As they gear up for the November 21 release of their highly anticipated Epic debut and the New Year's Eve launch of their much-buzzed-about national tour, ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA have suffered a major setback with the loss of all-star bassist Jason Newsted.

The former METALLICA member is scheduled for immediate surgery to repair a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right. Newsted suffered the injuries while trying to catch a 90-pound bass head that had fallen from atop his amp. The surgery will be followed by a lengthy rehab assignment that could leave him sidelined for up to nine months.

"I'm freaking out," says Newsted, "My heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys, but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100%. The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck."

The band ? rounded out by vocalist Lukas Rossi, drummer Tommy Lee (M?TLEY CR?E) and guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) ? is currently searching for a suitable replacement to handle touring duties while Newsted recovers.

"When we started this project, I was handed a list of names ? guys who could potentially anchor our rhythm section," says Lee. "I responded by crumpling up the paper and asking, 'Where's Newsted?' Jason was always the right guy for this band and we'll miss having him with us as we kick off our album and tour, but we know he'll be back as soon as he can pick up and play. As for who will handle bass duties until then, we've got a few monster guys in mind, any one of which can hit the ground running. Stay tuned."

It's an amplifier, when you have a lot of money you buy a head (guitar or bass) and hook it up to speaker cabinets. Shitty deal for Jason though.....

There goes 1/3 tickets sales...

The way I look at is, people who will go see them play are either GN'R (Gilby), Motley Crue (Tommy) or Metallica (Jason) fans. I doubt anyone is going along to see that tool Lukas Rossi.

The Rock Star thing sucked massively and I would recommend any 'rocker' to avoid it like the plague.  One of the most fake things since Jordan's tits.

I would've though that gay men would have more of a liking for him than women, seeing as he looks like a woman with all that makeup on... nervous

I still think they should've picked Toby.

I have always liked Jason and I am totally bummed that he is not going on the tour.  Has put me off buying tickets because as much as I like Gilby, Tommy & Lukas, it just wont be the same without Jason, he was the major draw card for me.

I'll be shocked if Newsted ever even plays 1 show with this band. He didn't really seem in to it on the show and looked confused half the time. Somebody that's been in Flotsam&Jetsom,Metallica, and Voivod doesn't really belong in this band, IMO.

You were one of only about 15-17,000-not many people will buy this album-I feel bad for Gilby-to emphasize how bad sales were, Gilby's debut album sold about 52,000 total-I doubt this one will reach that-I feel bad for him-I respect and like Gilby a lot-it will be interesting to see if some tour dates are scaled back/cancelled

Right.  He was *forced* to sit out by two main factors: common sense and dignity.

No need to feel bad for him. He made a bad decision, he should live with the consequences. You go on reality TV to find your singer, you get what you deserve, frankly.
