am i the only one who got bored to death whenever AXL would take 25 minutes in the set to let the drummer play a drum solo, then a guitar solo then 30 fuckin minutes later the show resumes...thank god for the fast forward button on my dvd player and stereo so when i watch or listen to bootlegs i can FF that shit..........Heres hoping Axl doesnt go back to that shit this spring...nobody cares about 20 minute drum solos..1 minute is enuf

I'm with you. I never liked that kind of stuff. ?yes it's nice that the drummer can play drums and the guitar player can play guitar but I don't need them to prove it with some pointless solo that does absolutely nothing to add to the show. It takes all the momentum out of the show in my opinion.

that's ir tight there takes the momentum right out.... it also makes a show that is really 2 hours long seem like it's so much longer.. Instead of adding two or 3 more songs you get that.. I do like an extended team instrumental of a song, just not tons of individual playing..

Matt's solos were awesome. The Brain/bucket thing was a bit boring that sossago thing that Robin done was cool, I think he should do more shit like that.

Ugh all the solos fucking suck! I only liked the Godfather stuff from Slash which was cool but just 25min of boring crap should never be suffered again, if Axl needs a rest then the other should sing a cover or whatever.

Oh for sure. The extended intros like on Double Talkin Jive and the extended outros like on Jungle are awesome.

its the same as saying Guitar solos sucks..! Each drummer have a own sound.
I would live to see Brain drum the hell out of his drumset i about 5 minutes...
But i agree they shouldent be that long. The one Matt is doing on the Tokyo
concert, is a bit too long, and gets borrrring!

actually judging by the new tracks, i think we would be more apt to hear a drum MACHINE solo.

The drum solo seemed even longer in person, when I saw GNR in Mpls in Jan '92 I think he did that at about 2AM, its tough to be enthused for a drum solo when you've been up for 20 hours already.

The Slash and Buckethead solos was a much better bridge than the drum solos smoking

As far as I know, GN'R haven't had a drum solo in their set since 1993....  Huh

I think they had one at the HOB 01/01/2001.

Yeah, one minute or so..... A bit different from the Matt Sorum solo during the Use Your Illusion tour.  hihi

/jarmo
It wasn't just a drum solo, but rather Buckethead's robotic dance and nunchaku (sp?) performance.

When there was a solo the main purpose of it was to give Axl a rest, and allow him to regain his voice for the remainder of the set. Do you have any idea how hard it is to sing with the intensity that Axl does for an entire show?  Try singing at the top of your lungs for even 5 minutes an you'll see what I mean...but I do have to agree with the point that most drum solo's blow. One of my favorite bands, Widespread Panic, plays an approx 15 minute solo with 2 percussionist nightly at their shows, and it bores me to tears.

Again, with them it is to rest the vocalist usually and the guitarists also. It is very hard to play guitar for 20 minutes straight, much less a few hours.

retards. lol

good drum solos rock. yes im a drummer. BUT they should be limited to a few minutes.

however, noone can claim that john bonhams solos in moby dick were anything short of amazing and they lasted 20mins easily!

i love a good solo from every band member thats short and sweet, but i do prefer them in the context of a song and not on their own - ie like moby dick. i love it when the band all kicks back in to the last chorus or wotever!

also, we need more bass solo!! where are they?!

so i think a 5-10 minute solo bit (featuring each band member and gradually layering it up) in a 2 hour set is good for showing off musicianship and giving the lead singer a break. BUT please make it in the context of a song or something like Godfather!!

Yeah.  I dont recall Brain doing a solo when I saw them in '02.

As for the original question, I dont mind a drum solo if it's short and sweet.  Something like 5 minutes.  I dont mind a guitar solo being 45 minutes as long as it's someone worth listening to. (Wylde, Satch, Page, etc)
