Most Epic Song Ever?
«

Manowar: Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy In Eight Parts.
28:38
This song, to me, is the definition of epic. 7-10 minutes isn't epic, it's just long.
It would be so funny hearing a radio station play an ultra long song like this! The song isn't actually divided into 8 parts, but I like it so much, I don't want to skip any parts of it. It's full of substance, not long just for the sake of being long. Songs like these dispell the notion that rock or metal only has 4 minute, 3 chord boringness.
Honorable mentions: Venom: At War With Satan. 19:56
Iced Earth: Dante's Inferno. 16:30
Burzum: Det Som En Gang Var (What Once Was). 14:21
Here's a request: I would love to hear an epic punk song. Something very political or inflammatory, over 10 minutes long. I know a punk song is considered very long after 5 minutes, but there has to be some punk band that has played a super long song. Lame punk bands whose songs all sound the same do not count.

Don't start me Barzum boy. You're being a silly def metaller. Y'see, when people say that about your music, you'll be like "It's actually quite good music" and they'd be like "It's just noise, it sounds all the same, grunt grunt grunt" and I'm like "If it wasn't for punk your music wouldn't have existed".
Green Day just did a song that lasts like 10 minutes. Inglorious by the Wildhearts. I think NoFX did a whole CD without stopping. Pff, punk isn't for hippy, touching, epic moments, you big girl. It's for men.

Burzum's (not Barzum!!) songs sound nothing like each other! And the "Green Day" and "it's for men" comments...
I was thinking more of S.O.D. and Napalm Death, and of course Motorhead. Punk and punk influenced songs tend to be very short, 'tis a fact. Green Day, ugh, don't start...
I'll check out NoFX sometime.

Don't check out NoFX, they're shit. They're a Green Day type band. I only mentioned Green Day because they're the only band I can think of that's done a song over 3 minutes.
Napalm Death have the shortest song of all time!
If you like the crossover stuff check out DRI - Crossover. Also Suicidal Tendencies early stuff and the mid 80's Agnostic Front stuff, Sick Of It All and you fucking need Blood For Blood (anything off the White Trash album) also Knuckledust are brutal.
I think you'd really like Stampin' Ground, they're Slayer-ish, with a dose of Metalcore. Try their song Officer Down.
But that's all pushing metal. Real punk shit like Zeke, The Dontcares, Assert, Homebrew, Crass, Dangerfields, DYS, Warzone. That's where it's at baby.
Again, don't think you're gonna find an epic punk band.

Master of Puppets is an epic one. Just because it's 'only' 8 minutes-long it doesn't mean it isn't epic.

If length equates epic, then..
Devil Doll - The Sacrilege of Fatal Arms
74:16
The Flower Kings - Garden of Dreams
59:57
Otherwise the most epic songs I can think of are Pain of Salvation's Beyond the Pale and Iter Impius. Metropolis pt. 1 by Dream Theater is also pretty epic. And of course our very own Estranged.

Well the original version of November Rain is said to be 25 minutes long. Wouldn't it be great if it would surface someday?

Yeah, the epic November Rain will probably be released as a "lost" song or something when Axl runs out of money. And I do think the term epic does depend on length. No 3 minute song would be called epic.
Also, it is true Thick as a Brick's album cover and the "newspaper" format took longer to make than the album itself?
It would be interesting to see Chinese Democracy have weird features like that.

My vote goes to "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres: Prelude/Apollo Bringer of Wisdom/Dion" By Rush...God even the title is epic! But no, its a great song off of their classic album, Hemispheres.
Honorable mention would have to go to Fatomas', Delirium Codia clocking in at a whopping 74 minutes! It's only one track and its not exactly music...but it certainly is epic...and scary.

Hey, I happen to like crossover, and I'm a huge Skrewdriver fan.
Anyway, what about non-epic long songs? I was thinking of some of the songs Opeth make. They're long for no reason; they really should be divided up into smaller songs. ...And Justice for All (title track), for example, is just too long. What so called epic songs are too long?

Umm.. no? Opeth songs are perfect the way they are, can you give me some examples of songs that should be shorter? Opeth have found an original way to create interesting progressive metal, and the fact that Mikael sings both clean vocals and death metal vocals is an effective way to add variety and dynamics into the music. I honestly can't imagine how you'd cut those masterful compositions.

Haha, good one. You have some serious problems and I reckon you need to see a consellor or something.
OK, he's downloaded some punk stuff off you before but from his post it looked to me like he didn't like punk. And i wasn't sticking up for the guy i was just saying that all your posts seem to have some form of abuse somewhere in them.
All Irish are retards?? I don't remember saying that, but you certainly don't do anyhting to dispell that myth. And the BNP forums, no thanks, 'cos if you knew me you would know I'm not racist so how about you shut the fuck up!

He brought up punk in his first post. he mentioned crossover and grind in his second post. It's not hard to grasp.

A track being say 20 minutes long doesn't neccessarily make it epic, although epic songs are obviously long but they also need to be good and have depth to them to make them epic. A good example is Master of Puppets which is about 8 and a half minutes long but is still more epic than most of the ones that are an hour long.
