Appropriate Retribution

I once had a job in a lab where everything was expensive. Even small tubes of reagents could cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. One day, I incorrectly used a $5000 machine and it stopped working.  It would take a ton of work to repay that damage, but luckily a simple repair fixed it! I was told, however, that I was a good employee, and that it was a simple mistake I had made. I wouldn't have been fired at all, in fact, I wouldn't have had to repay all $5000.

The worker I replaced didn't do any damage. In fact, he didn't do anything. He was very lazy and he took no risks. He was fired for missing work one too many times. This was appropriate retribution.

There's a lesson here. Bureaucrats who make mistakes 90% of the time usually go unnoticed because their mistakes are small, but they add up. Risk takers who get it right 90% of the time are the ones who usually get the axe when that 10% looks expensive all at once. But over time, it's the bureaucrats who cost the most...

After the hurricane Katrina disaster, people want bureaucrats to be "held accountable" (fired in politespeak) for the disaster, but the problem is the system, not the lampreys who are just along for the ride on the shark, so to speak. Instead of trying to fix the unfixable, it would be better if the whole bureaucracy was permanently removed and leave the rescue to free market entrepreneurs. They might make spectacular mistakes 10% of the time, but they would usually do better than incompetent government workers.

Take risks and don't let those 10% setbacks hold back your 90% contribution. Don't fear retribution, just get the job done no matter what.

Its hard for "my crew" to keep up the conversations when (1) they keep getting banned (puts us at a disadvantage don't you think), and (2) when ever a point is made by one of us you liberals all cry "racist".  I can't get over how sensitive you boys are.  I'd say there is a systematic removal of conservative thought going on in this forum as we speak.

As for my banning, I lost actual friends in 9/11....if you think calling Arabs "towelheads" in the emotionally heated months following 9/11 is offensive then you are just plain crazy and way too sensitive to be actual man.  Outside the Arab world, there may be 5 people who think like that.  Have you every heard an off color or racist joke and thought it was funny?  I have....all the time.  Does it make me racist?  No more than it makes Chris Rock racist to tell white people jokes...which is to say not at all.  You don't have a clue as to the meaning of racist and where to apply the term.  You miss use it (liek OJ did) to further your agenda.
