I think it's possible dale cooper woke up facing his own issues and realising he isn't such a good guy after all, hence the bob image in the mirror.
I think he had run ahead of his own self, solving problems for other people and never contemplating his own.
After meeting death and madness, once the mysteries are solved, once he has fallen in love once more, there is much he has to cope with and he may be going a little nuts, many feelings overpowering him ?
