Two years on missing Kirsty is found in USA
A NEWPORT woman who disappeared in America two years ago has been found safe and well in the US.
Kirsty Omerod, of Chepstow Road, went missing after travelling to Chicago on November 16, 2002, to see her idols Guns N' Roses at the All State Arena.
Since then Maindee police have been working with their American counterparts to try and find Kirsty, now aged 22.
She is now married to an American man and told police she will not return home.
DC John Giles, from Maindee CID, said: "Police in the US have found Kirsty and she is safe and well."
The investigation has involved Gwent Police, the National Missing Persons Helpline and American police.
DC Giles said Kirsty's family were relieved to hear she was alive.
He said: "She is living in America but does not want her location to be known by her family in the UK.
"There are no moves to bring her back over here."
Kirsty had travelled alone to see Guns N' Roses. Records show she checked into a Chicago hotel but left there four days later.
The last record of her movements until now was on November 20, 2002, when her credit card was used to withdraw a small amount of money from a cash point in America.
Detectives have kept an open mind about her whereabouts and there have been a number of unconfirmed sightings of Kirsty in the Newport area.
Police had looked at the possibilities she remained in America or had returned to the UK without being detected.
In 2003 it was thought she had returned home but darkened her hair in a bid to avoid detection.
Guns N' Roses also made an appeal for her to get in touch with her family.
Her family are in Leeds but she was living in Newport with her boyfriend at the time of her disappearance.
The former boyfriend has since moved to the north of England
