring under the Queen name even though some of the most prominent original members are no longer with the band. The same backlash being expressed here is the same thing that is being said about GNR on non-GNR biased boards, that it is ridiculous to pretend it's still the same band even though the highly visible iconic originals(freddie specifically) are no longer around(which is really a shame he had to go so early).

Sorry to be negative but Queen ain't Queen without Freddie. I mean when you have a frontman like him you just can't tour under the old name once he's gone. I liked how some bands changed the name slightly when something similar happened. I thought it was respectful and you still recognized them. Like the Grateful dead toured as The Dead after jerry was gone.

and The Doors 21st Century with Ian Astbury. Even if they modified the name slightly, you'd still get people bitching about it.
Anyway, I hope they come to the US. I would love to hear some Queen songs live.

They went out as the Doors of the 21st Centure because John Densmore filed a court injunction to keep them from performing under the name The Doors.
I find this very interesting, as Densmore is the only one in the Doors camp interested in keeping the Doors and Morrisons legacy intact, but by his autobiography, you can see Densmore hated Jim.
