As promised? following a 5 year hiatus, The Darkness will make their return to the world stage on Friday 10th June 2011 at Donington Park where the band will keep the main stage warm for Def Leppard at this year?s Download Festival.

Prior to this event, The Darkness will be locked in an East Anglian studio working on tracks that will in time become the band?s third album.

For the avoidance of doubt, The Darkness is :
Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain, Ed Graham.

More news shall no doubt be forthcoming before too long. In the meantime, tickets for Download and further information can be found at : http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/2011/

Finaly!

If velvet Revolver ain't coming back then this is even better news!
of of the greatest bands of the last 10 years is coming back!

This is cool news, I always loved this band. I saw these play before Guns N' Roses at Rock In Lisbon 2006, and Justin was very complimentary towards GN'R. I love their songs, and they are excellent to play guitar to, I'm so glad they are back.  Grin

I'm surprised really that the original bassist is back, thought it might have been that bald guy who replaced him. Seems like these guys just needed some time apart, and in saying that, don't expect this to last long at all folks. It might be another 1-2 year run, in which they will announce another big break again.

Just have a feeling, but I do love these guys.  ok

Haha, yes I see that too.......now.  Wink

I actually love Gogol Bordello too, and they rocked at the Reading and Leeds festivals part opening for GN'R.

Not really. The whole thing about the darkness was the image aswell as the music. There music would have been laughed at if it wernt for the bands tongue in cheek image. The Darkness trying to look serious is just funny,

People really into this band?  I always thought they were a joke of Vanilla Ice proportions.  People actually follow this band further than that one song that was big for a minute?

I do understand you saying that Bodhi, because The Darkness never really hit the US. But in the UK and Europe they really were huge at one point. They've played Rock AM Ring, Rock In Rio Lisbon and The Reading Festival among others in Europe.

But I do understand the US not getting their humour, because Queen even struggled to break America due to Freddie's free spirited view of culture, and his tongue in cheek attitude.  Cheesy

In fact they were so huge in the UK that you couldn't go anywhere without seeing/hearing them, and what once was pretty funny and novel soon wore off resulting in practically nobody buying their second album because the whole of the damn country were fed up with them.

Pretty sure this comeback isn't going to be a success... the sooner they go away again, the better.

Yes, I do agree that they kind of burnt out everything on their debut album. And their second album although being good, fell short because people expected it to be the same kind of material that was on CD1, and people felt they had enough of that.

But in a way it's a shame because they was indeed going more and more in the same direction as the spandex plaid feel to Permission To Land, but it still rocked, whilst also growing and becoming accomplished songwriters.

As for you AxlReznor saying that they should go away again, I have to ask why?. Even if they are not your cup of tea, it's way better than listening to the commercialised pop/rap/r&b absolute shite that we here in the UK have to fuckin listen to.

I hope the Darkness come back and save us from the disaster which is the UK music industry. Come to think about it, things were much, much, much better when kids would try to sing "I believe in a thing called love" or try to play air guitar to "Love is only a feeling".  Cool

^ nothing can save rock music. Its been destroyed.

Put into a vicious cycle of fail. Lack of interest for a great band, means lack of money for a great band, means lack of life expectancy of a great band. A band who should have had a 12 album career make it to about 3 before calling it quits these days,

I have to say that I got sick of the Darkness a good three years before everyone else in the UK.

However, in hindsight, some of thier songs really did rock. Maybe if Justin gets some singing lessons and cans that god awful falsetto, I'll give them another chance...

It's hard because the thing that first attracted people to The Darkness was the whole gimmick of glam, and the comedic element of them still rocking as if it's 1970. But at the same time, that's what made them have a short shelf life, and I feel they must abandon that to move on.  Cheesy

These guys have the talent, so I think they should do exactly what they seem to be doing, which is to get serious. I would like to see them take on a more "real" feel, like X Japan, Zeppelin and Queen.

I can't wait to hear the new material.  ok

This reminds me of a story about Izzy jamming with 'The Project' back in October 2002. I remember Slash saying in a Guitar Magazine in 2004 where he went through the VR songs, he refered to Izzy when The Darkness was mentioned. Appearantly when Izzy jammed with them in 2002 and brought with him the ideas of 10 songs (which 5 months later turned into his Like A Dog album) he also brought with him a copy of The Darkness's first album.. Slash then said he wondered how on earth Izzy got turned on to them Grin And after that he said he thought The Darkness was alright, something different and taking the piss out of it.

Wow, that's such as cool story and I've never heard it before.  Smiley

So funny to think that Izzy was actually into these guys at one point, who knows he may still be a fan.  Grin
