Givin' Up - the Darkness

My mamma wants to know
Where I'm spending all my dough
Honey, all she does is nag, nag, nag
But I won't apologise
I'd inject into my eyes
If there was nowhere else to stick my skag

All I want is brown
And I'm going into town
Shooting up as soon as I'm back
My friends have got some good shit
All I want is some of it
Gimme, gimme, gimme that smack

Well I've ruined nearly all of my veins
Sticking that fucking shit into my arms

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Givin' up, givin' up givin' a fuck
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Givin' up, givin' up givin' a fuck

Getting off my face
There's a dragon I must chase
Honey, I'm the scourge of all mankind
And everyone but me
Is destined just to be
Slaves to the remorseless grind

But I found myself an easy way out
Sticking that fucking shit into my arms
Into my arms

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Givin' up, givin' up givin' a fuck
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Givin' up, givin' up givin' a fuck

Not my fav. song, but I love these lyrics,

"Sometimes I wanna kill
 sometimes I wanna die
 sometimes I wanna destroy
 sometimes I wanna cry

 Sometimes I could get even
 sometimes I could give up
 sometimes I could give
sometimes I never give a fuck"

Yeah "Don't Damn Me" has great lyrics! But there are really too many great songs with great lyrics so I possibly couldn't pick just one, or even five or ten for that matter! It's not only the lyrics but the delivery of them is also what's important "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me x13" is a good example.

Dust N' Bones is of my favs..  it's got everything from great music, laidback rhythm, catchy riff and cool solos till great lyrics which are cool, funny but also deep at the same time.

He lost his mind today
He left it out back on the highway
On "65"

She loved him yesterday
Yesterday's over
I said okay
That's all right
Time moves on
That's the way
We live an hope to see the next day
That's all right

Sometimes these things they are so easy
Sometimes these things they are so cold
Sometimes these things just seem to rip you right in two
Oh no man don't let 'em get ta you

She loved him yesterday
He laid her sister
She said O.K.
And that's all right
Buried her things today
Way back out deep
Behind the driveway
And that's all right

Sometimes these women are so easy
Sometimes these women are so cold
Sometimes these women seem to rip you right in two
Only if you let 'em get to you

Ya get out on your own
And you take all that you own
And you forget about your home
And then you're just fuckin' gone

There's no logic here today
Do as you got to, go your own way
I said that's right
Time's short your life's your own
And in the end
We are just
Dust n' bones

I mean, it may not be the best of writing all the time, but in as far as capturing a moment in a lot of peoples life, not just a period of time, in part self examination and the feeling of youth, you can take anything from The Who's Quadrophenia and it will blow you away.

I've had enough of dancehalls,
I've had enough of pills,
I've had enough of streetfights,
I've seen my share of kills.
I'm finished with the fashions,
And acting like I'm tough,
I'm bored with hate and passion,
I've had enough of trying to love.

'I've Had Enough.'

Zoot suit, white jacket with side vents
Five inches long.
I'm out on the street again
And I'm leaping along.
I'm dressed right for a beach fight,
But I just can't explain
Why that uncertain feeling is still
Here in my brain.

'Cut My Hair.'

I have to be careful not to preach
I can't pretend that I can teach,
And yet I've lived your future out
By pounding stages like a clown.
And on the dance floor broken glass,
The bloody faces slowly pass,
The broken seats in empty rows,
It all belongs to me you know.

'The Punk and the Godfather.'

The beach is a place where a man can feel
He's the only soul in the world that's real.

'Bell Boy.'

Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky.
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high.

'Love Reign O'er Me.'

I guess it also helps that it is one of the best vocally recorded albums ever, but then again so are most Who albums.  ok

I might get slammed for this but I think The Killers  "Mr Brightside" is well written lyrically..  Not the best all-time, just a good recent example.

Nice point on "Rage" Rocksteady.  ok

the lyrics to Simple Man are among my favorites.

Simple Man
(by Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington)

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... don?t live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you?ll find love,
And don?t forget son,
There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won?t you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man?s gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

Boy, don?t you worry... you?ll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

IMO Estranged is the best song ever, and will ever be, written!

Also the lyrics to Madagasvar is beyond perfect

The Spy

I'm a spy in the house of love.
I know the dream, that you're dreamin' of.
I know the words that you long to hear.
I know your deepest, secret fear.
I'm a spy in the house of love.
I know the dream, that you're dreamin' of.
I know the words that you long to hear.
I know your deepest, secret fear.
I know ev'rything.
Ev'rything you do.
Ev'rywhere you go.
Ev'ryone you know.
I'm a spy in the house of love.

« Reply #19 on: October 28, 2006, 05:29:20 PM »

many thinks this is a gn'r song 'cause some downloading crap blabla, other people think it's tenacious d but no, it's laughing colors and by that said.. not the best lyrics ever but fucking cool yes ok hihi

laughing colors - war on drugs

it was long ago, seems like a dream.
the day I sucked the air, from a bottle of whipped cream
and i got real high and things got real slow
and i started talking like this

what's going on? i don't know
and then i sold my car
for a Greatful Dead ticket
my dad yelled at me, and he grounded me
and he said i was a dick,
it was the worst day of my life
and i'll never forget

but the very next day I was doing bong hits
in the back of my friend's chevette
so don't tell me "we're winning the war on drugs"
cause drugs are like a big ol' can of raid
and you're all little bugs
and don't tell me
to not get high

cause i'm as low as i can get
without kissing your ass
and blowing you at the same time

CHORUS:
man, don't tell me about love and peace
or that the Joneses have a handgun
pointed at me
don't tell me to just say no
i'm an addict, i say don't let me go
whatever happened to sex drugs n' rock n' roll?
now we just have AIDS crack and techno

so they busted me
so i say "fuck them fuckers"
for selling dope
and i went to jail, and i wasn't forgiven
like that little fucker who shot the pope
and he said i had the right to remain silent
and they couldn't explain

but i didn't resist, and i was invited
cuz all i ever wanted was the right to remain
and they questionned me
yeah, they asked me "why?"
and i said
i don't think i should be shot
for selling pot
it's just my little way of saying "hi"
now my record's all fucked up
and i'm not aloud to vote
two times a week
they made me piss in a cup
well what i want to do
is piss down their throats

Chorus again...

okay, here's the sensitive part...
they told me
that times had changed
cause our parents had
Hendrix, Janice and Jim
but what about
River Phoenix and Kurt Cobain
and they told me
to praise the lord
but i've been waiting for so long
for him to call me back
i think i'm gonna go pray
at Betty Ford
and they told me
that life was fair
but i can't smoke a plant that was made by God
but i can kill my wife if i'm a football player
and they told me,
they told me to just ignore
but i'd rather smoke crack
outta Nancy Reagan's skull
while gettin' a blowjob
from Tipper Gore

Chorus again
