this sounds dumb, but i could never get into Megadeth because i really don't like Dave Mustaine's vocals at all.

as someone else said, i much prefer James Hetfield's growl over Mustaine's. ...

Yeah it's true.. Dave's voice isn't "technically" very good. I love it though. Fits the music great and its raw.

If I wanted "good" vocals I'd listen to GNR.  ok

Rust in Peace alone destroys Metallica. That album is the pinnacle of tech-thrash. Dave's voice is "bad", but so is Axl's, Lawless's, and dare I say Cobain's. It fits the music.

i'm gonna have to give that a listen again.

call me crazy but i have listened to that album before and tried to get into it but i just kept comparing it to Metallica's early stuff and i couldn't get past the vocals. Early Metallica is my gold standard for Metal and i just felt that Metallica's early albums were better.... "Ride The Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" in particular)

i'll give it a try again tho ok

I can't believe this is actually being argued about and just because Megadeth play "louder, faster and harder than Metallica does, DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE THE BETTER BAND. I think history alone will tell you who the better band is.

Why not just say they are as good as each other.

Early metallica is pretty much all wrote by dave anyway so you wouldnt have some of the classic songs without him, and then the rest of the good songs were prbz made that way by cliff the legend.

Where metallica die musically (anything after and justice isnt up to standards) megadeth continues with peace sells, and 100% rust in peace. Then both bands aint too good after that, the only difference is, megadeth picked up and got good again on the system has failed, metallica produced st anger ok

Just dusted off my copy of Rust In Peace.

this album rocks i don't know what i was thinking before.

i still like James Hetfield's vocals better but this album definitely gives Metallica's early output a run for its money.

Lets just say its tied its really too close to compare IMO.

I agree, I said I like them better, cause I think both bands are great. Fastar and louder doesnt mean squad but I think IMO that megadeth has done a better job and has proved that he was the master mind of early Metallica.

Rust In Peace is better than any Metallica album. Every song is decent and they don't sound the same with an open-E string thrash like James does.

I really like Megadeth but, I'd take Metallica's music over Dave's any day of the week.

Its just amazing how Dave Mustaine alone wrote most of Megadeth's songs  if Dave Mustain had stayed on Metallica, metallica would have been ten times better than how it is nowadays and along their history...imo

Rust in peace, thats hard to beat...

Besides Mustaine's influence, Metallica also took a lot of ideas from early Exodus (listen to Die By His Hand, then Creeping Death. Wink) and Metal Church (extremely influential on just about all thrash bands). This was common in the thrash scene back then, since so many of the bands knew each other. I'd say about 1/3 of the material on Metallica's first 2 albums is linked to outside bands, and MoP is very overrated except for Orion and the title track. ...And Justice For All is really their shining moment.

Megadeth's first album (Killing is my Business and Business is Good) was extremely fast and heavy for it's time (1985!). It was a year before Reign in Blood, Obsessed By Cruelty, Pleasure to Kill, and tons of other very heavy thrash albums. It definitely had influence, much more so than Metallica's first albums. Peace Sells, But who's Buying, and So Far So Good So What are decent albums. Rust in Peace is just amazing. Put together, Metallica simply never came close to these albums.

By the way, I HIGHLY recommend the first Exodus demo with Kirk Hammett, which is floating around p2p these days. Believe it or not, it's early POWER metal, and it's really good.
