Yup to Civic (XL) center.

No fucking way you get away with leaving your wife home (or still in the hospital) alone with a newborn...assuming she's not still preggers and the baby comes late. Your first? Likely that date is early.....so you're at a show, and the missus goes into labor? Not ideal.

There are very few things I would tell you to miss a show for, provided you have the means and desire to go.  This would pretty much be one of them.

Not a lot of surprises with this band anymore, folks.  And that didn't start last week.

All I wanted out of this show was a great recording, in great quality, that I could put on my iPod.  I assume I will have that, so I am good to go.

As for the people with gripes, I'd argue that your expectations are ridiculous.  Can you sit here and stomp your feet about how they didn't play 'Pretty Tied Up' or 'Bad Obsession'?  I guess you could.  But I'd come right back and tell you that 'Pretty Tied Up' was last played in April 1992, and 'Bad Obsession' was last played in February 1993.

So if you truly thought there was a good chance of either of those creeping into the setlist last night, you are living in god damn fantasyland.

I also don't get the "false advertising" gripe...because they showed the AFD cross in Times Square, that meant the "original" 5 were coming back and they were going to play AFD from beginning to end?  Christ, Beta even said Izzy and Steven wouldn't be there.  I get that we all have our wish list (Axl still hasn't called me up on stage (yet)), but claiming the band misled you in some way is nonsense.

And, not to ruin the North American tour for anyone...but the setlist is going to be the same that was played last night (and for the past 18 months and change), IMO of course.  Try to deal with those emotions now.

You've got to admit those posters were pretty weird though right? I mean, why bother? All it did was raise people's expectations. If you're not celebrating Appetite's 30th, OK cool, just do a show- no problem. But putting them up? People are going to start speculating, naturally.

It's similar to the hype they let build up with the 'big announcement', which was more shows added. It makes no sense, and just fuels disappointment.

I do agree that those signs were a bit misleading in terms of fans expecting something, anything, different about this particular show.  That is, labeling the show a celebration of "AFD30".  Whether is was done innocently as a nod to the timing of the show, or done to shadily create media buzz remains to be seen.

That said, I don't get the torches and pitchforks about the setlist(s).  The new 2016 additions like Coma, DTJ and Slash & Duff putting their spins on the Chinese era tracks I think is, in the band's mind, them "shaking it up" and taking it to each new crowd/city.  They shouldn't have to take into account the keyboard warriors who are waiting in the wings after each show to moan about the setlist.

This show is now well into the top 10 grossing tours OF ALL TIME. They're obviously doing something very, very right and yes that includes the setlist.

I guess...maybe...but the signs for the Apollo show made no mention of AFD.  In fact, I think it said Not in this Lifetime.  The #AFD30 signs said nothing about the show at the Apollo.  I guess you could infer that the two signs are related.

Changing gears, anyone know what was played (acoustically) right before Patience?

Yep, that's the problem - everyone was left to infer. If the posters weren't for the concert, then what on earth were they for? I just can't get my head round them as a marketing decision. I've never known a band stick posters around celebrating an album's anniversary then no NOTHING regarding it. For starters- it's a waste of money!

Not really. It's still promotion for the upcoming 3 dates at MSG and other shows. Promo for the band and album itself.

What if she's getting a C section on the 20th? Does that change anything?

All 3 of ours were sections...2 scheduled.

She's probably coming home on the 22nd or 23rd.

So, yeah....it changes things.  Now it's No No No NO FUCKING WAY.  She's going to be home, likely, recovering from surgery, with a newborn.  Those first few days are NOT fun...and I know that I did a lot of the "heavy lifting" around the house for a bit while she recovered. Plus...narcotics potentially for the pain (hers, not yours, buddy)?

I may use that to my advantage. Tell her she could enter those hallowed halls. Her mother will be staying with us so she won't be unattended. Does that help my case at all?

A TINY bit?

But then...it's still her birthday.

And now you're facing wife, and mother in law, aggro.

If it was YOUR mother staying, it would help more.  But hers? IDK...what's your relationship with your mother in law like?

That's 5 days in the hospital typically, vs 3 for an uneventful natural birth.

And that is a battle you are going to lose.  It may make you feel like you are making some brave, powerful statement.

Yet at the end of the day, nothing you do matters.  They are selling out all over the world.  Yes, even despite your strenuous objections.

But keep fighting that good fight, man.  I'm sure victory is juuuuuuussssssssssst around the corner.

Outside of your discussion re: setlists with the other poster:

This is the point I've been making for awhile about all sorts of things (including new music).  Until the butts stop showing up in seats...they're not really going to be motivated to change anything.  Why? To please the hardcore? Right now, for every person ticked about [insert anything here], who decide to pass on a show, you have 3 more people vying for their ticket.

When attendance drops, they'll have to decide what to do next. New music? Shuffle up the set list? Go away and hide for a few years and do it all again, but with Adler/Izzy/Both? Or just ride off into the sunset (you have to admit...this would be a BALLER way to go out).

But now? They're making money like they're printing it.  They're filling stadiums like they can clone people. They're gonna keep doing what they're doing until that's not true anymore. Rightly so...there's obvious demand for it.

We get along. I'll have to feel things out. I'm not expecting to go, but I'll see how things progress and make a decision (or have one made for me) somewhere down the line in the next few months.

Yup, right along the side!

After taxes and fees, the pair was right around $600. So not cheap.  And I'm not even sure if my wife can go that day....will depend on work stuff which we won't know til much closer.  But I have faith I could find someone to be my +1 in a pinch!
