Slash interview comments on new material
«

In case people haven't seen them, here's a few comments from a Slash interview in Chile recently:
"After South America, we'll go straight to Europe and do the festivals over there. And after Europe, we'll go back to the States and Canada to do our first Canadian tour plus some U.S. dates; and that goes until August. Then, after that, I’m gonna hook up with Guns N’ Roses. Guns N’ Roses has a small tour in October. And then, you know, there’s been so much talk about the Guns N’ Roses record, which we haven’t actually done anything with (laughs); so we’re gonna sort of focus on that. And the Conspirators will be some time coming up, depending on what Guns N’ Roses is doing, but I’ve already started putting together material for the new Conspirators record."
Probably the clearest statement we've had yet about his intentions.
It's clear that there is no new material for the time being, and that after October it's getting looked at....unless the Conspirators stuff takes over again.

I am not surprised.
I wonder what the small tour in October means.

"sort of"
"we haven't actually done anything". Doesn't this solidify it, folks? You have one of the Big 3 saying they've done nothing. Even Duff's interview talked about how real the "potential" for new music was. But this just makes it abundantly clear that new music isn't really a focus, and that (at best) they are in the very beginning stages of considering what to do in that regard.
I guess you can hold on to the "things can change" theory, but smart money's on no new music/change in setlist. Enjoy the shows.

"we haven't actually done anything" probably refers to them working together in the studio, as well as Slash personally not having recorded anything yet. As they previously have stated that Axl has showed them stuff that they are willing to work on, means it at least exists material that is considered for the record.
I'm not worried about the thing dragging on once Slash and Duff gets involved in the recording/writing process (at least that part of the process). It all depends on what dynamic they will have producing the record, will they have a shared responsibility when it comes to final decisions? If Axl alone shall inhabit the role of producing and taking the decisions, well... we all know it may be a little while.

We all know that it's already been a while...but the hope was that it was picking up speed with Slash and Duff back in the fold. Yes, I think Axl has a bunch of material in various stages of completion - he has said so himself - it just sounds like having Slash and Duff back hasn't accelerated the desire to release it, which is something I think people were expecting would happen.

I think people's expectations have been slightly ridiculous though. I've heard all sorts of crazy talk around 'oh they must be writing and recording on the road', and the notion that some new material is just going to appear after all this time because they're playing together. Anyone that has been a fan of this band long enough knows how it works by now; if anyone thinks new music is appearing out of thin air any time soon then they're being willfully naive. It'll take years - if it even happens at all. People need to remember that even if 'ideas' are floating around, getting them into shape, recorded, produced etc could take a long, long time. And even then they might never see the light of day.
The crunch point sounds as if it will come if work starts on the SMKC album. In Slash's timeframe that comes after/if no GNR material is getting worked on. If we reach that stage I think we have to consider the possibility that the ship might have sailed. Until that point, we'll see what happens, but there's no point speculating about "oh, maybe they'll do new songs at the next shows" etc as we've had it straight: nothing has happened yet.

Everyone has to understand at this point anything that happens in the GNR camp is rather spontaneous. Everyone assumed once this last tour ended that it would be a while before they did anything together again yet here we are in less then a years time they will be doing more shows. As for any new music at this point nothing will surprise me at this point I do think it will happen and for all those who doubt it I hope they stay quiet and say nothing when it does happen. Bunch of negative nancies.

While you're casting out homophobic insults, please feel free to tell us how the long process of writing, recording and producing new music can be "spontaneous"?
Or for that matter why a key member of the band telling us nothing is happening should be ignored, and why it's "negative" to take him at his word?

I'm not sure what that first bit refers to, exactly, but if it's "negative nancy"....you're off base. At least in terms of it's origin. I don't think you can assume anything other than it's accepted use, here.
The genesis of that idiom has nothing to do with anything homosexual. It's a play on "negative nellies", which was first floated back in the 60's by President Johnson. It gave rise to Debbie Downer, Negative Ned, and a whole host of other take offs, including negative Nancy/negative Nancies.
I understand that "nancy" has taken on a negative, homophobic, connotation (which is why I suspect that's what you're referring to, here) but...in the case of this idiom....it's not. Not in it's original form. It literally refers to someone (or someones) named Nancy. Who apparently were very negative. IDK, it was the 60's, man. But it's literally an innocent (if somewhat archaic) idiom.
Lets not build outrage when there isn't any to build, eh? More than enough stuff to ACTUALLY get pissed about without adding stuff that doesn't mean anything harmful or perjorative.

Probably a cultural thing then. It's absolutely a homophobic insult where I come from - people have lost careers as a result of using it in public! It's sort of similar to the 'F' word being used to describe gay people.
Yeah, let it fly then if it's not an insult in other countries - I thought it was being used as a cheap shot aimed at gay people, but perhaps not. No point in finding offense if there wasn't any intended.

Of course it's positive. Band's still together, and the shows will kick ass. Kind of sucks to hear that there's been no real activity regarding new music...I mean, it's been 3 years with this lineup, you'd think that something would have come out by now. But whatever. Things change, right?

Slash added that Guns N’ Roses will hit the road on a “small tour in October,” and that “there’s been so much talk about this Guns N’ Roses record, which we haven’t actually done anything with. So we’re gonna sort of focus on that.

A new Guns N' Roses album:
Slash has said that work on a new Guns N’ Roses album could start at the end of this year.
Fans haven’t heard music featuring Axl Rose, Duff McKagan and Slash together since the mid-1990s.
Asked if the band has started writing together yet, he said: “I wouldn’t say we’ve really sat down and had those sessions yet.”
He added: “The Conspirators are finishing up in mid-August and then Guns is going out in late September/October so in the Fall. But at the same time we’re focused on working towards this new record that everybody’s been asking about. So start focusing on that in earnest. And that’s it. I’m not thinking about anything else while that is going on.
“That’s really the main focus. By the time the Conspirators tour is done I will have written enough material for the next Conspirators record that whenever that break comes up with Guns N’ Roses we can go on to do that.
“We’ll just juggle all this stuff, schedules permitting.”
Asked what the new Guns N’ Roses album will be like, he said: “I have no f*****g idea, I really couldn’t tell you. It’s like anything else, you don’t know what it is until it’s done.”

We'll see come November, December, whether these plans materialize. Nothing proves they're taking time off to record new music like, well, taking time off and recording new music. Here's hoping that becomes a reality!

There are very few coincidences in what these guys say publicly. He's basically putting it out there that he has a contingency plan in place with SMKC should Axl or whoever else stonewall GNR on the new music front.

How much are they paying you again?
It's only logical for you to "stay positive" Cuz while your being "positive" the fans are getting robbed by supporting a tribute band.... yes you might as well call it that cuz these lazy fucks all they care about is sucking the money out of your pockets.
Yes go ahead and shell out wads of cash to go travel see the band play replayed classic tunes, while jarmo gets paid by the band to support the band, oh yes and to remain "positive"
Give me a fucking break

Hahahahahahahaha!
The usual bullshit by the usual crowd.
You've been whining about this for over a year!
Holy shit, how bitter you sound!
Glad I'm not you!
It's easy to be positive when your favorite band is active. Compared to not being active. Because you think them not being active is a great alternative because it must mean you're getting whatever you've dreamed up in your head.....

I think we need a little patience in regards to new music. I really believe next year will be a special year in that GNR will put out a new album. It's time to stay positive and enjoy the present and future of GNR.

Anyway
Glad they're playing more gigs
But this cannot be spun into anything positive - don't even try
I'll do it!
The band is gonna be active and playing together again.

Nobody is making anyone go and see the band play.
I've never read such a bitter post! So what if Jarmo works with the band? How does that impact on your life? Get on with yours.
Tell you something- if GNR offered me some work, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

We get to see the ugly side of fandom on this board unfortunately.
Who knows what the future will bring. Id absolutely love to see new material. We should know by now not to bet the house on it materializing though.
What happens happens and if they decide to go on tour without new material will be a let down but Ill still go see them play if they are at a venue near me and I will have a great time.
And life will go on.

I agree. How is this a *bad* thing, them still playing gigs?
"The perfect is the enemy of the good"
fits this fanbase like a glove. If all you are ever going to happy about is hearing that a new album is done and coming out tomorrow...well, I got bad news on that front. You aren't going to spend much time being happy.
But look at it this way, people. I'll give you an example : The Police. No one ever thought they reunite, because they all hated each other. But they did. And they did a huge reunion tour. And by they end of it...guess what? They all remembered why they hated each other and after the last show, they all agreed : NEVER AGAIN.
That is not what we have. The guy are still into it. It doesn't mean a new album is on the immediate horizon. But nor did these guys have that same experience The Police had where there will NEVER be anything again.
Hang in there, folks. A iron in the fire is always a good thing. Not a bad thing.

Some seem to believe in the theory that a band that's not on tour only has one other place they can be....
That's not necessarily true. Yes, it could be, but it also could just mean that the band is just taking time off.... Personally I don't buy the theory that if a band isn't on tour, they must be recording something. Bands will record new music when they wish, not whenever it fits their fans' schedules....

GNR writing is probably held off until after your touring is done. But have you ...
No, we're actually into it now, but at the same time everybody's still busy with a million other things. We haven't been able to sit down and completely focus on just the one thing, but we have been toying around with stuff.
Do you have material that you've already written and intend to present to the band, or does it kind of work more where everyone gets in a room and works it up from scratch?
I think there's no set rule for this. I don't think anything has been worked up to the point of ... well, let's put it this way. Ideas are coming in.
Got it. And such a great tour that you guys put on. From your own perspective, what was maybe the biggest surprise of having the GN'R tour do what it did?
The biggest surprise was the tour itself. I mean, everything else, it was a surprise and the icing on the cake. The biggest fucking thing about the "Not in This Lifetime" tour, was the fact that it even existed at all. You know? That was just the big shocker.

I may be naive, but I think they all have something to prove still. They just proved that they could do a major tour without a hitch(I believe this was extremely important to them), and I believe they want to show that they can produce another great album together. They are all very driven.

Talkin' Rock with Slash
"And then coming September October we turn on the Guns thing, and then that goes from there. After those Guns dates, the festival dates, we'll be working on the record, and doing [call drops]"
Call gets reconnected:
"When we finish the tour in the fall, then we will commence working on what will end up being the next Guns record."
The interviewer points out last time they spoke, Slash was kinda saying "never say never" regarding new GN'R material...
"Yeah, the thing is...We hadn’t really done anything yet. And I don’t like to say anything like "Oh yeah!". You know how people promote shit and lie through their teeth? So I just wanted to be honest about it, so there really was no telling what we were gonna do at that point. But at this point, I do know we are going to do this one, and we’ve already started working on stuff. So, there you go."
The interviewer asks about rumors that he was at Axl's house recently.
"Oh yeah. It’s funny, because there was a rumor I was over there, yeah. It was before I had even been there. So I was like Jesus Christ, that’s a pain in the ass and annoying. But I am excited about what we’ve got going on, and everything, so, it’s gonna be cool. It’s awesome."

Good one...At least now we know they will start doing something
As i said before, I hope they will write something new (i don't want to hear just a CD 2 reworked), just to see if they still can create that magic
.. Maybe just 2-3 straight hard rock songs and then the rest. And a 2016 live tour DVD , thanks

Rock Cellar: You recently made news. You said in an interview a month or so ago, there’s probably enough songs for a new Guns N’ Roses album, is that true?
Slash: No, you know, by the time it gets to the place where anybody’s read it, it’s morphed into something more than what I directly said. There is material that Axl’s been working on for a while. It could be enough for a record if we put it all together
The whole thing of Guns N’ Roses getting in the studio and getting this record done — with myself and with Duff (McKagan) and all that — it’s really just getting started. So it’s really hard to say.
Everybody’s got demos, and everybody’s got material, and this that and the other, for whatever it could be. It’s just a matter of us focusing on it.
So it’s really hard to answer questions on the next Guns thing.
https://www.rockcellarmagazine.com/slash-interview-guns-n-roses-future-guitars/
As for new GNR music, for which there is always an appetite, McKagan says it’s in the pipeline. “There’s a lot of songs bouncing around, I’ll tell you that. These 11 songs that are on this record were in a group of, I’m not even s—ing you, like 70 that I wrote. Axl has some really kick ass s–t that he had coming into it. We’ve never been at a loss for material. So the next step on that, as far as just everything Guns N’ Roses goes, I’ll just say we’re in a really f—ing positive place. It’ll come when it comes.”
