Who?

« on: October 06, 2008, 02:28:10 PM »

Well this show starts here in the UK this weekend and after seeing advert after advert, I'm quite interested and plan on checking it out.

I realise there have been a few episodes in the states and just wondered what people thought of it so far? (Without divulging spoilers...obviously)

The show is from the dude behind Lost, here's the plot outline (copied and pasted from wiki)

Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, etc). All over the world, a series of apparent experiments collectively referred to as "the Pattern" (ex. a newborn baby who became 80 years old in a few minutes etc) are occurring for reasons unknown. Olivia, Peter, and Walter are in charge of investigating these strange events to determine their source. Connected to the Pattern is a company called Massive Dynamic, which is a leading global research company that holds the patents for a number of new and important technologies.

From the reception (also copied and pasted) the feedback I've so far found is fair decent.

The pilot episode was watched by 9.13 million viewers, garnering 3.2/9 Nielsen Ratings among adults 18-49, with ratings improving over the course of the episode.  The second episode, "The Same Old Story," fared much better ratings-wise, being watched by 13.27 million people and becoming the fifth most watched show of the week.  As of October 2008 the show had achieved the first place in the 18-49 demographic among new shows.  As a whole, the series was well received by the critics.

Its a cool show, a bit more linear than Lost, but very compelling.

Ha!  I was gonna start a thread on the show myself but figured nobody else was watching it!

I like it.  I'm a bit scared though that it will turn out like another sci-fi fav. of mine called Invasion which was cancelled right when it started picking up speed.  The cool thing about Fringe is that it's anything but slow.

This critic enjoys it!  It's a damn interesting program.   yes

I'm watching.

So far, so good.  Good individual, psuedo-science themed, eps with an interesting (so far) overarching mythology.

It's a bit more "concrete" than lost...though I half expect "Massive Dynamics" to display the Hanso logo.  Smiley

Full episodes right on Fox's web site.

Granted, you have to watch them on your PC or laptop.....

They're also all out on the various torrent sites, if you're looking from something you can burn to DVD.

I'd heard they might be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace, too...but haven't looked to see if they're there, yet.

I've really got into this program now.  I think we've had 8 episodes aired so far.

I loved the pilot then found myself struggling to enjoy the next few episodes, like many tv shows in the early stages I hadn't had a chance to get to know and love the characters.  Now I think they are fantastic.

Walter Bishop is one of the best characters on tv.  His relationship with his son I find fascinating and unique.  His son often mentions how he wishes his father was, well..."All there..." Yet it seems when his father was they weren't close and his father, heck, even experimented on him, despite him appearing not to enjoy having to babysit his father, he's actually a lot closer to him now than he ever was and it's great to see this bond grow, on top on that I find it quite hilarious to.  Some of the one liners from Doctor Bishop, the crazy yet genius aspect works perfectly when combined with his sons drohl sarcastic humour.

As well as that great stuff you have the main body, "The Pattern", and besides that a lot of great little stories that are clearly building up to the "Bigger Picture".

What a top show! Long may it survive!

I like the way that the episodes (especially lately) build on the previous week's, but still manage to keep things fresh.
Very cool stuff indeed.

Guys, i need some help.

I wanna get into this series, but i need to see it from the start of Season one really. Problem is, its not available to rent until end of september, and all the online streams are stupidly slow, ive only managed to watch 3 quarters of the first episode.

Any ideas?

I fixed my connection. Its fine again now. Its jsut alot of stream sites have alot of traffic so they are very slow, and often sourced from China or Japan.

By stream sites are you talking about watching it online?

I'm talking about downloading using something like BitTorrent.  All the TV Shows I get off sites like mininova.org are great quality.

Very cool show, I'm still watching.  Yeah, a lot of the things on it are pretty far out...but then again, 40 years ago Star Trek was virtually using the equivalent of cell phones.

Olivia kissing that stripper last week was nice.   Wink

Good news!

Fox has reportedly handed Fringe an early renewal for a second season.

The network has ordered 22 new episodes of the sci-fi show, which stars Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson, E! reports.

Its first season is scheduled to wrap up on May 12 in the US, while Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy is lined up to guest star in an upcoming episode.

"We were saving so many juicy secrets for years and years, and we're actually going to stick a bunch of them in the finale. That may be the worst idea ever, but we're doing it," co-creator Roberto Orci said.

Fox plan to announce the rest of their planned renewals or cancellations on May 18

Cheers for not spoiling it ok

I was cursing my stupidity for clicking on the thread and seeing the words season finale.

Being on Sky1 time I've just seen the spinal fluid one.

Checking Wikipedia, I have 2 episodes to go.  Good to see the finale got the highest ratings of the season, jumping from 9.2 for episode 19 to 13.5 for the finale.
