Yeah, it's a "demo" because the response of critics and the general public wasn't exactly welcoming. That and the industrial GN'R album being rejected at the time by the label ... I wish Axl just stood by his work in this case. The general public is full of nimble-minded, fickle assholes to begin with. I wanted that industrial GN'R album more than anything, but I guess target demographics and record company politics would have never let that happen.

Say what you will about the production.. i think the record sounds way better than the live version.
Anyone else hear that trainwreck from Rock In Rio?

well, i wouldnt exactly call it a train wreck. i actually thought it was great to hear it live. i heard it live about 2 weeks before rio when i was at the House of Blues......its a killer song live....

the bootlegs don't do the live version justice.. i think the song was much better live.. i don't remember anything distorting axls voice.. like in the studio version.. my point bumping this thread was just that i think the song fits the other new songs we have heard.. but was quite out of place back in 99..

The boot doesn't do it justice at all.  It's a fast song and the drums can never sound as tight live as they do in the studio.  The loose sound probably leads people to think it's not a good live song. It's killer in the studio, but has an awesome energy live too.

guys.. c'mon. the drum loop starts early so the guitars are off for the whole intro making Axl miss the que on the first line. Then at the end he forgets the variation of the last chorus and tries to correct it but the song is over while he's singing "the waves already set in motion" then the last line is sung after the song is over and you get the awkward acapella "the only one in the game whos lost is you".
maybe not a train wreck but at least a 3 car pile up.. or at least a fender bender. ha

thats all i meant. if there are any other live versions besides Rock In Rio bootlegged it i'd love to hear em.

like i said..the boots aren't that good.. but i do remember thinking after the vegas show.. that i liked the song much better live.. it sounded more like a rock song.. and less industrial like the studio version.. it will be very interesting to see if there is revamped version of the song by the new band..

I like the RIR 3 version where the band stopped before the final line and Axl just belted out his solo of "the only one in the game who's lost is you".

F'n classic  Cool

that's not intentional, its clearly a mistake.

maybe if axl rehearsed with the band, that kind of thing wouldn't happen on a new song that they're trying to use to win over 100,000 skeptical fans ...

I agree it wasn't intentional but thats why I love the Rio 3 version of the song so much more. There was something about seeing Axl belt out that one last line to the 200,000 people... his voice sounded raw as fuck on that last line, reminded me of how he sounded in his AFD days.

Great song: both live and studio versions!

It's on my 'Chinese Democracy Demo Leaks' cd: Axl calls it a demo, so I figured I had to put it on there... beer

Was the movie out before the soundtrack ? I thought it came out the same week. Though maybe that was only in North America.
