a band who go from playing decent rock to the equivilent of indie, is why there earlier stuff is better.

and what are you on, RATT, pantera and even posino piss over pearl jam who only did 2 decent albums.

I just have my own opinion, don't call me out personally... but jesus you like RATT and whoever posino is supposed to be.  Get a life and figure out what good music is.  Get out of the eighties, respect a band that still releases albums and shows up for their tours and then tell me how good RATT, Nickelback, Poison and any other hair band you'd like to refute to me loser!

nickleback are not a glam band, they are in fact a product of your grunge shit you cunt.

Get out of the eighties? mate i was never in the 80s, i wasnt born in the 80s. i like alot of 80s music, but i like alot of 70s music, and 60s music too. i also like a fair few bands from this decade, so shut your mouth, oh also, poison do still release albums and do still have shows, they tour yearly.

RATT split up because of drug problems, and then finally robbin died because of aids. They reformed recently, without the bassist and have started to tour and maybe do a new album, so get your facts straight before you claim that i should figure out what good music is.

If your think your music is so good then tell me:

which music was more likely to influence guns n roses?

the 80s glam scene, or the shitty 90s grunge scene? Oh wait, gnr were out of the 80s, what most fans would consider there best album came out in the 80s, damn gnr must be a shit band, cause they also wore sleazy clothes and in the earlier days also had teased hair, damn guns n roses are another shit band compared to pearl jam, a band whos singer can CLEARLY still sing live  Roll Eyes

go figure you ignorant asshole.

oh one more point

Quote
respect a band that still releases albums
Why are you even here with a retarded claim like that when the very band this forum supports hasnt had an album of original material out since 1991.

Well , if it's just your opinion , who are you to go around defining what "GOOD" music is?
I personally do not like the music you are refering to as "GOOD" , and labeling bands as "Hair" in the 80s is like labeling bands of today "Pierce" so don't put anyone down , because they wore certain clothes and makeup or hairstyles, just to try and livin up there shows or appearence. There are some "Hair" bands I like and some that I don't.They are not all created equal.Even if a band don't tour anymore , is that no reason to like them?I'm sure the "Awesome" stuff you like now , will also get older , and your "Awesome" bands will stop touring eventually , too.It takes money to keep bands going.

Underrated

1. The Answer
You rock! The Answer kick ass, but I think they'll be very big very soon. You can't keep talent down, and The Answer have it in spades. Paul Mahon is an awesome guitarist and Cormac Neeson is the first proper rock singer I've heard in ages. He's really channeling Paul Rodgers and Robert Plant, and that's a great combination.

EDIT - Underrated -

1. The Answer - see above
2. Free - what an amazing band. Their early blues stuff is brilliant, but it's the later, more soul-inspired stuff that really does it. My Brother Jake, Get Where I Belong, Magic ship, just stunning. And they had one of the best singers ever in Paul Rodgers.
3. Nils Lofgren - a great guitarist, but nobody's ever heard of him. He played in the E Street Band, with Neil Young and his solo material is some of the best American rock around. Criminally underrated.
4. The Faces - Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Stay With Me, Had Me A Real Good Time, so why does everyone only remember Rod's solo albums?
5. Cream - should be as big as Zeppelin, in my opinion. Powerful and inspired blues rock, and has there ever been a better power trio than Clapton, Bruce and Baker?

I don't actually believe I said anything about hair or makeup, Mr. Sensitive.? I just think, well, wow.? And to that other idiot, yeah Gn'R were around in the 80's but no they didn't take their music from glam nor 90's grunge as you call it.? They were the kick in the ass 80's bands like Ratt and poison needed.? Furthermore, pearl jam is the closest thing to rock n fucking roll we have right today, taking influence from greats like Jimi Hendrix, the Who, Neil Young, all of which is very evident in many of their recordings.? The Lyrics, the music and the songwriting are just amazing.? You're right, I shouldn't have bad mouthed your favorite bands because we all have opinions... I just think glam rock sucks and that is why GNR are freaking amazing because they were the SWIFT kick in the ass those stupid ass bands needed, as does todays queer music like Nickelback!!!!!? UHHHHH!

lets get a few things straight.

you go watch almost any 80s guns n roses interview and they will mention they think motley crue rock, and they were real excited to support them on tour at the time, untik they fell out.

Also there advert was "glam metal blues punk guitarist" which slash answered, because guns n roses take influences from all the generations of music, and glam was one of them, early gnr had a glam image (im talkin 85/85)

nickelback are quite crap i agree, but they are a product of grunge being commercialised, they share no qualities with glam in anyway.

Im going to approach this thread differently, Im going to say albums by bands- over and under rated.

UNDER RATED

Nirvana -  In Utero:

To myself it was probably nirvanas strongest album, often overshadowed by the bands previous album nevermind .On In Utero the band really seemed to come togethor and gave a big finger in the air to the record labels, much rawer than the bands prior effort  (nevermind) that bought them stardom, but is never regarded as their finest. Smells like teen spirit was probably one of nirvanas most (pop)ular but weakest songs, the lesson however boys and girls is that if a product is manufactured and sold in the right way, it will sell. This band had much potential to be bigger than Zep if given time.

OVER RATED

ummm, i cant be fucked typing. will do later

Glam Rock - the look was big hair, make up and shiny clothes. Perhaps started by T-Rex. The Sweet, The Bay City Rollers and NZ band Hush were all glam. In Australia Skyhooks and Sherbert came from Glam. The muisc style can be identified by a distinct heavy guitar sound.
I can hear this influence in some earlier GnR.

thats your opinion. You shouldnt judge a band on how they dress. I remember when I was just like you. I refused to listen to 80s rock, Kiss or bands like that when I was younger. But then, I opened up more and listend to bands like RATT, Dokken, Cinderella, KISS etc. and you know what?? they had REALLY good songs with Good musicianship. Are there some crappy 80s bands like Warrant etc.?? yes! but to judge a whole genre on a few bad bands is stupid and I found out!!

I think its Stupid to judge bands/genre as a whole. I listen to bands from every decade. I dont care. if the song is good, I could give a crap less what the band looks like.

ill listen to Megadeth, Ratt, Alice in chains, jimi hendrix, zeppelin, muse et

Underrated-
1. The Ramones-In my opinion you would be pretty damn hard pressed to find any band that ever started off their careers with 4 albums quite as good. Admittedly they fell off alot after that, still making good songs but never quite being as great as they were. Alot of their thunder is stolen by The Sex Pistols.
2.
a. Alice In Chains
b. Soundgarden-
I have these bands tied for alot of reasons. First off, it's hard for me to pick who I love more. I think both of them were AMAZING bands who were sadly overshadowed by a scene. Both of them were just labeled as part of "Grunge" (which was really a fashion, not a style of music) when they were so much more. Both of them have styles you could describe as being a combination of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Both of them had some of the best vocalists in rock history. Jerry Cantrell's solo work is also worth mentioning as underrated.
4. Bad Religion-The most prolific punk band ever. Incredibly intelligent without ever coming off as forced. Suffer is the best punk rock album ever. Helped me score a 700 verbal on my SATs in highschool.
5. Megadeth-Not to start a Metallica vs. Megadeth debate, but since 1990 Dave has owned the rivalry without question to me. Rust In Peace is better than the black album. Countdown to Extinction, and Cryptic Writings are better than Load and ReLoad (Never cared too much for Youthanasia). And Especially since Dave has come back incredibly strong on The System Has Failed and United Abominations While Metallica is taking decades between albums that are unlistenable (St. Anger anyone?) It's just a shame because 25 years ago Dave had something to do with them that Megadeth will always be overshadowed.

Overrated
1. The Who-A Couple songs I think are good, not great, but other than that I just never got it. Musically it's all pretty generic and lyrically retarded.
2. U2- Again some songs that I think are really good but for the most part just boring. Never got why they've always been so hailed.
3. Van Halen- Obviously to knock Eddie's talent would be ignorant, but I just could never get into his playing at all. And the only songs I do dig by them are the old stuff and it's mostly cause of Dave's personality. "OK...1 break coming up!"
4. Judas Priest- Come on, Maiden has always been better. Alot of the songs are kind of corny and I have never been as impressed with Halford's voice as everyone else.
5. Nirvana- I Like them alot and would probably like them more if they weren't spoken of so reverently. Kurt was a great songwriter, a great singer, but a horrible guitar player. And a lot of the lyrics are just drugged out non-sense people try to convince you was extremely deep.
