Use Your Illusion I (1991)

« Reply #9 on: June 18, 2008, 03:29:42 PM »

meh.

Never really liked either band a whole lot...

I got Dark Side of the moon (who in the hell doesn't) and echoes

Zep... they are cool

I haven't heard all their material, just the hits...

going from the hits, I like Floyd better

The Zeppelin for me.

I only know Floyd's more well-known songs (Comfortably Numb, See Emily Play, Money etc.) whereas I've got all of LZ's albums. Perhaps Pink Floyd are too sophisticated for someone like me Grin

However, I like The Nile Song by Floyd. It's on the album Music From The Film More and it's fairly heavy for them.

Also, Floyd have awesome album covers Cheesy

Since it's like comparing apples and oranges, and it all comes down to opinion, it's not exactly a "fair" thread, but it is really kind of cool to see who everyone around here favors.  They both have a lot to offer...

I'd go with "The Wall," but I'm sure there are plenty of "Dark Side of the Moon" fans out there...

^ This guy is completely off the mark!

... At least as far as The Wall goes. Your biggest mistake would be to look at either of those two albums, with a view that they're the best that the band had to offer

(though I'm not necesarily saying that was not the case with the latter...).

My advice would be to look past those two albums to begin with. I guess it depends what Floyd you're after... If it's the trippy psychedelic rock along the lines of See Emily Play with Lucifer Sam and all the like, then your only choice is Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Err. A fantastic album!, but not necesarily a great Pink Floyd album.

... Well, it was. But, err, looking at the career as a whole, it wasn't. Though it remains one of my top five. Err.

I'm not sure actually.

... Wait!!, I just reread your question. I thought that it was one to start off with. Bollocks to this post then, maybe DSotM is the album that you have to hear.

Actually. Animals. Definitely, Animals.

... Which also means that I should apologise to bazgnr for saying he was off the mark, because I guess he wasn't that far off it after all. Despite the fact that The Wall < Wish You Were Here, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals... And so on. Plus, I just noticed the Gob and Franklin avatar!, nice work.
