I love GNR as much as anyone on the board, but in the year 2006 Jay-Z is a much bigger player in the musical world than GNR. His mug will be plastered all over MTV and other music outlets. Outside of maybe Eminem or Diddy he is the biggest name in pop music culture.

It is just retarded to go up against him when you can have all the spotlight to yourself a week earlier.

A year before we weren't sure, if there's an album at all.
Now we are arguing about days.

If they plan to release it on November 21st, 2006, then maybe it means that they are confident enough in the album to beat out Jay-Z's 'comeback' record in the billboard charts. Maybe they have some secret stragety. Who knows...

Although, I don't think Chinese Democracy would beat Jay Z's album to the #1 spot. If released on the same week then I see C-Democracy selling 600,000 copies while Jay-Z's album sells 800,000 copies (I'm speaking of 1st week terms of course).

I'd love to be wrong though. Smiley

I've heard the name Jay-Z, but that's as far as it goes.. I could care less if he releases a new album.. With fans like us buying the album, GnR is going to stomp it into the ground..

I feel like I am 14 years old again, finding out the release date of the Illusions. ?Maybe I am getting too excited, but heck, Rollingstone is no National Inquirer. It would be awesome to have the CD before the two shows I plan on attending. Plus I know what I am getting everyone for a Xmas present.

I don't think it really matters. As long as the album is GOOD I don't care how well it does, although I'm sure Axl does.

I'm hoping this one doesn't end up on the internet before-hand like all others do..

I won't lie - I'd download it in a heartbeat.

I hope it does leak and I hope it DOESN'T leak at the same time.

It's the pain of waiting until November 21st and then the prospect of hearing it sooner.  hihi

Man the boad is about to explode!

And for those of you who have heard of the name "Jay-Z" but really don't know much about him, his album will most likely beat out CD. It's doesn't matter if you do or do not like rap/hip-hop or anything like that, Jay-Z has been around for years, is a rap icon, and has legions of fans just like GN'R does.

I'm not implying that anyone said this, but just because he isn't a rock musican doesn't mean he can't sell millions of CD's.

And no, I'm not a Jay-Z fan either.

Fuck Jay-Z. ?I say we put our money where our mouths are and buy as many copies as we can afford. ?This will help Axl move up the charts and serve as a great vehicle to promote the band. ?Hey, who doesn't like free music? ?Cmon guys, let's do this!!

No other better tuesday than that.

Yeah right. Jay-Z releases his big comeback album "Kingdom Come", which is going to move like a bazillion copies.

I was really hoping that GNR would avoid this date in particular because they need to be able to proclaim a #1 album as it makes for very positive press.

I know we all like to think that the world is waiting with baited breath on a new GNR album, but there is a very good chance that Jay would move more copies that week than GNR. Having CD debut at #2 would be very disappointing, not to mention that it would lose its day in the spotlight with Jay overshadowing its release.

The 14th is a much better date in terms of avoiding this problem, but they always do things ass backwards so why should this be any different.

And , its 2 complete diferent kinds of public

GN'R has a wider base of listeners in general.

That said, most of the people who buy the albums are younger kids. But then again, a lot of them download, too; and older listeners who would be into GN'R and curious to hear CD could be in their 30s and 40s and not be as technologically savvy, and therefore buy the album.

I work at a music store and 90% of the people who buy albums are in their 30s and 40s I'd say, most young kids don't and I think it's because of downloading and burning copies.

So there's a chance Jay-Z would be second if it works out that way.

Thanks Russian Roulette...

same here. And it would be much more exciting to watch it climb the charts (like Appetite did) based on word of mouth and strength of the album, than to watch it fall from debuting at No. 1.....

Well to be fair they're discussing the financial aspect of the record, all it means is that they care enough about GN'R to hope they do well on the charts. I personally think it's kind of pointless because I'm sure the album will have lasting power, but putting it up against Jay-Z was guaranteed to spark discussion like this.

I get that, but there are a lot of positive aspects to being able to say that you had the #1 album in the country. Not to mention that there will be every bit as much media focus, if not more on the Jay album that week than GNRs. It is just the way it is right now. The guy is a living legend in the rap game, and that is the dominant media in music right now.

I just can't for the life of me figure out why you would choose to risk being overshadowed by another artist that week when there are no name-worthy releases on either side of that week, the 14th and the 28th.

They put it out when they think it's the best time, we buy it.

That's the thing.

Obviously there's always gonna be other albums competing against each other. There's probably no perfect release date in that sense.
